February 19, 2011 Magic Western - Presidents of the Caribbean!

we were assigned 2nd seating- didnt have a choice.....last time we had 1st seating and Missed almost all of the shows because after we ate, the kids went to bed....I am actually Happy to have 2nd seating this time....we will get to see all the shows.....

my hubby took madison last time to the tea party, they both said it was corny lol.....but who knows!

we are going to try to do alot of a different things this time and *TRY* to stay up late and Really enjoy it! we shall see.....
The last time we went on the Disney Cruise my then 9 year old stayed at the kid's club until it closed (the younger kids stayed with their grandparents so the "younger adults" could stay out late!) So my guess is that with your kids being 9 and 11 you'll be able to stay out until the kid's clubs close... at least your 11 year old will if my 11 year old gets to him!!

I booked the Boatswain Beach and Turtle farm myself. It was $150 for 3 Adults and 2 kids. We do have to find our own way there. But, it's alot more $$$ for the cruise excursion. We are winging it at Key West. I was thinking about the horse back riding for Cozumel ($35 for a two hour ride with a 20 minute stop in the middle to look at the ruins), but I'm afraid of the weather and a 2 hour ride might make be painful later <3

The last time we went the kids were only 4&6 Hence the early bed times.....they got up early each morning, so by the time dinner was over, they were DONE....i went to 1 show alone but the kids missed most of them....Yes, now that they are 9 1/2 & 11 1/2 i am hoping for better results...My 11 year old sleeps very little now anyway..its the 9 year old that still normally HAS to bed by 7pm..bUT since we are on vacation i am hoping she will be ok to stay up a bit later each night ( both my kids get unpleasant after nights of little sleep but again i am going to go in with a HAPPY CRUISE MIND!)

I am sure my son would be very happy to meet someone his age!

Is there an extra cost for the Mad Hatter Tea Party?

Also, is there a size limit on luggage? We were thinking of all 4 cramming into a huge suitcase, or is it better to have 4 smaller suitcases?

Can't wait!!

We have an 11 year old in the cabin next to us, his name is Vic. I'll try to get them to come to the sail away at 3pm.

Wow! I am impressed and probably overpacked :confused3 There are 3 of us and we have 2 large suitcases and 1 medium sized suitcase. It is our first cruise so I know I am probably overdoing it but I just don't know what to leave out. Hopefully I'll do better on our 2nd cruise that I hope to talk DH into :)

OUr first Disney cruise as well, can't get the kids to stop packing stuff- they want to bring their stuffed animals, lap desks, winter jammies, summer jammies, every bathing suit they own, etc...

I told my husband, Friday morning I plan to "repack" the girls bags just a bit after they are at school, so they'll never know, until we get there that some things are missing...

More questions....

Is a suit and tie okay for DH on formal night? Or is a tux necessary?

Are dress pants and dressy shirt okay for ladies on semi- formal night or do I need a dress? I have one for formal night...just didn't know for semi formal..

Pirates night...do most adults dress up? Or just kids? Or a mixture? We have costumes and will bring if other adults dress up as well.

My DH is wearing sportscoat and dress shirt (no tie) for formal night.

I am packing a sun dress for semi formal night but it is not fancy so I would say the equivalent of fancy pants and shirt.

From what I have read, Pirate Night is a mixed bag. Some adults go all in and costumed in pirate gear but most don't. My DS has a pirate costume he is going to wear and I brought pirate Mickey ears for me and a bandanna for DH.

Boatswain's has a shuttle at the port to take cruisers to the marine park & it's free! There are only 2 times in the morning & 2 in the afternoon though.

We are bringing costumes for pirate night. Dh keeps saying we're going to be the only ones in costumes.

DH will be wearing a tux, but it's b/c he owns one & wants to wear it.

Wow, you all can fit in one bag? Our family of 4 have 2 large suitcases, 2 small, & a garment bag. That's not including the carry ons either.

Tell DH we have costumes too!! No, it doesn't really fit well in one bag, so we'll probably do more. Just wanted to be sure that wasn't a size limit on the large suitcase.

Great news about NOT having to have a tux. My DH will be happy.

Connie, no charge for the Mad Hatter Tea Party. Just go to Guest Relations and ask for them.

We have pirate tshirts for my daughter and me, and my DGD has a pirate dress she got when she did the pirate makeover at WDW. We are not going to get way dressed up...sun dresses for dinner mostly, and a nicer one for the formal night.

Thought of another tip for you...every night in the atrium lobby, they do portraits. A nice one to do is the white background. After we knew about it, the next cruise we planned to all wear black one night and it came out great. I used it for my Christmas card that year, as it was the whole family. They have other ones too, like the ship at night. Leave some time each evening to see if you want to meet the characters or do the portraits. The characters dress differently during the cruise...sailing clothes on day one, pirate clothes on pirate night, formal clothes on formal night.

Thanks for the tip about the portraits. I didn't know they have it set up every night. I thought it was just for pirate night & formal night. I am guessing the lines are long on those nights. I would love to get a family portrait though. When is the best time to go; b4 dinner or after dinner b4 the show? (We are 1st seating)

Rachel- You are bringing more luggage than I am??? There's so much other stuff to bring, I don't know how to minimize it all.

You guys don't want to know how much i packed then........:rolleyes1

Thought I was doing so good, but now 2 large suitcases and 2 small ones...it keeps growing...
both girls have on their pirate costumes right now and won't take them off!

I understand we have 2 options for lunch on Saturday. For those of you who have sailed before with Disney which do you prefer? The buffet or the restaurant?

Last year we did the buffet which had a great selection of food. There is something for everyone. My kids LOVED the buffet, especially the desserts!

Question--nothing like waiting until the last minute (booked this trip 1 yr ago), and I'm now looking at the excursions. My kids want to do the dolphin encounter..since their's one on Cayman Island and Cozumel, I'm not sure which one to choose. Does anyone have any information on this, or researched this?
I see that the spa and Palo are all booked...I'm hoping I can get a reservation when we arrive.

Gwen

Looks like we will all be getting out of NY- and the East Coast!!! We are leaving Friday and its supposed to be in the 60s!! - but back to the 30s for the weekend( who cares we'll be on the boat!)- I was so worried there would be a massive snow storm this week!
Almost done packing... We have 2 big suitcases, kids each have a big duffle bag plus carry-ons-- can you tell it's our first cruise??!! I know I am packing too much but I cant help it. I am not sure what the temps will be from day to night......

Like others mentioned- kids think all the stuffed animals are coming with us... Told them to pack one or 2 special ones- no doubt they will want one from the ship gift shops!!

Quick question-- what should I dress my 2 1/2 yr old DS for dinner? Nice shorts are a no- no right? or is that just no shorts for semi- formal and formal nights? Also what is the attire for all of us for the prince/ princess night? Thanks!!!
