February 2021 W.I.S.H. - Being your own Fabulous Self

Yah, I figured I'd be the only one woohoo-y about snow. It has started to fall up north of the city but where I live it is clear blue skies and I have the front window open for fresh air.

You can count me in as well. We had a bit more snow here, but not enough to close anything, and it was just gorgeous on the trees this morning!

My other Wednesday Woohoos are that I'm (so far) staying on top of my exercise minutes (even a little ahead, so I will have skip days when I need them) and a new "This Is Us" magically appeared in my DVR this morning!

Yikes! That is not ok. Hopefully a hoax... not that this would make any of it better!

My daughter got a positive Mon. I hate having her all cooped up. She had no symptoms-just the heads up from a friend she ate with. I’ll take other kiddos & myself for tests Friday to see if we are clear to return next wk. 🤞🤞Such a mess. Just bc one teacher didn’t feel covid was really a concern. Love teachers guys but anyone at school sick & unmasking at their desk in class w students 😡 Not a good apple.
Outrageous behavior of a teacher.

These tiny, happy things make me happy and grateful-

My grandson’s laugh
My daughter’s family’s new puppy
The new books I picked up at the library drive through today
My clothes feel just a little looser
Saw a cardinal today on a snowy tree branch

Unexpected virtual day today initially had me in tears at 5:45am. But I shook it off and went right into planning for Plan B today. We knew we would be virtual tomorrow, so my prepped bags for the kids are at school and unable to be handed out. So now it’s Leo making Plan B for tomorrow. But focused on today first. Started making plans and activities, emailing teachers about small groups, etc. then I stopped myself and went downstairs to do my workout and daily devotionals. Oh boy, did that help!!!! Ladies, I’m telling you. It’s so important to make time for yourself! It really helped e to put things into perspective and refocus on the important things.

Small things I’m grateful for today:
-the beauty of the snow
-technology
-my students parents who are (for the most part) extremely cooperative and patient
-the fact that we don’t have to make up this day later in the year
-the warmth of my house
-my morning shake
-my kids excitement about a virtual day
-my quiet mornings
-extra time today to read my book!
-pictures and videos of my 2-yr-old nephew
-continuing to get outside for a quick 10-15 minute walk

Oh no. I hope she continues to do well. A few of my daughters teachers were not wearing masks during class the first semester. Both kids have been fully virtual (our choice). We thought about sending the second semester but with seeing the teachers on the live stream with kids in their rooms (they are teaching both in person and remote at the same time) we decided to keep them home. It was so aggravating.

The little things I am thankful for.

1. Taylor Swift concerts in the car with DD right now. When ever we go any where when it is just the two of us she plays only Taylor Swift and we both rock out to it. I am going to miss this one day.

2. Finding a book I will read. I don't like reading. I am slow at it. So when I find one I like I feel like I am a bit more normal. I see so many people reading tons of books a year, including my DH and I wish I liked it better. I started reading the Bridgerton series. I think the first book I have read in a few years. I love it. It takes me almost an hour to read one chapter so I only read one a night. There are 8 books so I am hoping I like them all.

3. Talking history with DS. He loves history and so do I. I got lucky that when I was watching the Last Czar it coincided with what DS was learning in school. We had long talks about this.

4. Grocery shopping with DH. This is the only time we get to spend alone right now. We were just starting to leave the kids home alone for longer periods of time and with us further away when the pandemic started. I can't wait to get back to this

Little things...

... that snow is coming and with work-from-home there's no stress, just joy.

... that we've had so much sunshine this winter. I have my desk right by the window and feel like I am able to enjoy it more.
... kitten cuddles. Each evening they both need cuddle time where I hold them.
... my little house.

The days that I get to wake up naturally without an alarm or a text or phone call.
My morning cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee.
The funny things that kindergartners say, my laugh out loud response, and the sound of their hysterical giggles when I make them laugh.

When my DD spends time with me.

I agree! Not ok!!! She’s doing great- just bored out of her mind! And not enough snack freedom 😆 I wish I felt better keeping mine out... we’ve homeschooled before & honestly I’d be great with them home but we started having social anxiety issues creep in. So many variables with all of this 😞 We needed them to work back in. Eldest went in November & our youngest just went back in mid Jan. He has not spoken a word in class yet 😳 Total chatter box with family. The cards each kid deals us as parents... never ending learning experience!

When I signed off from work today I was so excited it was Friday... until it wasn’t. Dang it. Going with a theme I’ll do my Friday post early.

We got about an inch of snow out of this first go-round. Tomorrow is the big show, with possibly up to 6 inches.

I remembered I had some salt and essential oils scrub so I took an evening shower and oiled up my dry and itchy skin... feeling much better now.

I can’t call this week a good success, but will keep trying.

So very thankful that the twins' brothers' caretakers are willing to drive in the predicted snow over the mountain to take the children to mom's. They really have been missing her and we really need them to be gone! I cannot wait for this long weekend!

Our snow hasn't started, but according to my weather app it should in a couple more hours. My parents who live two hours north of us say it has been snowing all day.

Thankful I got the laundry done and that I checked Twin2's bag he packed. That child would not have had any pants!!

This coming week used to be February vacation. One year, we took the Amtrak train from Penn Station in NYC to Orlando and spent a week in WDW. 24 hours coach on a train was an interesting time...the characters you encounter on board (and I don't mean Disney characters...more like prostitutes) especially in Florida where it makes local stops all night long...sleep was fleeting, and uncomfortable since we didn't have the money for a sleeping cabin. It was fun eating in the dining car though. Anyway, we had a great Disney vacation that year.

No more February vacation getaways. In recent years, they started taking days away, which is kind of dumb since we tend to have snow days during this time of year. For a while we got Thursday, Friday, and Presidents Day. This year, it is Friday and Presidents Day off. We have snow all weekend with more coming on Tuesday, so who knows.

For now, I'm very happy to be off today for my mini vacation. I have some things to do like renewing my teaching certificate, but I'm going to do that tomorrow or Sunday. Today will just be a break for me to put all thoughts of school and the pandemic out of my mind.

Our kids have handled it really well. DS just goes with the flow but right now I can't even get him to go to the store. He tells us that there are too many people. But he has always had issues with turning in homework so now that he is home I can make sure he hit the submit button. DD I am very worried what next year will bring. Being home has been great on her. She has anxiety that I feel interferes with school. She gets caught in the drama and spends lots of time with the nurse for something hurting. This is one of the reasons we kept her home. We fears she would only be in school for a day or two before being quarantined for 2. This year she has not had that and her grades are so much better. Not that they were bad before but now she is getting straight A's. Going back to school with lots of kids is going to be rough on her. We were finally getting better this time last year. I feel we will be starting over again and this time while in High school. We are hoping to get both kids in summer school to take the health class they need to graduate. This will get them both slowly back in the classroom and a chance to get a feel for the layout of the new high school that neither have see the inside to yet. It just opened this past August and is huge. They will also both play soccer so that should help to easy them in as well.

There are many days I feel like I have failed the kids by keeping them home. It has not been easy and I know others have a circumstances. This parenting is so hard sometimes. DD always has me on my toes.

This is so interesting to me. Same with the fall break some have. In my area in Ohio we only have long breaks at Christmas (usually 2 weeks) and a week at Easter. Thanksgiving they get 3 days. Other then that it is a day here and a day there. We have had a few more day this year because of COVID though. The kids are off today for the teachers to get their first shot and on March 5th for their second. But normally they only have Presidents day off. Sometimes they throw a teacher work day or in-service day to make for a 4 day weekend (Friday and Monday off). It has been like this since I was a kids. I have never heard of these long breaks until I started to follow more Disney Parks stuff.
