Lately, I have become obsessed with the opening guitar solo on the song Barracuda by Heart. I don't know what it is, but I could listen to it over and over and over again.

My daughter plays regular guitar but maybe I'll have to convince her to switch th electric so she can learn it. Then, I'd sit outside her door and beg her to play it all day LOL

There's another one too that I really like but can't think of it off the top of my head. Maybe one of the answers will remind me..

I like the "Sweet Child o Mine" riff, but I LOVE the Lucky Uke cover version of it.

Does it count as a riff if the bass player has it? Because I think my favorite is that line from "Roundabout".

I'm not normally a Fall Out Boy fan, or much of a John Mayer fan -- but the opening guitar in their cover of Beat It, and the solo in the middle, are some of my favorites ever

I also really, really love the guitar in Santana's Black Magic Woman

Opening riff:
Layla
Barracuda
Stranglehold (Nugent)
Space Station #5 (Montrose)

Solo:
Stairway To Heaven
Comfortably Numb
Suite Madaam Blue (STYX)

Dueling Guitars:
Freebird
The Prize (The Blend)
Fall Of The Peacemakers (Molly Hatchet)

"Through the Fire and the Flames" by Dragonforce. 20 years after Kurt Cobain killed 80's-style heavy metal, with its beautiful hair and its references to fire and dragons and mythology and such, here come these guys to bring it back. And when they reach the solo, hand to the FSM it will melt your face.

The opening bars of Layla, of course.

And a side note, I love the piano coda of that song best of all; it's one of my all-time favorite pieces. (The whole song, not so much, but the instrumental parts are just incredible.)
A radio station here many, many moons ago made a classic rock compilation album for charity. Layla is the opening song. That album was one of the first things my DH and I discovered we had in common so Layla became our song. Flash forward many years and got a female pup. We have a tradition of giving our pets rock & roll names so clearly she had to be Layla.

Oh, Stranglehold, YES! Wish I hadn't come to loathe Ted Nugent in recent years. You have some great choices here.

So many choices it's hard for me to pin only a couple down. What immediately came to mind was Zakk Wylde's solo in No More Tears.

Best guitar solo- Eddie Van Halen Eruption. We saw them a couple years and he's still got it.

My favorite guitar riff is Edge of Seventeen by Fleetwood Mac.
