Fear the Walking Dead - anyone?

I loved the seeing the principal attack. When the kid(sorry can't remember his name) tried to stab him through the skull. You get the difference between the beginning when Walkers were fresh & the decayed that are easy to stab through the skull.
My DH said he needs a better knife. To me it looked like a table knife/steak knife. He thinks it's an open blade, like a straight razor with a blunt end. Either way, it did not get the job done and he needs to upgrade.

My thoughts.

Tell the sister what's going on! I agree, the secrecy is stupid, she's not a small child.

The mom did go to speak to the neighbors having the party when Travis left. Would I have gone out there? In my shoes yes, hers? No. She's got no weapon, her son is sick, her daughter is useless and she's traumatized from her encounter with the principal.

I hope we see more of Tobias. He could be this series Glenn.

Get the F out of dodge!!! And not to bring up other threads, but Travis's kid is a prime example of my house my rules". Son, when I say come home, I mean come home NOW!

I would not have gone out when the neighbor was being attacked either. She had both of her kids in the house, and at that point, it was probably too late. And unless she has a gun, and can shoot well (we haven't seen any weapons with them have we?) there wasn't much she would have been able to do to help them.

I'm curious as to what the gun laws are in Ca. Anyone live there know?

In NY I believe it's just about impossible to own a gun, so it would make sense there not to have one, but I'm not sure about Ca. Also, they are teachers. Not the most pro-gun group out there.

We said poor Tobias needs a better knife too. "Can I have my knife back?" that was too cute, but yeah, he needed to find a better one.

One of the things Scott Gimple said we would see how much harder it is to kill a "fresh" walker as opposed to the ones that Rick etc deal with. The have been percolating in the sun for months so much easier.

I think it would be so awesome if Tobias turned to be the Glenn of this series. He recognized the danger way before any of the adults.

ITA the daughter should be told if only for her safety. You can't deal with something if you don't know what is happening.

Who's next? I am thinking the wife of the family Curtis is holed up with, seems if you are nice you are next.

I agree about the mom not going back out to help the neighbor. I thought that was very realistic. You keep yourself inside and safe with your kids. Plus I'm sure she was totally freaked after what she saw/did that day. Not sure I'd be ready to take on another grown man trying to eat someone!

I have a feeling the family in the barber shop has someone who was sick/bitten in their back room. Just the way the daughter came out and the guy was refusing to acknowledge another exit. Worried about how that's gonna turn out!!

Based on previews, it looks like a lot of "police state" type stuff for a while. No way people are moving on LA freeways for a while. I have a feeling that's where a lot of the drama will be-right in the neighborhoods with police and military presence.

California has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation. You have to obtain a Firearm Safety Certificate (by passing a written test) in order to purchase a handgun. All sales have to be through a licensed dealer, and manufacturers have to submit guns for safety testing. Also, California's constitution does not guarantee an individual a right to bear arms.

I'd say it's easier to be issued a medical marijuana card and legally purchase cannabis than it is to legally carry a gun in California. It's really an interesting difference from TWD, set in the south where everyone owns a gun, and the protagonist was a police officer.

Of course, most of FTWD is set in East LA, which isn't the safest neighborhood to be in, so we might see some guns appear soon.

^^ Tobias did mention the gun shops being near the top of the list to be looted. I'm sure that will be happening soon! Now how well those non-southerners can shoot them is another story. I know I'd be in trouble! ;)

I had never really given much thought to the beginning of the "virus" before, but the way they are telling the story so far seems very realistic, especially in LA. The way that the dead are walking around right now, dragging their limbs and eyes not focused on anything, I don't think I would pay them much attention. I would just assume that they were homeless and/or on drugs. So I can completely understand the protests and riots because LAPD was "killing innocent homeless people". Los Angeles really loves to protest.

When Travis hopped in the truck to go get his son, I understood why he thought that was necessary (the ex-wife really wasn't budging), but I was also screaming, "No! Whatever you do, don't get on the freeway!"

*** Same in Ma, but not sure about the inspection. Do you mean before it leaves the manufacturer or what? You need an FID card here to buy a gun, and you have to take a class and pass the test to get the FID.

*** That's, um...interesting.

I looked at my DH when they were showing the traffic from above trying to get out of the city (just white and red lights on the highway not moving) and I said "I am never moving to the city". Which would never happen anyway, but these shows solidify that. No way no how.

That traffic is what LA looks like on any normal weekday.

So in order for a handgun to be sold by a dealer in California, it must be "California legal" on the state's roster of handguns for certified sale. In order for a gun to be listed on this roster, the manufacturer has to pay a fee and submit that particular model for safety testing.

Pt. 2 - Yes, it is interesting. California's gun laws are currently being challenged by the federal courts because the US Supreme Court established that the Second Amendment applies to all states in the union. So this might not be the case for much longer, but while we're being "historically accurate", it was definitely in effect during the spread of the "virus" in FTWD.

Okay...I have been in this since the beginning...Who the heck is Tobias? I never pay attention to names.

He's the kid who set off the metal detector in the first episode because he brought a knife to school. In the second episode, he's the one who was stocking up from the school cafeteria.

Well, we can assume that Matt (Alicia's Boyfriend) turned, as the very last scene with the car in the driveway, with the trunk open and the luggage sitting there was Matt's house. I'm thinking Matt ate his Parents.

Loving the show so far!

Most people I know here in San Diego own a gun. You can have them in your homes no problem. We have several in our house, plus military members are exempt from the CA stuff so you can have guns you bought in other places, just can't take them to shooting range or carry them concealed if they don't meet CA standards.

Most people I know have a gun for protection. It's easy to get legal weed too, but it's not as hard to carry guns as you think.

Wasn't that their neighbors? The guy who was packing and coughing when they came back from killing Cal? I may have it wrong, but I thought that's where that shot was, and I assumed he was the one going after the the neighbors across the street where the party was.

We had the same discussion in our house. My husband thought it was the boyfriend's house and I thought it was the neighbor's-it flashed so quickly!!
