Favourite Childhood Toy?

What was your favourite toy?

Mine was a push-a-long doggie Apparently there was one at the health centre that I use to play with, when we would leave I would cry, so I got one of my own.

I had this small chimp that I loved to bits, I remember he had a hard stomach and hard plastic feet and hands. I loved him so much, my dad had to repair him about a hundred times for me.

Probably my Fisher Price pull along phone - It was good to talk!

A real sign of the time though - When Molly was last in hospital she played with another little girl and they found a pair of mobile phone/walkie talkies. The first thing they used them to do was to pretend to take photos of each other!

Mine would have to be my teddy bear Shaun, he still sleeps in the bed and has to come on holiday with us or I can't sleep. He has now been to WDW twice and to DLP where he got to spend a day in the Studios after we'd checked out. I must have looked so silly walking around the park with a teddy bear's head poking out of my backpack!!

Though to be honest my favourite "toys" (apparently ) were my imaginary friends, Robert & Timothy. I used to make my mum cross the road holding hands with me and one of them, and then I would insist she cross back over again to escort over whichever of the two of them had been left behind

She claims to have never got over the embarassment

Anna, your poor Barbies suffered like mine did. I used to make plaster of paris plaster casts for their broken legs from a mixture of talc and water!

My fave childhood toy is my teddy bear Charlie, he was given to me when I was born. I say bear, he is either a bear or a mouse. He is so old and battered that none of us can remember what he was originally! Still have him, although he now lives in DS's room and not mine.

Tiny Tears was my favourite when I was young then I progressed to Girls World!!....I was bought quite a few as I kept making them up to look like an evil Coco the Clown (not on purpose!!). I remember one night my brother who was 19 at the time (hes 11 years older than me) came in from a night club. My parents had left one lamp on for him but my 'beautifully made up' Girls World head was on the table......he got the shock of his life and was hysterical waking the whole household up and mum had to comfort him....I have never ever let him forget it and still take great joy retelling the story to his 3 kids in front of him!!

Karen, I am in stitches over your poor mum crossing the road to collect your left behind friend!!!

My fave toys were my Britains farm animals, I spent many happy hours making bridles for the horses out of elastic bands!

I had a Tiny Tears doll too, but I also remember that I had a Tippy Tumbles doll which was really popular in the 60's, here's a link to one

My youngest DS has a Ty Beenie Buddie, its a ginger cat and he calls her Mummy Amber. She's been to DLP & WDW but we have a lot of trouble when he has to put her through the detector machine at the airport, he gets very upset

I have a rabbit/mouse (similar story - I always thought she was a rabbit but she really looks more lie a mouse)that I was given for my first birthday called Claire which I still have. Her head is hanging by a thread and there is stuffing coming out her feet but I couldn't part with her.

One present I remember really craving was a set of dolls bunk beds like the ones my brother and I shared which I got when i was about 6. They were gorgeous all girly pink gingham and with little pillows and everything.A week after getting them my brother (3) was playing in the room and heard the ice-cream van as he couldn't reach to see the window he tried to stand on the top bunk and put his foot through them .I've never forgiven him !!

My brothers fave was his six million dollar man action man type doll and Mr Frosty who was never as good as the hype !)

Callum had a gromit when he was born and it went every where withus, it got left in the Novotel at Heathrow once and after hours spent chasing it around Heathrow on the phone it came back to us a few days later in a box full of digestive biscuits and little milks with a note saying 'just in case he gets hungry on the journey'. The Novotel is still my favourite hotel there because of this.

I still remember waiting excitedly to open my presents on Xmas Day 1966 and discovering that my dreams of having an Action Man came true. In those days it was Action Soldier, Action Sailor and Action Pilot. I had the soldier and the pilot along with some seperate packs containing other uniforms and equipment. I had longed for these toys to come out as I had seen the adverts for G.I. Joe in the american DC and Marvel comics for a couple of years and when Palitoy announced their version of it the countdown began to Xmas! Figures and equipment packs still boxed from that era fetch extraordinary prices today, I wish I still had them!
