Wanting to take a short trip in February. There aren’t many rooms available. Everything is expensive. The crowd calendar shows lower crowds. Is there something going on?

And probably each 3rd party site you look at will have a different estimate for crowds. None of them have any special insight about future attendance, so they will likely be all over the map.

Feb 3 - 6 is also really difficult to book right now. WE have the AKL pool view booked and I would love to change it, but Nothing else is available that I would consider an affordable upgrade. I am really concerned about the renovations going on at AKL at the moment.

We will be there Feb 8-13. When I checked a couple days ago, there was still availability at POR (I think around $240/night?) and the cabins at Fort Wilderness ($306/night)
Are they gone now?

Actually, I just checked and Pop Century is available for your dates at $134/night!

Major national Dance and Cheer competitions happening at ESPN during the first and second weekends of February. They tend to fill up the value resorts, but you should see some availability at the "super values" (POP and AoA) and moderates. Now...whether you're willing to pay the going rate for those rooms is another story. They are AVAILABLE but unlikely to be DISCOUNTED because of the events going on. I suspect that the Superbowl in Miami the first weekend is also going to drive some business to Disney (people making a long vacation out of it and staying through the week) which will make it less likely that they need to offer discounted rooms.
