Does this still work? I know a few years ago faxing was a great way to have a better chance at getting your request. I don't know if it is still beneficial. Thanks.

I have heard that it does still work, though I have always just had my requests noted on the reservation and it has always worked out just fine. I think either way would help.

I think it can't hurt... I did it, although my requests were noted on the ressies as well. I do have to say, though... I was at the front desk when a family was checking in... and ALL of their requests hadn't been met... and they weren't happy! They wanted: a room on the highest floor possible, which, according to the CM at the BC is 4th unless you're concierge..., a full balcony - according to CM not possible on 4th floor (don't know if this was just that there weren't any available at the time, or if no 4th floor balconies are full)... and non smoking... I think they ended up with a 1st floor room.

I decided, when it was time to send my fax, what was MOST important to me... and sent just that request. My only requests were non smoking and a day bed... and I figured, since I was bringing my mother along (who is a smoker - but when we get a non smoking room, I send her elsewhere to smoke), that we could live with the smoking if we had to... but the daybed was most important since there were 3 generations in one room... and I refuse to share a bed with DD6 since she's a bed hog!

I guess, what I'm trying to say, just don't be TOO picky... and you shouldn't be disappointed!

I am from the other school of thought. We just request when we are standing at the check in desk. The CM's are very eager to please and have gotten what we asked for and then some.

I can't remember if it is 4 or 5 days before arrival that you fax requests. I'm arriving 11/15 so when would I fax my request?

We've never faxed our requests either. We've always asked for the most important things for us when making the reservations and don't get too specific...nonsmoking, first floor is our usual request.

I am a little more specific for DVC.

I think the room assigners and front desk CMs try very hard to help you but if you get too specific they may not be able to accomodate you. Can't kick out guests already in the rooms :D or match requests that aren't possible as in the case of the family that candleonthewater overheard.

I always fax 4-days in advance and always get my first or 2nd choice, which is nothing more than a building request. But we always get one of those two choices so we're happy.

My last two trips to C.Beach we got the exact bldg. too.

:wave2:
I just returned from a long weekend at POR and decided to fax in a request just to see what would happen.;) Well, I asked in a nice way for a non-smoking room in the Magnolia Terrace area and what I got was a non-smoking room, Magnolia Terrace, 2nd floor corner room with a gazebo view from one window and a view of the canal from the front window:Pinkbounc . WOW! It was a great room. We were upgraded from standard to water view and it was so close to everything we needed:smooth:. I think we really got lucky:cool1:

As a person that used to be a room assigner, I can tell you that if you fax in a request with more than one or two requests, we would simply throw out. If your requests were to far fetched, you would most likely get the worst room in your catagory. If you simply requesting a room with a day bed, or location, we would do what we can.....FYI....Dont ask for a view of MK, Epcot, if your resort has them. Those who ask for them by fax 90% will not get it. Make that request when you make your reservation. THat is the list that we would go by. I have many friends in various resorts that are Room Assingment, and they almost all work the same way.

If you do not get your requests....Please do not get upset with the cast memeber that is checking you in. There is only so much that we can do at the time of your specific check in. Remember that you are not the only family that is staying in that resort. We do our best for our guests at all times, But we can not give you what we do not have.

:earsboy:

as a person who works at both the front desk and reservations at a resort here at home, i will tell you the last thing u want to do is be mean or rude to the person who is assigning ur room. if u request a view, bed, room, whatever.....remember-you are REQUESTING IT. it is not absolute that u will get it

Have I totally screwed up our reservations by faxing a request this morning? I was very polite and appreciative for anything requested. In no way was I demanding. I just wanted to get a final request in and don't plan on doing any additional requests. (This was one thing off of my pre-trip list!).
