hi Debs,

I was in Barcelona a few months ago and we were told the best area to stay was on the Ramblas, so that's what we did,,, anyhow can't remember offhand what the hotel was called but my advice to you is not to stay in this area as at night time it could be pretty scary. We went wth a group of 17 of us, so you would think we were safe, but 2 of the people with us got mugged and there are lots of prostitutes and pickpockets there too.

Sorry if I have scared you, that wasn't my intention, I just really wanted to warn you about staying in that particular area especially as you have a little one with you. There are of course much nicer areas in Barcelona, but I'm hoping that there is someone else here more qualified than me to recommend somewhere as I have only stayed in the one place.

Lucky you booking the med cruise, I would have loved to have been able to do that! Have a fantastic time :thumbsup2

Ooooh my favourtie city of all time - I semi grew up there as a kid.

We go back regularly for long weekends and stay at the Hotel Principal on Junta de Comerc. It is about half way down Las Ramblas from Plaza Catalunya and the marina.

The hotel is down a side street leading off the Ramblas and although it is quite dark it is perfectly safe. I have regularly ventured out on my own. It is a 3 star hotel (officially), is immaculate and the rates are very good. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, there is a continental breakfast but to be honest I would head to one of the restaurants if you have time. The ones on Las Ramblas are expensive but the ones down the side streets are very reasonable.

If you really want to treat yourself look for churros - deep fried batter fingers with a thick chocolate dip. Add a triple expresso and you're good to go!

I have lost count of the times that we have visited Barcelona and have never had any problems.

If you need any info about the area let me know :thumbsup2

...Barcelona to help us choose a nice hotel

Hi Debs. We stayed in the Hotel 1898 before our Disney Cruise from Barca last year. The cruise was phenominal and, while I didn't enjoy Barcelona itself ("just another city..."), the hotel was fantastic. Not cheap mind, but I'd stay there again tomorrow.

We stayed here
Raco Del Pi
last year and I really liked it.

The rooms were small, but very clean and the bathroom was great. There was free help-yourself tea and coffee available all day in the lobby and the continental breakfast was pretty good. It's in a side street near Ramblas that was really quiet at night but fairly busy by day - a short walk to the old cathedral and lots of shops and restaurants, and an easy stroll to the metro or the open top bus stop. We felt quite safe there :)

I would definitely stay there if I visited Barcelona again :) I don't like making recommendations because everyone has different requirements / expectations, but all I can say is it suited us very well!

Hi

On our last visit we stayed at the H10 Marina Barcelona - this hotel is fantastic !

It is located about 500m from the marina / beaches and is within walking distance of the main tourist areas / bars / restaurants etc.

The hotel styling is very contemporary and the service was excellent.

An added bonus at this hotel is the rooftop pool and terrace with views over the city.

I would highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Torre Catalunya before our cruise last year. It was close to the central station (we caught the train from the airport), and right next to one of the on-off city bus tour stops. It is however, not very close to port.

Service there was wonderful, and the swimming pool was lovely after a hot day's touring.

It was also one of the few places that offered rooms for 3 people.

Thanks guys! I really don't know the lay out of Barcelona...........so please help! We will be flying into the city and then intend to get the bus from the airport to Port Aventura for a few days. Then we'll return to the city for a couple of days before we get on the cruise. How far is the port from the centre? Would be great to be able to see the Disney Ship arrive in Port!!!
Any more hotel recommendations?
