I'm from South Carolina, so hot, humid weather is my normal thing.
We've booked a 3-day DCL trip on Feb 9th for my son's birthday. I'm a little concerned that it's going to be a little too chilly.

Has anyone done Castaway Cay in early February?

We have been to CC in mid/late Feb once when it was a beautiful perfectly warm day. The next year we were supposed to go back and didn't make it. We went to Nassau instead and froze. We also froze on the sea day before. From our experience I'd say it can go either way. Good luck!

We were there in February this year and it turned out to be a very sunny and warm day. We had a wonderful time. But as others have said, the weather can be unpredictable.

I've done it in December and January and it was chilly both times - but it's a mixed bag I would say from Nov-Feb as far as air temperature goes. Water will probably be cool.

Sailed 20-27 Feb this year back to back on the Dream. It was cold enough I didn't want to spend tons of time in the water at Castaway. But it was generally mild, though not normal. Too windy and cold for satellite falls.

I live in Minnesota so my idea of cold might be a little different, but at home I generally won't go into the water for anything less than 85+ degrees. I visited CC the last week of January and was really disappointed that the forecasted air temp was only 67. However, after doing the 5k I couldn't wait to get into the water, and I was completely comfortable on the beach all day in just a swim suit (67 is usually long-sleeve, long pants weather for me). We had just had an 85+ degree day in San Juan so it's not like I had forgotten what warm weather felt like. I didn't spend a long time actually in the water, but it wasn't a total bust like I expected for 67 degrees. It was still sunny, so it was perfect weather to lay on the beach and play in the sand. If to hadn't been sunny I think it would have been disappointing. I think 67 is below average for that time of year iirc. Not sure about the sun averages.

We went twice at the end of January. The weather was perfect the first time - warm and sunny. The next year it was windy, cloudy, and quite chilly. Both times, though, the water was freezing!

This is perfect information, thank you so much!
We went to Disney during Spring Break of 2015 and it was super hot, like 90's almost every day. Then last year during Spring Break it wasn't nearly as hot.
So I'm guessing it could be just hit or miss, but it sounds that generally it won't be uncomfortably cold on land, but we may not be swimming as much as we usually do during cruises during the summer months.

For the price, I just couldn't pass it up, plus it leaves on my son's birthday so we thought this would be a super fun birthday to spend it on a cruise!

Agree with @CamColt that its a bit unpredictable. Our experience has been pretty much the same as hers.

Same here. We've been in Jan, Feb and Mar, and the water temp ranged from just cold to freezing. On our first visit it was cold and windy all day, and very few people went into the water. I snorkeled with the rays until a CM asked to get out as I was turning blue from the cold water. Last March it was sunny and hot, but the water was still cold (though I still went snorkeling at SB).

If you check a map you'll see that CC is just about even with Ft Lauderdale n/s wise. So in general you can draw comparisons for temp's ..... and water wise, the Gulf Stream draws warm waters close to shore in FL ... not as much over in the CC area of the Bahamas but CC's semi enclosed shallow swim area (family beach) helps a bit.

I know plenty of people who go in the water here in Canaveral and points south on a warm day in Feb ... we call them tourists ....

We've gone many times in February. My personal experience has been just perfectly warm weather with a little chilly water. We still get in and swim/snorkel but it definitely feels colder than say June... ;)

As Capt_BJ said the bahamas are just east of Ft. Lauderdale. Freeport is less than 100 miles from the coast of FL. I live 20 minutes north of Ft. Lauderdale. You never know what the weather is going to be here. Once day it's a high of 60 with lows dipping into the 40's or it's 90.

We will be there mid February as well. Hoping for warm weather. It was beautiful when we went in January a few years ago.

I live in Charleston, SC and would not plan much for Castaway Cay in February. However, I went to Belize and was lucky enough to catch that trip on their coldest day EVER, it was like 40 degrees and FREEZING.

I'm lucky that way.

Thanks Cpt_BJ I'll definitely keep my eye on Ft Lauderdale's weather then. This is all such good info. Being a "southern girl" myself, I just don't see us in the water much on this trip but with it being such a short cruise anyway, I think we'll find ways to keep busy for sure.

Birdie dog, another South Carolinian! I really wish Disney would establish a port in Charleston :)

A transplanted Southern girl here...We've been in December twice and it was chilly once and nice the other time. Both times, we enjoyed the island. What a paradise!

Both of my cruises we Feb. CC wasn't too bad. I usually start the day in a light sweater. Then the sun comes up and it can get quite warm. Then I'm back on the ship when it cools down.

I think that is a big aspect: What you are used to. I was raised in Jersey and now live in New England. So for me, I bet it would feel plenty warm at CC in February, but probably not by Carolina standards!

Still, luck has something to do with it, and you'll have plenty to do even if swimming in the ocean isn't of them.

Have fun!

we bought our kids shortie wetsuits on ebay for $25. we decided if we were spending all that $ on a cruise, we wanted to be able to swim and have fun, even if it was a bit chilly.
