Does anyone know how popular it is to dress up in costume for the Pirate Party on deck? For both adults and kids? Does DCL provide any accessories or party favors for this?

PartyMama, it's very popular to dress up for Pirate Night. This is one of the best - if not the best - nights on the ship. Many dress in full pirate regalia for dinner and then go to the Party on deck. Both adults and kids dress up and some of the costumes are amazing. If you search youtube for Disney Cruise Pirate Night you'll find a few videos of the deck party.

Yes, you can purchase accessories and party favors on the ship. They actually set up a little "store" of all Pirate stuff right in front of the dining rooms that night so you can't enter the dining room without walking past all the swords, eye patches , costumes, etc. - after all it is Disney! They are the best at getting money out of you but they do such a great job I don't seem to mind. It's is good quality stuff but also pretty expensive on the ship. If you plan well, you go buy Pirate costumes and stuff the day after Holloween when it 50% off - we did that this year. You might still be able to find some at a local costume store. Also, pirate trinkets are a popular FE gift as well.

it's DW = Disney Wife and DH = Disney Husband - just another way to say it's an adult. If that doesn't work for someone in a Stateroom we could just write Adult. I also wrote DGM and DGF for Intlmanofmystery's Parents which should stand for Disney Grandmother and Disney Grandfather - not sure if I made that up or not! .

We would be up for a meet and greet as it is just our family of four so won't know anyone else.
My husband is a huge sports fan so we will probably want to take in the Super Bowl, any takers?

We will also be parked somewhere onboard watching the game. I'm just hoping our team makes it into the SuperBowl.

How many of you guys are pre-ordering the photo package, beer mug etc. or do you just wait till you get onboard to purchase these items. I was thinking about ordering the $89 photo package and the beer mug for my DH. Should I pre-order or should I wait till I'm onboard?

Plus, how hard is it to change a reservation at Palo once onboard? I couldn't get a table for 4 only a table for 2 and need to change this reservation if possible. We are traveling with another couple and would like to do dinner at Palo together. Is there usually a long line of people needing to change or make reservations? Should we go as soon as we get onboard? Our check-in time is between 11 - 11:30, so if we time it right we could be close to the front of the line. Any suggestions.

I also would like to add the swedish spa treatment for one of the sea days. Do you think I'll be able to get a time around 11am?

One more thing, should the guys wear sports jackets for formal night or for dinner at Palo or can they just wear a shirt and tie? They were thinking about leaving their jackets at home, one less thing to carry.

The guys can leave their jackets at home if they wish. On formal night you will see people very dressed up in evening type gowns and tuxes or suits, but also many men in shirt and tie with women in a nice dress or pants outfit. In Palo, many men did not even have a tie on when my husband and I had dinner there. He wore a shirt and tie and I wore nice slacks and blouse. We felt like we fit in just fine.

I have in my notes that Goofy's friend is an adult, but not sure whether man or woman. I also have noted that Meghan is an adult, but not sure of age. Hopefully they will respond here and let us know.

Wow! Thanks so much for all of the info! I have to say that this forum has been so helpful with everyone providing feedback and tips. Coincidentally, our family does all have pirate wear but didn't want to pack it all and go all out for nothing. We may have to pick up some more accessories on ship but I am very well aware that it could be pricey. We are also in Orlando the week prior so may shop around PLUS I do have some pirate trinkets for the exchange!

I looked at previous navigaters and it seems the football games are shown at Diversions. I am not sure where tat is on the ship. I am doing b2b cruises and the other group suggested a meet & greet after the mandatory ship safety at the promenade lounge. Aprox three pm on Saturday. Whatever you guys decide I would love to meet you.

I am stressed about formal night as well. I rarely wear suit, and all the suits I have I cannot fit in any of the suit pants anymore. I don't want to spend money on a new suit just for one dinner, but I don't want to miss out the fun neither. Don't know what to do.

thanks Cheryl, my DH will be glad to hear he doesn't have to bring a sports jacket and a shirt and tie is all he needs.

I told my DH this afternoon that we will need to put together an outfit for Pirate Night. He looked at me like I had 3 heads. Than he said whatever you want dear. We are celebrating our 25th Anniv. so he can't say "NO". I'm just hoping I'll be able to find something to wear for Pirate Night since he agreed to wear a pirate outfit.

Seriously, don't stress out! On our first cruise I think the biggest thing I worried about was our clothes, so I understand. I read several posts from people saying don't stress about it but I still did. And once I got through our cruise I understood why everyone said don't stress and this time around I haven't even thought about our clothes yet.

Some people will go all out to get dressed for formal night. I worried we would look out of place and people would give us weird looks. The only time you really notice how others are even dressed is when you are in the lobby for pictures and maybe you notice others at your table. In general, I think that there is so much to do and look at that no one really notices. I certainly did not feel out of place and there were many others dressed like me. My husband and I hate dressing up and don't really own any clothes for that purpose. I just wore a nice pair of black slacks and a blouse. My husband wore black dockers and a long sleeve shirt and tie. And that was for formal night and Palo. We ate in Palo on semi-formal night, but would have worn the same thing. Other nights, my husband wore khakis and a cuban style shirt (button up short sleeve that you don't tuck in). I even wore nice jeans a few times. Cruising is so relaxing and everyone is so friendly. As long as you don't show up to dinner in tank tops, shorts, or anything else Disney asks that you don't wear, you will be fine.

Congrats on your anniversary! We celebrated our 10th last year on the cruise. For pirate night, I ordered t-shirts with pirates on them (search pirate on choiceshirts.com) and my husband wore a bandana and I brought along foam swords. The pictures they took in the lobby of us with pirate mickey, minnie, captain jack, and one of just us were my favorites of the cruise.

I agree with above, I have been on cruises and have seen various degrees of 'formal' and I think it's important to be comfortable as well. I have never seen anyone be turned away for their attire, but just like any dining anywhere, you should try to adhere to the dress code. I know it is a little more challenging packing but the other option is not going to the dining room for formal night as there should be casual dining alternatives.

When is the sail away party? Is it also after the safety drill?

Yes. Usually right after the safety drill everyone heads up to get a spot for the sail away party. On our last cruise everyone met up in the promenade lounge before the safety drill. I can't remember what time and I actually didn't go due to a migraine. I wished I had made it, because everyone later said how nice it was to see people you "knew" through out the week on the ship.

I know someone else mentioned meeting up for the superbowl. I think that would be fun too. Right now I am leaning towards skipping dinner that night so I don't miss any of the game. My husband actually looked at me like I was a little crazy. Yes, I guess I am a bigger football fan than he is If it is our night in Animator's though then I'm not sure what I will do because I don't want to miss the show there.

We have opted out of the dining room when we have been too tired from a lazy sun soaked afternoon or late back from an excursion so that is what I meant as well. All of the food is fabulous everywhere on the ship so if you were not up to a formal night, you should be alright food wise
Actually, I missed out on our last formal night since I was not feeling that well and our head dining staff insisted on sending a custom dinner to me in our cabin. (not part of the room service menu)
They really went above and beyond typical hospitality, you are going to love it!

We are thinking a meet/greet would be good either Saturday around 3 or Sunday sometime for football, but will be good with whatever is decided. Just watched Tebow pull out another OT victory. Who will the final two teams be????

We are still unsure what to do in Cozumel. Any suggestions/thoughts?
Key West will be the trolley
Grand Cayman has us going out with Captain Marvin's
Castaway Cay is beach time and see how the day goes

Well after today, guess I won't be seeing our Steelers in the SuperBowl, oh well. Looks like some good teams are still in though. Either way, it should be fun.
