FEB 2011 car rental thread

I just booked a midsize through Alamo for $115.00 incl taxes and fees, Feb 12-18.

Price just dropped from $115.00 to $96.97

price dropped again from $96.97 to $83.05

I booked the same National "fullsize crossover" back in August that many did. 2/10-2/19 (9 days) for $271 total. I'm looking to improve on that small crossover (Dodge Journey) through Priceline. I won an SUV last January for a winning bid of $18/day. I think the prices need to drop a little to get $18+fees again, but I'm in the ballpark. It's $27.99/day through Hotwire and I use that as a gauge to what I can get through Priceline. I've had $18 bids for a Standard SUV turned down with a counteroffer of $24 in the last 2 days (NEVER accept a counteroffer). The "suggested" prices (useless, but a guide to what price is too high) is $22 and $23. It's possible that $19 or $20 would get me the SUV right now and $19+fees is around the same total cost as the Journey would be. I'll try again tonight and will post if I get it.

National mid size Feb 22 - Mar 5 $570. :sad1: Not a good week for car rentals.

You can save over $100.00 with Budget. Try BCD Number x474200 (travelocity public code) and E-Coupon MUGZ029 for $30.00 off. Total for intermediate or midsize is $455.90 after $30.00 coupon is applied when you return vehicle and checkout.

National, Exec Aisle [fullsize] Feb 5-13 for $157 all inclusive. Base rate was $97 and change.

How did you get the $97 rate? I am going from 2/16-2/22

Your dates overlap President's Day Weekend. Unfortunately, due to the huge demand for rental cars that weekend, you almost certainly will not be able to get the same rate.

I'm having a similar problem trying to find a reasonable rate for my trip beginning Feb 20.

I've been able to quote it out a couple of different ways, as I was trying out options. Entertainment is pretty good as are the codes on Mousesavers....remember you can stack contract IDs with a coupon. Good luck!

* your dates might be trickier, with the president's day weekend. I'm finding base rates of aprox $200. It appears National is blocking the use of coupons for that rental period.

Feb. 6th thru the 11th, full size National Executive Isle, base rate $71.23, grand total $113.90. I'm happy with the rate and I do love National!!

Feb. 26th through Mar. 5th, intermediate SUV (Ford Escape) for $250 base ($332 total) through Budget (promo code Y937800).
