We usually have nothing to do. We bought tickets for the Lion King months ago. 4th row, center orchestra! DH has been wanting to see this again for years.

Then the invitation comes in the mail. My niece's daughter is being Christened that day!

The play starts at 1PM. It is 2 hrs, 45 mins. with a 15 intermission. The church is at 2:15, with a dinner to follow. No way I will be able to do both :scared1:

I really think my family will be extremely upset if I don't go to the Christening.
The tickets cost us $183.00.

:sad2: :sad2:

See if you can sell the tickets to someone. If not, you have to be honest with your niece and explain the situation. I'm sure everyone will understand. There aren't many people who would happily throw away $180. Good luck!

We've asked around, no one wants to spend that much for the tickets.

I'd explain it to them and then go to the Lion King. You made the p[lans long before they set the Christening date. If they don't understand, oh well. JMO.

I would take my family to the show. Sorry, but you made your plans first.

I'd go to the play and explain that you had already purchased the tickets. I think as long as you explained why you weren't coming, sent a gift and a nice card, that it should be fine.

i agree. i went to my cousin's son's christening recently. it was on October 6th. they decided on the date less than two weeks ahead of time! i live far away and had to get last-minute airfare to attend. i wish they had given us more time to make travel arrangements, they had been mulling dates over for many weeks beforehand. luckily i didn't have any plans that weekend, but if i had, i would have kept them because it was such short notice.
the baby won't remember that you weren't there anyway ;)

Here is how I feel about it: If someone reallllllly wanted me to attend an event, they would call me prior to scheduling it. If they didn't take that precaution, then they should realize that prior plans may have been made and that sometimes those prior plans cannot be changed.
