Feb 28, 2010 - 4 night Wonder Cruise

Personally - I joined Weight Watchers last night and am hoping to lose about 10-15 pounds before our cruise. Does anyone else do WW or have experience with it. I would like to do the 5k run on Castaway Cay - that's my goal.
Congrats, Tammy, on joining Weight Watchers! :thumbsup2 I have done WW in the past and find that it is the only program that works for me....when I stick to it.... :confused3 Having said that, I think I'll be signing up again next week!

I was hoping to do the 5K run on Castaway Cay, too, and was wondering if slow jogging with intermittent walking is allowed?

I'm also starting to put together our Fish Extender goodies, along with attempting to sew our actual Fish Extender! Wish me luck! :rotfl:

I have also started shopping for FE stuff. We are hosting a New Years party so while I was at Party City buying supplies yesterday I took a detour to the Disney aisle to see what I could find. I nominated my crafty mother to make a fish extender for our family. Her response was "you want me to make a WHAT?" But she's already talking about getting some Mickey fabric so I think she's into it and it'll turn out okay.
I also briefly shopped online today to see what spring dresses are out there. Not much yet and also I'm going to look very pale in whatever I buy since I don't think Michigan has seen the sun since August. I did order two new duffle bags from Land's End since ours are getting old. I felt much more confident about buying luggage than eveningwear!
As far as Weight Watchers goes, congrats on joining! I'm still in the mindset that I can simply wish extra pounds away with positive thinking....so don't burst my bubble. :goodvibes

Oh let me know if you join - I could use a buddy - I lost over 75 pounds with WW about 4 years ago - so I know it works, but I lost motivation and gained most of it back.

I was planning on doing the slow jog/fast walking too. From what I read its not a timed event, so we can take our time. My DD will be running too, but she is a cross country runner, so I know I won't be able to keep up with her ;)

Good Luck with the sewing - I made mine without sewing - used fusable web and no sew glue.

Cindy,

Lucky you to have a mom who can sew - I don't think my mom owns a needle :lmao:

I have been looking for clothes too, but I can never find anything that fits - I think I'm too short for my weight - I am so frustrated - hopefully I can drop a few pounds before the cruise and can find some spring clothes that fit.

Welcome Aboard - so glad that you found us. I would love to add you to our FE exchange group - we will cut off particiapants around the 27th of January to allow everyone time to prepare. Please send me an email to
dthogue5@verizon.net so I have your email address and can send you the updated participant list.

My DD, Kaitlyn is also 17 and was excited to hear about your sister. She was afraid that she was going to be the only teenage girl on the ship. As you will see on our list there are lots of liitle girls :). If Shea is interested in talking to Kaitlyn before the cruise let me know - text, email, facebook, whatever works - I can send you Kaitlyn's info.

As for the passports, I believe as long as it is a closed end cruise (you depart and return to the same place) you are ok sailing with birth certificates. Double check though on the main cruise page - everyone there is always so helpful.

Happy New Year!!

So I'm thinking about what to do on Nassau. The best advice I've heard so far are either leave the kids on the boat in the Oceaneer's club and my husband and I can just walk to the shops and such for a while OR get a room at the Comfort Suites. Here are my CS questions:

1) I get a rate of $277 for March 1st. is that the right date?
2) How does this work? Can you go to Atlantis even if you can't check into your "room" yet?

Is is indeed a lot of money. Some of the glass bottom/semi-submarine excursions sound interesting too.

What is everyone else doing/have done in the past????

We did the 3 day last year and just stayed on the ship. We thought with such a short trip we wanted to see and do as much on the ship as we could. The Mickey pool was much less crowded then on the other days.

We are really debating what to do this time. Right now I'm leaning towards just staying onboard. My DS is only 3.5 and the Mickey Pool and Splash area are more than enough to keep him entertained.

My DS would swim all day every day if he could, so I know it's going to be such a fun time peeling him away for meals and shows. Kid can't swim, but thinks it's okay to jump into the deep end. :headache:

As far as planning goes we just need to take care of the van rental from mco to pc.and clothing, I bought most of them on clearance last fall, We got $100.00 dresses for $20 at Macys the little ones clothes at Childrens Place . We also still need some carry on bags and a suitcase for Rogan and Evie.I already have about 1/2 the FE gifts done. I still havent made the acutal FE yet.:guilty:. We planned on driving home after the cruise so we could stop at The American Girl Place in Atlanta, Rogan and Evie are going to LOVE that!! I'm also getting a spray on tan before we go , I'm a redhead so I'm really white and don't want to go to the Bahamas looking like a ghost:)

We were on the Wonder in may and stopped at Nassau - we did take Brenna on shore - we wanted her to experience the island. We didn't have any plans, but ended up taking a horse drawn carriage ride around the island. They gave a tour around the island - no too much to see - its kinda of run down. We paid about $30.00 for the 3 of us. Afterwards we went to the straw market and picked up a few souvenirs - it was an experience - also run down - I felt so bad for the vendors, all trying to sell the same thing.

This trip we are thinking of doing the day pass at the Sheraton for $25.00/pp - its grants all day access to their pools and the beach. If we don't do that, we will get off the ship after lunch for a little - my older DD wants to go to the straw market and go to Senor Frogs.

Happy and Magical New Year everyone! :wizard:

And welcome aboard to all of those who have joined the thread since my last post (it's been a while...). :welcome:

Since we'll be on the boat in two months, we really got into planning. In the last few days, we booked our flights, hotel rooms before (Hyatt) and after (All-Star Sports) the cruise as well as rental cars. :car:

We still have to order our WDW passes and decide on our excursion in Nassau. The first time we went, we did a carriage ride and the Straw Market. Two years ago, we went to the Pirate Museum on our own and took the Ardastra Gardens and City tour with DCL. This time, it should be the semi-submarine or the Harbor Tour. :boat:

I'll try to join you more often as the cruise comes closer... :wave2:

We're really starting to get excited. Now that the new discounted room rates have come out for WDW, we've booked 2 nights at the Contemporary after our cruise (for my daughter's 6th birthday). The new rates save us almost $400 over two nights!

Hope everyone has a GREAT day!

Diane

Our updated passports all arrived in the mail yesterday, it only took 3 weeks and we didn't request express service! So now it feels like we're really going.

Just for the sake of conversation, I was wondering who of this group participates in pin trading. We discovered it about two years when we visited WDW and it was the activity highlight of the trip. Sometimes when I see one of my girls make a trade I cringe and think 'oh no, don't trade that one!' I'm a backseat trader! They tell me I need to get my own lanyard which I might actually pursue.:cutie:

Cindy

I saw some princess lanyards that came with pins on The Disney Store site. Are those the ones we need? I've never bought a lanyard before. I know what you mean by not wanting to trade some they have some REALLY cute ones.:)

I'm trying to decide on whether or not I should book an excursion at Nassau. As time goes on, I'm pretty "meh" about the stuff that's available. Being pregnant I'm limited to tours and such, and I don't know if I want to pay $39 pp to ride around in a bus for three hours. I doubt my 3-year-old would consider that a good time.

My girls have been trading pins for many years. They keep them on a lanyard, but they don't wear it. It is too heavy and we found that we lost some due to the backs coming off. They just carry then ones they want to trade in a ziploc bag and pull it out when they want to trade.

The princess lanyard is perfect.

I'm still not sure what we are doing in Nassau. I know we are not booking a excursion. I was thinking of doing the Pirate Musuem, but the gardens sound nice too. I do want to get off the ship, my oldest DD has never been to the Bahamas and I want her to see it.

Our FE gifts are coming together - my girls are so excited and can't wait to hand them out. Reminder if anyone wants to join the deadline to register is January 27th.

Have a magicial day!

Tammy

Jeez, this thread keeps getting buried by cruises that have already occured.

I like the idea of the pirate museum. I think DS would get a kick out of that moreso than doing the fort/junkanoo tour. If memory serves me correctly, the pirate museum is right around the straw market area, yes? I was a bit traumatized there last time with how aggressive some of the vendors were. We figured out on the way out to go around the street where all the hawkers are and take the long way! Much more peaceful.

I've started brainstorming FE gifts, but haven't started making anything yet. I need to finish my FE! It needs a couple of pieces of flair...and a dowel.

Okay, I haven't even started my FE! I have been looking at some gift ideas, but nothing really exciting has jumped out at me. As for the actual FE, I looked at the no sew one and even that looks like it will take me hours. Off to ebay I went but just can't see spending $30+ for one. Our door might be the one with plastic Publix bags hanging off it:lmao:

My girls have been trading pins for a while and absolutely love it. We are only about 45 minutes away from WDW and so we are able to go over for an hour or two pretty often. Anytime the girls forget their lanyards I hear "I really wish I didn't forget my lanyard" every 30 seconds. And I know what you mean Cindy about some of the trades. I really want to jump in and say "are you sure???" to a lot of the trades. :rotfl2:

We are not planning any excursions at Nassau. We will probably walk over the straw market for a little while and then spend the rest of the time on the boat. DH and I went to Nassau about 10 years ago and were not impressed. We took a tour that pointed out some half dead gardens, the McDonald's,:confused3 and a few other things, but we couldn't wait for it to be over. Atlantis would be a blast but it is not in the budget right now.

Diane- that is awesome you found such at good deal at the Contemporary. What fun! That is definitely one of the draw backs of living so close. We rarely get to stay at the hotels!

Thanks for keeping us organized Tammy. We are counting the days until we go!

I made a no-sew one and was mad that I bought too much fabric. :headache: It would have cost me about $4 less if I had used common sense rather than following the instructions I found so closely. The special glue was like $5 (ow) and I had to buy two packs of the bias tape at $2/each. I bought some buttons to use as embellishments, but I doubt I'll use them.

I didn't buy interfacing or anything to put inside to stiffen it, though, so that saved me $5. I cut up some leftover shirt boxes from Christmas and used those as stabilizers. Of course, this means I'll only be able to spot-clean it, so I hope there aren't any disastrous messes between this cruise and the next (whenever THAT is!).
