Feb 28, 2013 Dream...Anybody Else Going?

I'm replying here so we can keep the FE thread about the FE...but my heart dropped when I read it was cool in Nassau...boo hiss!!! This has made me sad. I'm praying, praying, praying for a beautiful, WARM day when we are there on March 1st!!! I don't do cool or cold...LOL!

Glad you had fun. Yes, the Dream is amazing! Can't wait for our trip! It's coming up soon!!!

Here's to the WARM sunshine!

I think by the time our cruise is here it will be much warmer in Nassau.:goodvibes Think possitive!!

Glad to hear you had a great cruise!! I am also glad that the straw market isn't in the tent! We were going to skip it this trip but may check it out now.

How was the water at CC? Was it cold? I want to do the stingrays but I am thinking I will freeze to death lol. Our last trip to CC was in Dec and the water was too cold for me then. The kids didn't mind though, they swam the whole time.

I will be looking for your trip report :)

CC itself was nice and warm and a nice breeze. It was what I would call a perfect day for weather. I like it warm too.

But the water was 69 degrees which is quite COLD for this Florida gal:rotfl:
But that didnt seem to keep others out of the water. I do admit it was more kids than adults but the kids loved it.

One month can be ahuge difference in the weather, so hopefully it will be warmer water when we go.
We were told the night before we arrived to expect cool weather and maybe a shower but it was just the opposite of the forecast.

Let's talk magnets for the stateroom door. I know we've talked about them before...but let's really talk about them.

Are you making them?

If so, are you using magnetic printable paper or are you laminating paper?

I'm at a loss as to what would be best and most economical. I don't want to try to save a few dollars to laminate if they would look better on magnet paper. But then I've read that sometimes smears. Thoughts???

I have never done them but I wish I had paid more attention on our last cruise for the cabins that had them.

I need to hear these thoughts as well. :)

The water is always too cold for me too. I am also from Florida! But i find plenty to do.

I always make a standard size ( 8.5 X 11) door sign. I make 2 or 3 of them and that pretty much covers the door. I have lots of Disney pictures that work great for door signs.

If anyone is interested in them I am happy to share, just send me and e-mail and I will send them to you as attachments. I have characters and scenic type pictures. My e-mail is at the bottom of my post. Just put Door Signs on the subject line or the date of this cruise so I wont delete you.

I use magnetic paper that you can get at many Wal Marts and Office supply stores. I think I got 5 or 6 sheets for $12.00. You just print off the computer right on them and it works great.:goodvibes

Here is an example of what I have made in the past.

By your post I wasnt sure if you wanted me ot share pictures for door signs or you just wondered who was doing them. My e-mail address is at the bottom of this post. Feel free to write me for pictures for door signs if you want. Please put the words DOOR SIGNS or the date of this cruise on the subject line so I dont delete you.
I get so much junk on my mail site if I dont see something I recognise I delete it.

Looking forward to chatting about the cruise with you!!

Morning ladies,

I always print pictures onto magnetic paper and have never had them smear. I probably have made at least 30 of them by now. They do take a few minutes to dry instead of a few seconds like regular paper.
Once they are printed i lay them on the table while I do other things so they can dry properly.
Then when I pack them I always put a sheet of plain computer paper on the picture side and stack them together. Then i put them in the package the magnetic paper came in to keep them flat in the suitcase.

I have my rough draft done for my trip report. Today I will try it get it fine tunes and add photos so I can post it in the next couple of days. Hopefuly it will be more photos than words since I am not very good at keeping the writing interesting.:rolleyes1

I have never done them but I wish I had paid more attention on our last cruise for the cabins that had them.

We made magnets for last years cruise and will do it again this year. The ones we made were done using two different methods. They were the magnetic paper and magnetic tape. The tape was used on the larger surrounds, for the room number, which were printed on card stock and then the tape applied to the back to secure them to the door. The smaller images were printed on 4x6 magnetic paper. We did not have a problem smearing with the magnetic paper, but we did let them sit a minute or two after printing. We also found just about all of the images on the disboards, from other gracious and talented members, and then modified them as needed/wanted. Hopefully this helps. Both types of magnets were purchased on Amazon. It was about $6 for 10 sheets of 4x6 paper and $4.50 for 1"x10' tape (last year). It was plenty for last year and we should have enough for this cruise as well:yay:

We used the magnetic printable paper (glossy, Staples brand), printed on inkjet and let dry before cutting. No problems with smearing and very easy!

Kathy

Brrrrrr that is COLD!!! I think I will skip the stingrays. I don't like the water temp to be below 80 degrees so I would FREEZE in that temp lol

Which do you think came out better; card stock or photo paper? I have my designs, but now trying to decide which way to print them.

I just ordered magnetic paper from Amazon. I can post once I try it (still need it to arrive to me)...I went back and forth about which way to do them... This trip I'm going to pay more attention to what others have done on their doors to see what I like best. ::yes::

Good morning everyone,

Just 23 days to go!! :cool1:

Just thought I would put a reminder out there for those who want to meet up on board we do have a meet scheduled.

First afternoon
3:00 P.M
Vista Cafe
Deck 4 Midship.

I have done this area my last 2 cruises and it worked great.:thumbsup2
Hope to see everyone there, even if its just for 5 minutes to say Hello.:goodvibes

Kathy

Looks like I will need to order magnetic paper too. The stores that carry it here have been out for 6 weeks and still dont have any:confused3

I really want to make new signs for this trip. I used my last 3 signs on 3 cruises. I am tired of looking at them.:lmao:

So time for some new ones!!

Kathy

Which do you think came out better; card stock or photo paper? I have my designs, but now trying to decide which way to print them.

I think it depends on the designs and the amount you want to spend. For us we found that the 4x6 paper was fairly inexpensive and about the right size for typical magnet designs. The room number surrounds were quite large so the card stock worked well and was less expensive than multiple 8x10 sheets of magnetic paper. The downside to the card stock is that it can crease and tear if not packed well. If money is not an issue then I might go magnetic paper for all of them, but cutting the magnetic paper is a bit tougher than cutting paper. I will see if I can find some pictures of our door and post them for you.

I got the last of what I needed to start on my FE gifts:woohoo:

Now I can get to work on them.

Hope everyone's week is going well,

Kathy

Good morning everyone,

I got up at 4:30 a.m. today, to take DH to the airport, so I thought I would say an early hello.:wave2:

I hope everyones day is off to a great start today.:goodvibes

Is anyone here a pin trader?

Back later,

Kath

We're pin traders ... Got hooked on it back in 2005. I have to admit we do more buying than trading, though. DD does not like to give up the ones she has :)
