February 27, 2011 - 4 Night on the Disney Dream!

I am getting so excited...just listened to Lou's podcast about the ship...actually kinda relieved there won't be too much planned. I am hoping to explore that ship as much as possible!

I tried to listen to the Podcast last night, but dozed off! I would much rather READ a transcript than have to listen to the whole thing. I am having a hard time getting excited about this cruise. Good thing I'll have 6 days at WDW post-cruise to look forward to!

Since you've cruised before, it would be a bit of a dozer....basic questions answered and some discussion about some new Dream things, which was good. Since we haven't cruised since 2008, some of it was a bit of a refresher/reminder for me:goodvibes since I haven't been on the cruise boards that much lately. He and Beci did give one very strong opinion....DO NOT do the princess half the morning of. I really was strongly considering it. I got bit by the runDisney bug at the Wine and Dine:rolleyes1 and was willing to make a bunch of itinerary changes to make it work. But, I keep hearing "nays" on it and figured I better take the advice.

The only downer I have for the cruise...it is a 4 night. Not enough time on the ship or our stateroom!

I was still awake when I heard them discourage people from running the Princes half marathon Sunday morning! I had considered registering for it when it was originally going to be the first Sunday in March, but that ended when the date was changed.

I know the ship will be beautiful, and I may even use the pool and/or hot tub - which would be a first for me in 17 cruises! There's always room service and Mickey bars, too! :teeth:

Two-foxes...the podcast did the trick for me too! I am so excited about the cruise now!! We have only cruised once before so hearing the information and thinking through the days was fun!! It sounds like there are a lot of people signed up through the WDW Radio group...anyone heard how many so far?

luvmyredheadboys...your new little one is just precious!

Boosgram...we are staying at BCV post cruise too! Hubby and I are planning to eat at Victoria & Albert post cruise. Anyone done that before? Figured we should take the opportunity since we already ditched the kids and will have fancy clothes with from the cruise.

We just got back from our trip to WDW! Stayed in the treehouses, hubby ran the Wine and Dine 1/2, haunted carriage ride was a highlight for sure!! Already dreaming about a trip next fall....

Can anyone tell me about the podcast and where I can hear/read it? We're new to DCL and the DISboards and I'd like to check it out.

Thanks! :thumbsup2

Laura

I just listened to the Podcast again, and this time I stayed awake! For anyone wanting to know specific activities for the group cruise, there were few mentioned other than a probable door decorating contest, trivia, and scavenger hunt.

Are there are any folks from Connecticut on the 2/27/11 Dream 4day? DW and I are doing a b2b beginning with this cruise. We can't wait to see the new ship and especially the new dining rooms....

Morning everyone! I am finally back from the WBTA cruise and back into life I guess. Many of you know I did a spreadsheet on google docs for this cruise and we have had 16 people list their cabins - and 10 said yes to FE exchange. So I will go back and see if anyone else has volunteered to be in charge of the exchange. If not any volunteers? (if no - I will be glad to do it).

I am excited for this cruise - especially now that the shuttle is scheduled to take off at 3.38 pm on the 27th!

Oh the link to the google document to list your info is:

I would be jazzed if you could just keep track of it on the spreadsheet. I had said I would be happy to get it going, but, since you have it on a pretty spreadsheet and all:cool2:....Great, easy idea!!!

So, who is planning on trying Remy out? I say no, DH says yes. I would rather do Palo brunch, and see all the rotational dinner menus...plus Pirate night for the boys (not me, of course, not for me at all!) Plus, the price tag just seems a bit much to me. Not saying it wouldn't be good, but I am just not all that willing to throw another $75 each at a meal when I could be eating for free at the rotation restaurant.

If we do try it, it will be on the last night....but only time will tell! We are slowly creeping up to the reservation day mark:goodvibes

I agree with you. We aren't planning on trying Remy either. Since this is our first cruise, we want to experience the different dining rooms. As good as Palo looks, this time around we just may skip it.

How exciting being on the WBTA:cool1: We were on the 8 day reposition cruise from Dover to Barcelona. Way too short, but we had a great time. What part of TN are you from? My husbands family lives near Columbia. We do not visit near enough.

No Remy for us....I am going to try to schedule the Palo Brunch this trip. We enjoyed it a lot on the Europe cruise this summer. I really wanted to see all of new dining rooms on the Dream.

We've never done V&A...DH refuses to spend that kind of $$ on a meal. Me? I'd love to do it, but not w/o him. So I don't know what I'm missing and that's probably a good thing.

How did you like the treehouses? We thought about trying them in December for our family trip, but ended up w/Kidani House since their 2-bedroom setup has 3 bathrooms.

We decided that we'd just experience the rotational restaurants for this initial cruise. So, no Palo or Remy. Where did you get the $75 price? I'm shocked at how high it is!

First, my two cents on V&A...absolutely lovely! We dined there in 2007 when I was pregnant with DS. It was a true treat and splurge. I was really careful about what cheeses I ate and how meat was cooked because of the baby, and they were great about taking care of any concerns I had.

As for Remy, the $75 is posted on the DCL website. And, it does not include wine...which they will preselect for you before your arrival in a meeting with a sommelier. Lovely touch, but who has time for this on a 4 night??? And, it guarantees another $40 plus per person for wine, too. (That is good massage money!!!!) So, I will continue to remind DH that we should save it for a 7 nighter that we hope in take in October 2012 on the Fantasy, and enjoy the great, proven and much less expensive Palo brunch on this cruise!

Holy moly, you could put a down payment on your next cruise for that! Well, almost...

We did a Palo brunch on our last cruise; it was truly delicious. But I really can't see $75 a person upcharge for dinner. Sounds like V&A on a ship!

OK, I will keep updating this post so that we have the rooms we want to look at in one place.

How are we going to tour the rooms if we open ours to each other?... Someone has to stay there to let everyone in! Im thinking we should all get together and go from room to room as a group.

Say 3P to 4P ??

Rooms for tour:

1BR Suite - 12506
1BR Suite - 12000

we have an 8a - 6514 and would be glad to put it on the tour IF it is not done during 3-4 as the space shuttle is scheduled to go up at 3:34 or so and we want to see that (yes I know it can get changed again)

Yep, that is what I was thinking. We have one central meeting location and we move as a group from one room to the next. That way, we avoid anyone being forced to stay back to play "hostess" and missing the other rooms. It does mean the hall and room may be a bit crowded, but it is the best way for all to see!

I am game for any time that allows me to eat, be at muster and sailaway!
Drinking can be done along the way! :)

Ours is another 1 bedroom, totally different location though, so ours is open as well, if it is desired to be seen. 12000.

I want to see yours as that will be our home on the March 3 cruise and we are very excited about staying in that room!

I was just wondering what everyone has got done as far as planning goes?Where are you planning to stay pre-cruise/post-cruise? So far I've:
1. Booked our pre-cruise room at Country Inn and Suites ($158.00 hopefully I can get it for $50 later on at priceline)
2. Reserved our budget rental van from MCO-CC5 pre-cruise(20hr rental $85.00)
3. Reserved our post cruise van (2day rental for $133.00)

I used the Disboard code for these rentals and saved ALOT, Before the code the first rental was $116.00 and the second was $313.00 the code isY 937800
We plan on staying in cocoa beach for a couple days after the cruise and have narrowed it down to these hotels. International Palms Resort, Hampton Inn, LaQuinta Inn Oceanfront. It will probably be LaQuinta as it's the cheapest so far. Oh and I've got ALOT of door magnets done :cool1: thanks to the Disigners:)

We have not decided yet

I just found out that there will be a space shuttle launch on Feb 26!

We missed the last night launch this year only because they postponed the launch! Looks like we get another chance!!

We are flying into Orlando on Fed 25 and staying at the Country Inn and Suites.....

Now it has been moved to the 27th - at 3:34 (at least that is what it said yesterday)

I heard you could rent cars one way to and from Port Canaveral. Have you checked into that? It might be cheaper than the $60+ parking at the port.

We did this after the WBTA - not sure I will do it again unless we were staying off property. I prefer the ease of taking Disney transportation.

I will stay far, far away from Cape Canaveral on 2/26! I just hope the launch doesn't get rescheduled for Sunday if it can't go up Saturday. I don't want any traffic problems as I drop-off my rental car Sunday morning!

Right now it is scheduled for Sunday - so I will definately take the disney transport so I know I will not get caught up in any traffic!

Sorry I didn't even think to tell her name! My maiden name was Gray so we named her Graycie Rose (after my DH late grandmother) I love her name we picked it out 12yrs ago when I had my first son and never got to use it....until now! I can't believe shes ours but they let us leave the hospital with her so I guess we will keep her!
Here is a link I hope this works!!

You might have to copy and paste to your address bar.

Congrats! She is so cute!

Thanks for looking! We are so proud! I'm sure you can't tell:rolleyes1
My mom got her a Cinderella dress to wear to dinner on the cruise it is so cute! I need to start working on my boys clothes and swim trunks I have negleted them over the last few months.
Now on a 4 night cruise they don't have a formal night right? Mostly resort casual? We have always done tuxes for the boys on a 7 night so I want to make sure on the dinner clothes for this one.
Also does anyone have any tips on the best place for viewing the shuttle launch? My boys are real excited about that.
And one more question what would be a really fun cool place for dinner at Cocoa Beach? It is hard to believe we are less than 5 months now!

I have never done a short cruise and am not used to not taking formal wear. We are hoping to only bring one suitcase for the 4 of us :) (and one extra for FE things!)

The shuttle is now scheduled for while we are on board - so I would say deck 10 would be a good place!

Rats! I will have a rental car to return in Cape Canaveral, so we may not go via 528.
