working on our "meal plan" for Disney and finding it kind of overwhelming... right now I'm looking at our non park days and looking for suggestions for resort restaurants for supper that are really cool for kids who are fairly picky eaters and not used to exotic foods, not looking to try new and exciting things...just cool themeing really. I already have Chef Mickey's for Breakfast on my list of wants. We are staying at AoA which of course only has the food court.

Not a resort restaurant, but T-Rex at Disney Springs is super themed and has all of the basic food options for kids. Visiting Animal Kingdom Lodge and just doing the Mara (quick-serve) would also be a good option... the quick-serve is not super themed, but just walking around the resort and checking out the animals is fun.

T Rex is on my list for arrival day supper!!

All the restaurants offer something less adventurous for kids. As far as theming, I think Sanaa is awesome. (DD usually gets a cheese pizza there, and a dessert that she can paint & eat which helps distract her long enough for me to eat.) I love the bread service, and looking at the animals before/after/during lunch if lucky enough to be seated by the window.

If you don’t have a Rainforest Cafe locally, might be worth trying.

T-Rex is great fun.

My kid was terrified by the movie at Sci-Fi. I was terrified by the food. We won’t be going there again but it is themed.

Garden Grill was a family fav. Good food served family style and great character interactions. Plus it rotates!

we don't have one locally but we have been to the one in Niagara Falls (we live in Ontario) so we'll probably skip it just for the sake of trying something we can only do at Disney

Same lol, we live in Toronto and have never been to the Rainforest Cafe elsewhere. I do enjoy it but not enough to skip the other restaurants for it.

My kids are very picky and enjoy whispering canyon or trails end.

Boma at AKL. It is a buffet with a wide variety of items they have regular thungs plus their African faire. And you can visit the animal viewing areas

Boma at the AKL is great plus you can walk around the resort and see the Animals after
Storybook dining at Artist point at the WLV s great also
Topolinos is the new real hard resize to get never been but hear its worth all the hype and
Roaring Fork at WLV is so much fun either for Breakfast or Dinner

Honestly most restaurants will have something for picky kids in terms of food. For example, if a restaurant serves noodles with a sauce they will likely serve it on the side if you ask, etc.

I really enjoy themes, and found the food at most places better than the reviews. Here are the ones I would suggest.

-T-Rex (just agreeing with your suggestion :)
-Sci-Fi is awesome for the theme, there's a reason the reservations are so hard to get
-At Epcot we love Coral Reef and have dined there 4 times (kids had plain noodles once and plain chicken/broccoli the other). We skipped it this trip and did Rose & Crown (fireworks) and Space 220 instead. All these are awesome options for theme but Coral Reef wins in terms of price.

If you have picky eaters, start by looking at some of the menus. That's more important than "cool" theming, having a restaurant that has food that your children will eat.

The Tonga toast at Poly is legit and can be mobile ordered. You can take the bus to MK and the TTC boat to the parking lot next door to Poly.
