February 2021 W.I.S.H. - Being your own Fabulous Self

Today was a rough one. It snowed again, and even though we were fully prepared to go remote, we had school, not even a delay. My SUV slid all over the place as the fresh snow was over layers of ice and packed down snow. By the grace of God, I made it to school safely. 22 teachers called out, so we were extremely short-handed.

To add to the fun, my para quit, and didn't even have the decency to tell me herself. I've gone out of my way to treat my assistants with dignity and respect...more like a co-teacher than a subordinate. In my early 20's, I was a special ed paraprofessional for a couple of years and I worked for two teachers. The first one treated me well, the second treated me like dirt. The second one drove me to get my teaching degree so that I would never be treated like that again. I vowed that when I became a teacher, I would go out of my way to treat my paraprofessional like my equal. I feel like she owed me a lot more than blowing off work, ignoring my texts and phone calls for days, then up and quitting with no notice. Not cool.

Tomorrow we are remote from home so the plows can clear our parking lots. They couldn't do that today?
I noticed a lot more turnover in para jobs my last few years. In the past it wasn’t unusual for people to stay 20+ years. It certainly sounds like it’s definitely a her problem and not you-hoping you get a good one next time.

We made it to Wednesday! What are you celebrating?

Health-wise I have tracked points for the last week.
Got out for a walk today-it was cold but felt good to be outside.

My husband and son in law (who is in education) both got their first vaccine-so we have all gotten our first doses, as well as other family that were eligible. It was getting a little stressful stalking websites for appointments for him. Luckily we are computer savvy but I feel terrible for seniors that aren’t or do not have family to help (like Piglet). Anyway, that’s my biggest Woohoo this week!

Woohoo - I keep getting outside for quicks walks in addition to my workouts. It’s usually a quick lap around the school after the kids leave. It’s a nice de-stressor.

Woohoo - my sons JV basketball team won their first game last night. Definitely needed to lift their morale.

Woohoo - I’ve been sticking to my meal plan with a few small treats when I need a little pick-me-up. And I’m seeing a slight decrease on the scale. Down a total of 9 this year...with about 21 more pounds to go for the year. Down 1 pound this month with 4 more to go.

WooHoo -- This month so far I have stuck to 60 minutes on the treadmill. More on someday. The only day I missed was Sunday but I think I needed a break. I have also been able to up my speed now to 2.7. I am hoping to at least be able to go part of the time at 3.0 by the end of the week.

WooHoo -- My mom got her first vaccine last Thursday. She is going to feel much better mentally ones she has both and is fully vaccinated.

WooHoo -- My sister seems to be doing really good. She still hasn't said anything to me other then on facebook she mentioned that she is moving. I have talked to mom and I am still getting the information from her. My nephew was having a hard time with going to the treatment facility and my sister had my my other nephew (his older brother) talk to him. They are really close. Now C, who is 21, can be not very mature at times and every thing has to be his way so when I heard how he talked to T and explained things to him I was very proud. He really was able to get T to understand what was going on and that right now he needs to focus on himself. C is like my child too. He was the born in the family and my sister was a single mom who still liked to party. I watched him all the time as well has he went to the daycare I worked at. It was almost like 50/50 with my sister and I and his dad when he wanted him but he lived 2 hours away. It was like this until I had DS so C was about 6. It just really shocked how mature he was with T.

Woohoo...

... we're going to get some snow! Forecast says highly likely for snow showers off-and-on from midday Thursday thru Saturday. I need to make a run to the grocery store and pharmacy today, then I'm all set to stay home and enjoy it.
... we're getting $500 stipends to spend at Office Depot for home-office stuff. There's an approved list of stuff to choose from, which I haven't seen yet. I need a second monitor, a printer and a better chair so hopefully those will all be available. And we heard other news yesterday that indicates there's a long term commitment to work-from-home, even tho nothing official is out past July, so I'm thinking I'll get serious about totally strippng down this room, getting rid of most of the crafting stuff, painting and setting it up as a proper office...not just a desk shoved in the corner.
... I've been sleeping really well, several nights in a row now.

I just thought of another woohoo. Oneanne reminded me. We have not gotten the cold were supposed. This week we were supposed to have wind chills in the -15 range. We haven't even gotten to 0 yet. though they do keep pushing it back so we will see if we get it. A not so woohoo is that we are supposed to get snow like every day for the next week. Not a lot at one time. An inch here and there. We have really had winter for about 2 to 3 weeks and I am over it. I am ready for 50 and 60 degree temps again.

Only 6 weeks into the new year and 9lbs! That’s wonderful!
Yay for the basketball team-my daughter’s softball team won only 2 games one year-that was tough. Probably more on the parents, to be honest!

It’s so nice when family members pull together-especially siblings.
And I can attest to your mom’s feelings of relief after getting her vaccine. You feel like things are finally going to be ok. I am happy for her and for you.

WOO HOO! I am working remotely from home! Yesterday would have been better, but today is awesome. It is an extra long day...I won't be done until 5:00pm. I'm so happy to be doing it from home.
Yay! But working til 5? Again, people who think teaching from home is easy are just wrong. Are you getting more snow? Like Piglet they are not predicting much here tonight, but several days of a couple inches. I am done with winter.

You are allowed to enjoy your snow since it’s a rare event! What a nice stipend to improve your home office-that should be fun to spend. I used to love getting unexpected money for library furniture-money spent on comfortable chairs for our magazine area was money well spent. And I went crazy one year and bought a couple bean bag chairs-they were a big hit!

Ok,Oh my... Not a great weeks start. We got a school call Sunday that my 2nd daughter was exposed to covid. Confirmed Monday. Today— not feeling awesome myself. My K little guy is missing all of the Valentines excitement... I know that’s the least of concerns but it bums me out still. Girls are remote & my husband is teleworking. I’m hoping we work thru this ok.

My Why... my kiddos & My own drive for being my best.

Discipline over motivation definitely ❤️

Woo hoo for Instacart & Virtual Dr Visits 🤦‍♀️ Fam of 6 quarantine time. These are lifesavers!

Yah, I figured I'd be the only one woohoo-y about snow. It has started to fall up north of the city but where I live it is clear blue skies and I have the front window open for fresh air.

Well today is not ending great. I jumped on Facebook to do something other then work for a moment and the first post was from my sister saying there has been a bomb threat at the school my mom teaches at and my niece (my sisters youngest) goes too. Everyone got out ok. I will get more info when I talk to my mom tonight. It sounds like it was pretty chaotic as they told the kids that the fire alarms were not working and they needed to hurry to get out. They went across the street to an event ballroom (they have weddings here) and stayed until the busses got their to take them all home. Now I don't want to get back to work and have a meeting at 4 with a donor.

Yikes! That is not ok. Hopefully a hoax... not that this would make any of it better!

My daughter got a positive Mon. I hate having her all cooped up. She had no symptoms-just the heads up from a friend she ate with. I’ll take other kiddos & myself for tests Friday to see if we are clear to return next wk. 🤞🤞Such a mess. Just bc one teacher didn’t feel covid was really a concern. Love teachers guys but anyone at school sick & unmasking at their desk in class w students 😡 Not a good apple.
