Fear of drops and riding the Hulk?

Hi everyone,

I'm not a big fan of drops. Small drops are no problem. I can also handle the big drops on Splash, Jurassic Park, Expedition Everest, and Screamin' (at California Adventure) just fine, but that's about my limit. I hate that sinking-tickly-tummy feeling from drops. I've gotten the courage to ride the TOT twice now, but truthfully.....HATE those drops!

Okay, so I'm trying to psyche myself up to ride the Hulk, but I can't figure out if those long, looping drops give a person that sinking-tickly-tummy feeling because it looks like the coaster is often coming out of some kind of inversion before heading down.....and wouldn't that sort of take away that sinking tummy feeling? Even the beginning of the ride appears to launch riders right into a corkscrew type of inversion before going down that big drop, and I would think the sensation would be very different than that stomach-up-in-your-mouth feeling when going down the big drop on Splash, right?

I hope you can understand what I'm asking. I'm not sure I worded it very well. :rolleyes1

Personally, the drop is not noticeable. The launch is more of the major effect here. It is more intense than Screamin' but if you can do that loop and launch, you can do the inversions on Hulk.

I agree with Damo, the drops are NOTHING...it is the launch that is what gets you.;)

The launch is crazy. If you've ridden Aerosmith's RnR you can compare it to that... except it's worse because you're getting launched up instead of straight ahead.

I'm with the others - the drops are barely noticeable on Hulk. I keep trying to tell my DD that since she is the same - doesn't like the feeling in her tummy.

I've been on RnR many many times. Love the launch. It's one of my favorite rides at WDW. I knew this ride wouldn't have any major drops, so I never even hesitated to ride it. :thumbsup2

So it sounds like the only thing on the Hulk that sends your stomach flip-floppin' is the launch then? The rest of the ride is just fast and fun without that "Oh no, here comes a drop!" dread?

That's exactly how it is - enjoy :thumbsup2

I second that (or third, or fourth) that there really aren't any belly drops. I get kind of ansy with those too. Splash Mountain makes me nervous! The launch is fast and awesome and my favorite part.

Sadly, I don't ride Hulk anymore because it's just too much for my equalibrium. I fall over when I get off and my feet go numb.

Oh no, that's too bad that you can't ride it anymore. Do you have the same problem after riding RnR?

If you can do Hulk, you can definitely do Dragon Challenge.

That's what it's called now - Dragon Challenge! I knew it wasn't DD anymore, but I couldn't remember the new name.

I watched some video of DC on youtube, but I can't tell whether that first initial drop (on either red or blue) is one of those stomach churners or not. It looks like both sides begin the drop going at a curve, which may make the drops less intense.....hopefully.

After just visiting Universal, I think the ride with the worst dropping sensation was Jurassic Park. Even Rock-it which looks awful, just isn't long enough to really create that tummy sensation. I could feel it flattening out almost immediately after going down. The IOA coasters are more about twisting and loops than drops.

My 17 DD will not do Splash Mt, ToT, Dr Doom or Jurassic Park due to the drops, but she loves the Hulk & DC... don't ask me why .. :upsidedow

I do get a headache after RnR, like a migraine type headache, but no falling over or numb feet. Even on Dueling Dragons, Dragon Challenge whatever, I still don't have those effects. I think Hulk is just extreme extreme and a bit too intense. At least Dueling Dragons is smoother, to me anyway, as long as you don't get the very front or the very back. I enjoy the rides like that, the thrill, but I either just refrain from riding them, or ride them the very end of my time there because I always get migraines afterward. However just because of the extreme side effects of Hulk, I won't ride that one again. Not for me! I like to stand underneath and watch though. :-)

I also get the migraine-like headaches after riding RnR. It's from going upside down. So, any ride with a loop, I won't do. I also can't do Expedition Everest any longer. Even though it doesn't have a loop, I think that backwards part in the dark is what causes it.

No, I don't think you get that tummy feeling with the DD either. With this one it is all about the loops! HAve fun!!!:thumbsup2

...but the launch on Hulk is MUCH smoother than the launch on the Aerosmith RnR. I recall the track on RnR being quite rough.

I'm really glad I read this because I wasn't going to do Hulk as I heard alot about how bad it was but now I'm not to scared of it!! I've done RnR many times and love it so I guess I could handle Hulk too.......I hope!!

First off, let me say that I am not a fan of roller coasters.....However, after going to Universal for three straight years,I finally got the courage up to try the Hulk because of a guest that went with us.

My opinion is that the Hulk is much more intimidating to look at than to ride...I am afraid of heights..after riding it twice I can tell you the scary part is at the point of launch, thinking your going to fall down a large hill after you reach the top. This is not the case.As you crest the hill, you turn slightly and it smoothlytake you down without the "falling" sensation. The loops are amazing...it is incredibly smooth and you never get the "height" sensation that you are seeing on the ground.

I honestly believe anyone that is thinking about riding it, should.... I don't regret it.......it actually gave me the courage to ride others now.
