Faxing room requests??

Our disappointing stay May 25 - June 6 at POR began with the discovery that not only were our verbal requests upon booking IGNORED ~BUT ALSO~ the fact that we had FAXED the request, as instructed, the week before our arrival - our request for any of THREE different buildings was disregarded. I would like to know IF this was effective for anyone else. Best of luck to you.

Most resorts no longer accept faxed requests. They tell you to note them on your reservation and they will try to honor them but no guarantees. Back in 1993 we started faxing requests ... it worked until that got popular and they got inundated with them. Then they started just discarding them. They got so many they couldn't keep up. We have been fortunate and each time most of our requests have been honored. There are times, however, when it isn't possible due to the fact that they are at capacity ... or your check in/check out doesn't make it feasible, etc.

Mytwinklestar - so sorry to hear it didn't work for you. I know the room assignors really try to accomodate requests, if at all possible.

Keep in mind, once you check in if you aren't happy with your room you can go back to the front desk and request another. Sometimes you might have to wait until the next day to move ... but they will try to make you happy ... in most cases.

When I made my reservation I asked if it were possible to get a specifice building and I was told that they would take note of it and then I should mention it again upon check in. Is this bad advice?

I really don't care all that much and it will not make or break the trip, it's just that there is a building that we don't like so much and would prefer any other one.

Most room assigners at the resorts are not looking at faxed requests anymore. At least that's what we've been told on many occasions here. Make your requests when you book your room and be done with it. They really do try to meet at least some of your requests but sometimes it just isn't possible.
I do remember one time at POP I had requested a lake view, top floor. I didn't care what bldg..just wanted to be by the lake. What did I get? Ground floor facing the bushes that faced the parking lot for the 80's bldg. Yes, the lake was over to the side, off to the right. I asked the CM is there was anything else available. I just hate being on the ground level when staying by myself...all that foot traffic. The CM looked at me like I had two heads and told me, and I quote, "Wow, most people would kill for this room. And no, there is nothing else left." She was the worst CM I have encountered to date, in about 15 trips to WDW. She didn't even check to see if there were any other rooms open. Now, the room was actually fine, not much foot traffic at all, but that had more to do with the fact that it was waaay out in the boonies of POP.
But, for the most part, the checkin CMs have been really good about trying to get us into rooms that fit some of our request. In fact, I have had the best luck at POR...they have bent over backwards to get me in a terrific room, every time.

I have had great success and just asking for a location at check in. I have been pixie dusted a few times too. :)

I didn't fax my request for a 1st floor room at the POLY. My TA noted in my reservation that I wanted a 1st floor view of the volcano pool and the CM saw that request upon check-in.

As always, if you don't like the first room you're assigned, you can always ask the CM if there is another one available.:thumbsup2

I have been told specifically that faxed requests are typically placed in the round file. Those in the know tell me to note it on your reservation and then inquire at check-in.

I've faxed each time we've gone. Not sure if it helps or if it's just luck, but we've always gotten what we've requested.

None of the DVC resorts will accept faxed requests. You have to give them all to Member Services and have them added to your reservation.

We send a fax a few days prior every time we go IN ADDITION to having it noted on our ressie. We've asked at check in and are always assured that they did receive it and note it. We've been able to get our requests each time. Don't know if that had anything to do with it, but it sure didn't seem to hurt. If they trash it, what are you out? The time to dial a number and hit send...:goodvibes

1) More and more resorts are not taking fax requests.
2) They are received and then placed into "File 13".
3) Also, if you have too many requests on the ressie, they are usually ignored.
4) Rules of thumb
. . . make one request
. . . make it on the ressie
5) Moral of the story - make one request, and make at ressie time.

EDIT: When people request two or more items, they slow up the Rooms CM (room assigner). They have a lot to do and not so much time to get it done. Thus, they frequently ignore the whole request. After all, to grant requests, one has to look at several rooms and try to balance them out. That takes time. Frequently it takes A LOT of time. When you have 8-hrs to assign 200-700 rooms (or so) every request hurts your output.

When was the last time that you have utilized the faxing method with positive results, because CM have been know to "frown upon" faxed room requests in past few years?

The last time I faxed was about 2 weeks ago...Ive faxed 3 times for specific rooms in 3 different years and received the rooms each time....this past one was for 2 connecting rooms and we got 'em.

Faxing worked for us, I'm sure you'll find others that will disagree.

Thanks!...hopefully, I can add another one!

I guess WDW only accepts faxes from Hingham people! :thumbsup2
