Can someone tell me how busy the Dis is around the 20th of February? We are getting a school break for a week (this is only the second year we are getting this). I assume it must be pretty crowded judging by the price of airline tickets.

Thanks everyone!

We have lived all over the place and I have never heard of schools getting a break in February??? That is so soon after the Christmas break, kinda weird to me. I would guess it would be a very slow time at the parks unless maybe around a holiday weekend. Maybe lots of yankees go down to Florida then to get away from the snow??? Go to touringplans.com and see what kind of crowds they predict. They check most of the major school calendars, ect....

So you have them too! Good to know the fun fun fun break times from New York are spreading to Michigan! I have no idea how busy they are but I had to post how excited I was to hear that our state isn't the only one wack in the head! (no offense of course!)

well i would think that schools would go down in febuary
i think this year i'm going to sing with my school, and i think its febuary when i go, but school vacations are different for everyone, otherwise i would think it would be slow because people went for christmas

Here in New England we are proud to have odd vacations. Only one week off at Christmas, and then President's Week, and then 3rd week in April (Patriots' day -- gotta love those Revolutionary War holidays)

Forgot to post about the crowds. I very much prefer Feb to Christmas and Easter crowds. The 3-day weekend will be busy, but go early, take breaks and we usually avoid the EMH parks and do well. Weather for us is always warm enough for swimming/water park at least one day.

Livonia, Michigan just jumped on the February week off bandwagon so we lost a week at Christmas, but we have all kind of single and double days off in the fall, then Thanksgiving, plus the Monday after, then 1 week at Christmas, then 2 days in January, then the week in February, week off for Easter, then another day off the next week, then Memorial Day.........wish I was a teacher this year!!!! Just kidding. Most of these days are in-service for them. We always go end of November, early December. This is our first time over Thanksgiving, but with everybody on the boards saying how dead it is in January, I was wondering about February. Thanks for everybodys info! :)

In the New Orleans area, some schools are off for a week b/c of Mardi Gras. I know many families that go to Disney World during this time. I went one year, and it was like the crowds in the summer.

The week that includes the 20th is President's Week. It is packed at WDW. You can view the hours for that week here on the DIS. The parks have much longer hours that week than all the rest of February.

Keep in mind the Super Bowl is in miami in February might increase the attendance

Daytona 500 is that week too!! :moped:

I am close to Buffalo and we get President's Week off. We are going the 2 weeks before and getting the heck out of FL on the 16th!! :thumbsup2

Went last Feb. and are going again Feb 17-24....we were able to get on everything we wanted by using fastpass to our advantage....the only problem I saw with February was the temps... Chilly at night and not real warm during the day...kids still loved the pools but not warm enough for me...crowds wer big but you can get AK and MGM done in one day with good planning.

In Chicago we get Presidents day and Lincolns Birthday off which usually causes a 3 day week, or a 4 day weekend. a popular traveling weekend.

I teach in the City of Buffalo, and we still do not get this midwinter break. :sad2: I also heard that some districts are thinking of changing it back. :confused3 For those of you who are wondering, I guess the reasoning was to shorten spring break because sometimes it can be so close to June exams and disrupts the high school kids' learning.

My grandchildren alway got President's Weekend off...(Friday and Monday) I would take everybody to Disney usually that Tuesday night before and we'd come back on President's Day...This year, they get the following weekend off...so I am bringing everybody late at night on President's Day..and staying until the following Monday...I guess it will be right in the middle of all the big crowds.... :sad2 Oh well...I'll have to rely on our dinner reservations and Fast Pass to get us through.... pirate:

The People's Republic of Ann Arbor has a week off in late Feb (sometimes into early Mar) every year, coinciding with UM's spring break. Most years, it is the week after P-Week, but every once in a while it is P-Week.

P-Week isn't so bad---just tour with common sense. Get there early, take breaks, and (as with any busy season) avoid as many EMH's as you can convince your family to skip. ;)

NYC public and Catholic schools are out that week. I love our break schedule. :cheer2:

Hey, I'm from Brooklyn too! I've also been thinking of going that week. I went in late August and it was sooo hot.

Just out of curiosity, do you teach at a BOCES school or anything close to that? I ask because my mom works at BVS (a BOCES type school) and she hasn't yet gotten that schedule change where as all other districts around our area (Williamsville) have had that change for 2 years (this will be our third). If you're anywhere close to there you'll probably be influenced within the next couple of years, if not much sooner.

Just for the record, I hate this break. I actually wrote a 7 page paper on why it should be changed back. Won't do any good but it got me an A! ;) :teeth:
