FEB 20, 2010 Western MAGIC Cruise

What do you guys think?
We are leaving from POFQ on Sat. I booked the Town car to bring us to port.
They are coming at 11 and said it is about an hour to get there. Do you think I should have them come earlier? 11 was check out time so I just figured that was when I would have them come:confused3

It really is only about an hour trip unless there's some traffic delay. If you don't want to be the first people in the terminal, that's great. You'll get there long before most of the people using Disney transportation. I love the ride from WDW to the port. I'm going to miss it this time, since I'm coming from the airport, but I'll be making the return trip back to WDW. I'm not sure why I like it--I guess it's just one of my (many) eccentricities:rotfl2:!

Beth (waiting for the predicted awesome winter storm to start)
As I typed the above message, my countdown until I walk out of the office door for vacation was 12 days, 12 hours and 12 minutes. That's awesome--it started at over 260 days!

Don't worry about bringing playing cards. I'll bring several decks of regular poker cards.

Deb, I am so happy that your family will be together again on this cruise. Looking forward to meeting all of you (and everyone else!).

We leave 2 weeks from tomorrow and my husband just got back to the States today. He's been in the Persian Gulf for almost 5 months and we can't wait to see him! I got the phone call at 6am this morning that his plane had touched down. What a relief! Now just a couple more days till we can all see "Daddy". We are so excited about all being together again on this cruise. So really no excursions for us---just enjoy the ship and having the family together. He will return to Tampa after the cruise but at least over the next 5 months until he retires we will get to see him monthly. I'm very tired of taking care of everything by myself! I really don't know how single parents do it. I am ready for a break---and some warm weather ---and the ship! Have a great night all. we are due for some SNOW! Debi

Such a blessing for your family to be together again!!! I am sure you will have a great vacation with lots of memories.:grouphug:

puckerup:Reunited and it feels soooo good!!!:love1: You two are going to be like teenagers on the cruise!! :love2:Love it!! Glad to hear he's back safe in the States!!
How organized are you all about packing?? I usually wing it the day before, but feel that this time, I need to do it differently...are you guys doing any system for packing?? Can't wait!!:mickeybar:hyper:

My system? First I make a list. Then I lose it. Then I make another one, this time in Excel so I'd have to lose my laptop to lose my list. After that, I generally ignore the packing list and just throw in the usual stuff until the suitcase weighs 50 lbs. Then I have the bigger decision. Bring another bag or remove and replace stuff in the original bag? :confused3

This will probably be a two bag trip, what with the FE stuff, the wine, etc. I'd rather buy the wine when I get to Orlando, but I don't land until just before 10 p.m. on Friday night and am taking the shuttle from the hotel at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. Not sure what time the liquor stores open on a Saturday morning or what's near the Marriott with decent Chardonnay. If I knew I could buy the wine down there, I'm pretty sure I could keep it to one checked bag for this trip. Sun dresses and a swimsuit don't take up that much room! It's always an adventure. :upsidedow

Hi DISboarders that are cruising with my friend Marilyn (granmaz)

I've given Marilyn and assignment and would love it if as many of you that are inclined can join in on the joke.

Whenever you see this officer:

Go up and talk to him and say, "Oh, you are the "HANDSOME" Daniel that I've heard about. Don't worry, he'll love the joke and he's a great guy to talk to!

If knowing the background makes you more comfortable in doing this, here it is.

I met Daniel (Food & Beverage officer) on the May 08 Panama crossing. Needless to say all my travel companions heard about it. :lovestruc On our recent (2 weeks ago :sad1:) cruise one of my friends ran into him the first day and said, "oh you're HANDSOME Daniel, I've heard about you". Later when he ran into us in the dining room, he mentioned it and I told him not to be surprised if he hears it (the 'handsome' word) more often, I know a lot of people. He said he had a crew of 1,000 to keep an eye on me and I just smiled knowing I had 100 times that many people on the DIS boards. :cool2:

BTW he told me he reads the DIS when he is on leave as it's the best way to keep up with what's going on on the Magic!

Everyone have a great cruise!

I was very organized about packing a month ago. I put all of our swimwear in the suitcase, pretty sure that we wouldn't need it here. I was right--I'm looking out my window at two feet of snow. It's very pretty, and I'm really glad that I don't have to go outside my door today! If the roads are good tomorrow, I may venture with my DS to Walmart. He wants to buy a computer, and he wants me to look at it with him. If it's what it says it is, and I have no reason to believe that it isn't, I may buy one too. My desktop blew its hard drive just before my cruise in May, and in August I bought a new laptop, but I would love to have a slightly more powerful computer for my artwork. We shall see what happens!

Now back to packing...I haven't even thought much about it since the swimwear. I haven't figured out what clothes to take, what I'm going to wear for formal and semi-formal nights, what shoes (or should I say how many pairs of Crocs?), etc. I'll still be throwing things in the bag on my way out the door to the airport! Jim always tells me that we're not going to Mars, and if I forget something, there are stores everywhere we're going, and, of course, he's always been right! He has it easy with renting a tux. No decisions, no worries. He'll pack his Hawaiian shirts, a pair of elastic waist pants so that he doesn't repeat his previous episode of having to fly home in his bathing suit, and whatever else I tell him he has to bring. I figure I can squeeze his stuff into half a suitcase, and then use the other suitcase and a half for me, right?:rotfl:

Good day folks. How's the Mid-Atlantic doing? We could use some of yours - will you send some snow please? :lmao:
Do you know if there are safes on the ship? I can't imagine there aren't, but our last trip (Copenhagen) there wasn't and I was bothered.

On another note, thanks for bringing the poker cards. Do "we" play Texas hold 'em or something else? If we're playing for magnets, please let me know now so I can pack them party:
-Hillary, who went to TWO ski areas today.

Nothing like packing swimsuits during a blizzard....I can't even see the mailbox anymore.

There are safes on the magic...at least there were 8 months ago when I was on.

Yay, Deb on having your hubby back...it must be a wonderful feeling!

So school is cancelled Monday and Tuesday...no school next monday for President's day...that means six days of school left before we leave. Yikes. I am SO glad we are flying in the day before.

Kathy you might want to purchase your wine in Key West on Sunday. Donna and I are going to buy our bottled water there cuz we each want a case and don't care for Evian that DCL offers.

Thanks for all the well-wishes. He IS home! YEA!
Working on Pinewood Derby car with our youngest since the race is in the morning. Poor guy---I saved the worst part for him--the wheels! He is SO tired too. I really can't believe he is here. I've never really felt this way---it's like he really wasn't gone and yet I have to keep telling myself he is home. I really can't get it through my brain. Two weeks from now and we will be having our first dinner aboard the beautiful Magic. Enjoy the snow everyone. Deb

I will be glad to send you ALL of the snow in my yard. Let's see--3/4 of an acre at two feet of snow....postage should be about $100,000 plus the cost of a refrigerated truck. Wanna split that cost with me?:rotfl2:

I will admit that it's very pretty. I will also admit that I haven't been outside my door. My older granddaughter went outside yesterday and the snow was up over her knees, so that's about two feet. We wanted to take the babies outside to take some pictures (and maybe try a bit of sledding), but if they fall, the snow will be just about over their heads, so someone has to shovel a spot for them.

This is the view out my window. You can't really tell how deep the snow is, but it's around two feet.

Sue,

That's a great idea! I remember there were wine shops and liquor stores all over the place last time I docked there. But the other ship didn't let you bring anything back on. Disney does! ::yes::

I'll pick up my water there too...

Beth,

Can't tell you how odd it felt to hear about a storm anywhere on the Eastern Seaboard and not get hit twice as hard as anywhere else. It's still cold (16 degrees) but it's sparkly sunny outside. Sorry you guys took the hit on this one...:duck:

Kathy Q

Thanks Beth. I'll get back to you on that refrigerated truck. :rotfl2:
Who was it who said there are only 6 more days of school until the cruise :confused3 Not only have we in NH had only one snow day this year, we don't even have President's day off...go figure. So, assuming that the snow we're supposed to get on Wed. is under a foot, my kiddies have 10 days of school :woohoo:
Have a great sunny day :sunny:
-Hillary, who just made enough meatballs to feed the entire neighborhood for a week.
