Trying to decide between going to DL Feb. 12-16 or June 8-12.

Cost is going to be about the same.

We live in Alaska and REALLY need a vacation, which is why I'm considering moving it up to February.

What are the big drawbacks? I realize some rides won't be open..... but this will be my 5 year old daughter's first trip to Disney, so it's going to be thrilling for her regardless.

I think my 10 yo son would rather go sooner than later (and miss a few days of school!)

Is it reasonable to assume crowds will be better in February? Significantly better?

Is the weather still kinda warm? (Keeping in mind, we live in ALASKA< so 60 is warm to us)

I would love any and all opinions. Thanks.

P.

My feeling is that crowds will be better for your February dates but not awful for your June ones. Weather is all over the place but most likely warmer in June and far less chance of rain. The advantage to waiting until June is that there should be less stuff closed. DCA will remain under heavy construction, but by June the Little Mermaid Ride should be open. At Disneyland, by June Star Tours should be open again too and any kind of disruptive construction such as the current Main Street repaving is less likely to be occurring. Oh yeah, Splash is currently in refurb and won't open back up until May. We'll go again before everything is open because we have fun regardless, and your family probably will too. But if it was me and we could only go once during this year, I would choose June.

All very good points.

I didn't realize main street was torn up right now. Anybody know when that is supposed to be done?

its disneyland just go anytime :yay:

went june last yr it was busy world of color just opened

went first week march last yr too pretty much walk on rides didnt even need fastpass.

going the first week of feb cant wait im hoping its like march pretty much walk on

Personally, especially if I lived in Alaska, I would pick Feb. I like the smaller crowds and can handle the shorter hours especially if I can still see shows or fireworks on the weekend. We live in Oregon and my boys where shorts all the time in California, even when the natives have parkas, mittens and hats on. Which seems to be below 70 ;) I say it will feel like summer to you now!

Our schools will be out by the time your June date rolls around and I know alot of the country will be out so it may be kind of crowded by the 8th.

Check out the schedule for Feb and see what you think.

With Little Mermaid and the new Star Tours opening in May the crowds will definitely be bigger in June - but then if you want those rides you don't have a choice ( I got to see some of the Little Mermaid characters - it's going to be great).
Feb traditionally is one of the least crowded months. It's in the 70s today too! The local schools go late into June though - so your dates might not be awful.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm no closer to a decision, but it's fun to have people to talk to about it!!

I still say feb june to far away and way more busy and prices are higher in june tickets/hotels.

I would say February. We have been in June a few times and both times it was hot and busy. I am trying my first trip in February. Either way have a wonderful trip!!

It all comes down to your priorities.

If you just need that Disney fix and need a right-away opportunity to get away, then, by all means, go in February. You and your family will most likely have a great time either time of year. Even though some attractions are closed, there is more than enough to do. Even though the hours may be shorter, there will be smaller crowds, so you will wait less to do the things you want to do. Either time of year, it seems likely the weather will be better than Alaska.

If you feel like that if you're going to go and spend the money, you want to get even "more" out of the time and money invested (and, yes, it will most likely be more expensive in June) and/or you have any concern that you will regret missing out on particular rides or activities, then you might do best to wait until June in the hopes of experiencing some of the new and currently closed attractions.

My vote is for JUNE! Park hours extend in June, so you will have until about 11pm for Disneyland itself during the week (Minus thursday nights for grad nights when the park closes at 9). Schools are not quite out yet for summer holidays at this time in June which is benificial crowd wise. Although like other Disboarders said, it maybe on the busier side simply because there are new rides, but if you went in June you can see them. You also have the option having no rain, gorgeous weather, and the use of pools. Also in June (Besides the major construction currently going on in DCA) there are generally very few refurbs going on, as Disney likes to have the majority of rides and attractions up and running for the peak season.

I live in Alaska too. I like to go when it's not crowded, so February for us. It's hard to deal with long lines, etc. when you live in such an uncrowded state most of the time (state and State if you know what I mean). We've gone during spring break and it was less enjoyable because it was so crowded. We've had rain in February and really nice weather in February.

I wouldn't do February this year simply because the main street paving is going on. For me, that totally kills the magic going in. Instead of seeing the nice view down main street and the castle, the view is obstructed by ugly green walls. They went up the last two days of our trip this past week and I really wished we'd left before the paving began because it really was ugly and I thought took away part of the magic of walking into Disneyland. Plus, in June the Little Mermaid ride should be open, which I bet your daughter would like.

This really clinches it for me. Now I need to find out when this paving will be done!!! (Because I really, really want to go in February).

I am going in February, from everything I am seeing they don't expect the crowds to be very high because they dropped the AP prices for all of the hotels at the end of the month.
