FE question...........origins?

OP, what a neat idea for a thread :thumbsup2 We happily participated in a FE exchange on our Thanksgiving '08 cruise. It was the highlight of my kids' week! We are cruising again in Feb '10 and I have enlightened friends who are cruising with us to the DIS and FE.

Debbie- how neat that you still post here! Your idea has brought countless joy to so many families and children- THANK YOU!!!

Debbie, you are going to the Baltics, right?
Thanks so much for starting this tradition! I had a hard time starting my med scrapbooks and have just started doing them. Well, I think I have all of my gifties from that trip except for the edible ones!
It was just so much fun! For the Baltics, I have learned from the threads, the cms love goodies too so Im bringing extra, they do get a kick out of FEs and like to see what youre giving out.
Thanks Debbie!

Yes I am doing the first Baltic cruise. And my original fish extender is in the cruise box already!

Deb

I am not participating in the FE for our next cruise because I have so much going on between now and then, but it will be fun to see all the different style FE. WE will decorate our doors though. Today I am going to Hobby Lobby so I will get some magnets to decorate the door with. We have a cute little candy shop in town so I will probably go by and get some candy to pass out to the Dis board kids at our meet up on the ship.

I know, I know!

It was on the first Panama Canal Repositioning cruise in 2005 (Westbound)

We all had matching Mickey fish extenders on that cruise... just in different colors. We had a large Dis group, so it was great fun seeing them all over the ship.

I even know who to give credit to: Epcotkilterfan... Thanks Debbie! :thumbsup2

Who knew way back then it would become the huge Dis tradition it has?

I still have my original Mickey fish extender. Very Cool!

I still have mine too - a green one. Even has the tag from Debbie still on it. It has mail in it now.

OOOOHHHHH, GREAT DEBBIE!

Though I don't know you
(to say I did would make me a pretender)
I can say that you've had quite the impact
With the innovation of the Fish Extender.

Now, what did you call it when you first distributed them? Can you post a photo (at your leisure) of the original?

I am sooooooo looking forward to our cruise and seeing the FE's

We had about 120 or so on our Disboards FE list on the Sep Double Dip in 2008. It took me almost 3 hours to deliver all our gifts.

Plus there was another group onboard that had FEs that were not part of our DIS group. Probably another 40-50 of those.

:rotfl2::rotfl:
Yes I am the instigator of the Fish Extender  I had NO idea that it would get this big. I still laugh when I see LONG threads about fish extenders and their gifts.

The intent is to share with other DISr's. Put a gift in and if you get a gift in return that is a bonus! I always have fun passin out the FE gifts on the cruise. But now.... I won't know who is a DIS'r and who isn't! There are other groups that have adopted the fish extender.

My favorite quote from a guest in the hallway was.... "those things hanging on the doors must mean that there are children in the room":rotfl::rotfl:

I am glad the tradition continues and can't believe I innocently started a phenomenon 4 years ago on the FIRST time through the Panama Canal

Debbie
Awww, Debbie, you beat me to it.
We will always be in your debt.:worship:
Here's what Deb's FE look like. We have 2.:yay:

Forgot when her birthday is, but remember her mom's.:goodvibes

C'mon Debbie!!!!!!

When is DOB?:bday: Don't need year if you're shy but we need another excuse to celebrate!party:

LOL!!

You just missed it... April 30 is my birthday :lmao:

Even celebrated it with the Mouse!!

I am so glad that folks are carrying on the tradition

Debbie

We called them that on the May 2005 PC repo where they originated. I think we were calling them that in the cruise meet thread before we even got onto the ship.

April 30th

The birth date of the inventor of the Fish Extender: Debbie:worship:

All in favor...say "That's swell!"

Ideas for celebrations?:confused3....I say we celebrate it the way they celebrate World Series victories: turn over cars and set police cruisers on fire. Or, maybe not.:lmao:

Anyhow, since this innovation has had (literally) world-wide impact and has been adopted by other cultures (e.g. non-DIS cruisers) the celebratory rights belong here before someone else takes credit for them and we have a cold war (cold door?) situation developing.
