Hi all! We rec'd a FD pin code a while back & booked our trip for 8d/7n in Sept. :cool1: We are big foodies & we really want to try some new places this year. (HDDMR, Tutto(?) We have our staples: CRT, O'hana's for b/fast & dinner, Coral Reef, Le Cellier. That already puts us at 10 TS credits!! Does anyone know how to figure how much more the DxDP upgrade would be on 7 nights in Sept? Or, should we just stay a couple of more nights (like I wanna do anyway?!?!) TIA for any advice! :goodvibes

The upgrade is just the difference in the plan costs... 71.99 deluxe cost - the free 39.99 basic plan = $32 more per adult, per night.

DH and I had upgraded with FD! I would highly suggest it - we love the signatures, and the freedom to get an appetizer (without paying OOP) is worth it right there! We love trying new things, plus the 2 snacks per person per day go toward ice cream, dole whips, pretzels, and bottles of water! :thumbsup2

YUMMMM! I would love to have my appies back! (We hated that they took them off the basic DDP!) Hmm, DxDDP adds $448 more, just for the adults! :scared1: How much more would the kiddos be per day?

I guess I should also figure up how much more another night or 2 would be on basic DDP. But, oh my goodness, I don't know what I'd do if I had the Dx for 8 or more days! I might gain 50lbs!!!!!! :rotfl: Thanks for all the advice!

I checked the sticky & got kids prices. The total would be about +$600 (before tax) to add all 4 of us to the DxDDP. Hmmmm....gonna do some calculating to see how much more a day or 2 would be. Don't get me wrong, the food is one of the MAIN things we look fwd to at WDW, :rotfl2: but if I could get another day or 2 for close to the same price, I'm all over the extra days!!! We just  the mess outta that place! :rotfl:

Don't forget to factor in all the extra $$$ for tips that you would be spending on the deluxe plan. :)
More TS meals + signature dining = lot more OOP money spent on tips.

We have FD with the Basic Plan but
if we decided to go the Deluxe plan--I would try most of
the Signiture Restaurants which cost 2 TS Credits--because
of better food quality and choices.
we can't eat as much as Deluxe Plan would offer--
plus don't want to be going from one TS to another--
would rather walk off most of the calories of previous meal.

Its the extra tips that is the budget breaker upgrading to the DxDDP if you do all TS meals.
We did this on our last 8 night trip in August. We were four Adults as both DD's are over 9.Upgraded to the DxDDP during free diningfor $32 each per night. Total cost to upgrade (32x8=256x4people= $1024)

8 TS Breakfasts averaged $80.00 each meal (80x8=640) 18%= $115.00
8 TS Lunches averaged $150.00 each meal (150x8=1200) 18%= $216.00
8 TS Dinners averaged $225.00 each meal (225x8=1800) =18%=$324.00

So total tips for the 8 nights was $655.00

Plus the alcohol that we had that had an automatic 18% added to it.

It was alot of fun.........a ton of food but if I upgraded again I would make sure to mix in some counter service meals as well!!

Staying a few more nights and getting the meals free sounds good, but you could also just pay for a few restaurants (the cheapest ones-breakfasts, etc.) OOP ...that would probably be less than $600 and may even be less than adding a few nights (depending on how many OOP you want to do).

I really appreciate everyone's input. I never een considered the extra $$$ for tips. We'd be eating so many more ts meals than originally planned, & DxDDP would've added WAY more than just the flat $600!

So, we broke down & added 2 more days! With the FD, it only added $198 more to our trip!!!!! :yay: We can't beat that! Thanks for all the help. ;)

I don't think they add tax to the prices for the dining plans. That price is the price.

they do add tax... i believe last year the cost including tax to upgrade an adult was about $36.

on our 10 day DxDDP last fall we ended up with nearly a thousand dollars in tips... it negated the "free" part of free dining :scared:

i would love to upgrade again this year, and just make smarter choices but we will likely stick w/the free regular DDP and just go out of pocket instead!

WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder how many poor servers get the bad end of that deal....vacationers who budget to the "T" but never figured in 18% on all those extra meals! Goodness, I sure do miss the old dining plan. :sad2:

i miss it too!! i also had not thought about servers getting stiffed... but i'm sure it happens... we just charged everything to our rooms and were mighty "surprised" when we went to the front desk halfway thru our trip to settle our account (w/disney rewards)... when we realized how quickly it adds up, we changed a few of our ADRs to include some more of the gratuity-inclusive meals (CRT, SoA, HDDR) to give ourselves a "break" :)
