February Flyers - Please help

I just checked Delta's site for airfare during presidents weeks 2/18-2/26 & the price is $705 a ticket!!!!!!!

Is that "normal" for a non stop flight at that time? I had thought it would be higher than a non holiday time but holy cow!

Yep right now that's it.

I managed to score BOS to MCO on the 13th for $74 one way. Pretty good. Right now, we don't have a flight home. Out of the gate at midnight, Delta's fares for coming home the 24th, 25th and 26th were up at $299 for a one way I just told my parents we will be staying with them for the remainder of the winter, lol.

It's my hope that when AirTran, JetBlue, and SWA release their flights for those dates, the Delta and Song flights will come down some. If not, looks like we will be connecting through Atlanta to get home.......

No, I don't think it is normal.

I started watching President's week '04 fares from DTW in earnest mid-summer. I ended up buying flights on Spirit for around $200 pp RT direct in September, and the flights went down in price briefly (and with better times) mid-december.

NWA briefly matched that price sometime during the late fall, though not on such good times, but generally was between $50 and $100 higher per person for comparable flights.

Based on what I'm seeing this spring, summer, and early fall, I don't expect to get a deal quite that good again this year. NWA is running a southeast fare sale, and even with that none of their fares are under $225 except tuesday/wednesday-only roundtrips. So, for weekend travel in February '06 from DTW, I'll immediately buy anything under $225 this year, and I won't feel taken advantage of as long as I'm paying less than $275 or even $300 pp.

I have made many trips to Florida over Presidents week, prices will be high. I was able to get a 74 fare from JFK at the 331 day window. Keep checking every day and try to be flexable, maybe leave and return a day early, Jetblue is not going to have any bargains over this week, they tend to run a little higher the Song during holidays. If you keep checking you may find 1 flight where they will drop the price. If you see a good price jump on it fast or it may be gone.
