Is it me, or do the gate guards at the Polynesian Resort sometimes take their position a little too seriously?

I guess you could say they're just doing their job, but it seems every time I've been there I've been grilled like a police suspect.

Geeze guy, I'm only going to dinner at O'hana. Do I really need to wear this ankle transponder?

Anyone else notice this?

If not, thanks anyway for letting me vent.

Actually I appreciate their efforts to keep the area safe and to insure a parking space for the guests there.

The problem is many lie about why they are and then those that are there with a legitimate reason suffer the consequences.

I agree with the OP. Half the time I have to tell them to put the rubber glove away. It isn't about security, though. It is really about parking spots. But, I have less of a problem with them doing the policing of WDW than many of the people on these boards who try to do it, at least it is the vocation of the guards...it's just the avocatiom of the people on the Dis!:p

LOL, which begs the question....would the guards even need to police the gate if many people haven't taken advantage of the parking facilities meant for resort guests, instead of using the facilities clearly meant for day guests of the theme parks?:p

I've never felt this way. They ask where we are going, check our name on the printout, hand us a parking pass, and wave us in.

Having a PS will make entry a lot easier.

And I agree with poohandwendy, regretfully too many bad apples brought on the need for guards to beginw with.

I appreciate the efforts also and wish all guards at the gates would be the same.

They have to do this..because of all the guests who try to get away with things..like parking there for the day/night whatever while they see the fireworks, etc. Causes crowded parking lots for guests actually staying at the resort.

Anyone who's ever paid Poly prices to stay at the resort will appreciate the guard's "attention to detail" much more than someone who's just visiting for whatever reason. Unfortunately, the guards probably hear the "I'm eating at O'Hanas" thing a hundred times a day from people who don't have any intention of eating at O'Hanas, but just want to park and ride the monorail to the MK. Of course, this creates the uncomfortable situation mentioned by the OP for honest people who really are going to O'Hanas to eat. The problem isn't the guards, it's the folks who crash the Poly and take up all of the parking spots meant for paying guests.

I've never had a problem either. When we've stayed there we hand them our reservation confirmation as we pull up and everything is fine. However, we have never drove over to the Poly when we've eaten there...we usually arrive by monorail so maybe this is where the difference is.

OT Ducklite: Your updated pictures are beautiful! I didn't realize the house had a 3 car garage until I saw it at a different angle. Looks like you'll be in soon...enjoy!

Security is getting tighter due to abuse from non guests and I am glad to finally hear about it.

Not only are they paying more attention at the gate but I have been told that they are riding around on bikes to check for expired passes and towing cars.

Also I am happy to hear they are doing random checks at the pool for non-Polynesian guests using the pool and someone even emailed me with a description of a family that was more than embarrassed when asked to gather up their stuff and get out.

from the Poly yesterday. You'd be surprised how full the lot gets and how hard it is to find a parking space sometimes. I totally appreciate the guards' efforts. However, I see your point too. You just want to enjoy the dining.

:cheer2: EXACTLY!:cheer2:

Hmm leaving for the Poly on Friday - I really prefer to self park - don't know why but am leaning toward valet. For those of you who valet there do they add that to your hotel bill or do you pay that bill separately at the end of the week?

Thanks
