It's that time of year! We just had the invite come out for my office Yankee Swap. The limit is $15, and I'd like to think of something good to put in.

With that...I turn to the guru's of all things awesome. What has been your favorite Yankee Swap gift?

Um, I am a northerner (Yankee, right?) and I don't know what that even is??? White elephant gift?

Yankee Swap where we are from is where everyone brings a wrapped gift and you take turns either choosing a wrapped gift or "stealing" someone else's opened gift so they have to pick something else when you take theirs.

Gift cards are always a hit here. You could do one $15 one or 3 $5 ones to McDonald's, Starbucks & Dunkin Donuts, for example. Those seem to get stolen the most often at the parties my family goes to.

Oh ok, thanks! We call that 'dirty bingo' here! ;)

Yes, gift cards are always a hit! Or Christmas movie/popcorn bucket.

Last year what was stolen over and over was a crock pot! ?????? Don't know why and same with a new toaster oven the year before. I bought them both on Black Friday maybe they were popular because it was perceived as a good deal or our 20 dollar limit? Confused!!!

Maybe they were 'shopping'...(to re-gift!). :lmao:

I actually did bring a crock pot for our "Dirty Santa Gift". the limit was $15 and WalMart had a holiday appliance section where the different color crock pots (by Crock Pot) were priced at $18. There was a sticker on the box that had a coupon to take $4.00 off... so I got it for $14.00. So I thought it was an awesome gift to bring. And it did get "stolen" alot!

So, it can be done without re-gifting! :goodvibes (the only bad thing was, I went back and bought one for myself...it was super cute in red!!)

Booze is always a big hit in my office; the gift packs with a couple of glasses always get passed around a lot. Lottery tickets the same.

One year I found a winner; I got four Irish coffee mugs at Crate and Barrel and then put some fun flavored coffee in the box (those vacuum packed, single pot kind). There's a lot of perceived value in the white Crate and Barrel box, but the mugs are surprisingly affordable at $3 a piece. Here's a link:

Another year, the big hit was an electric toothbrush for some reason.

Yankee Swap
Dirty Bingo
White Elephant
Dirty Santa

ok, just making a list of all of the names this kind of swap goes by. I know it as White Elephant.

Some sort of novelty hat! Here's some ideas: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=novelty+hats

I bought one at Home Depot a couple weeks ago, it's an elf hat and it plays music and moves and has lights. It was somewhere around $12 or $15. THey had several different styles.

Last year in our family's Yankee Swap (we call it 'the grab bag'), there was a gigantic purple velour top hat. Everyone had a lot of fun with it, and we took pictures of everyone wearing it, and almost everyone set their FB profile picture to themselves wearing the hat the week after Christmas. My 9 year old son was just running around with it on last night. :rotfl:

This year for ours ($10 limit) I am doing a set of Christmas candy bowls plus 2 packages of candy to put in them. I got the bowls for about $4 total after Xmas last year.

I have out of season things before (although depending where you are - might be tough to shop for at this time of year) - like a large nice beach towel in an inexpensive beach bag.

Wine usually goes over really well.

I have done a bottle of wine with one of those novelty wine glasses that is all decorated.

I have also done a movie box with popcorn, popcorn bowls, candy, and movies.

Candles usually are not a big hit for ours.

Oh. Nice gifts. We have a gag gift group and so far the most popular give was a tissue box in the shape of a Tiki guy. The tissues came out of the nose. (it still sells on Amazon.) :lmao:

Our Yankee swap is a gag gift theme this year. Does anyone have any ideas ?

One year someone wrapped a 5x7 picture of themselves....No one traded for it . In the end the picture had powerball tickets in the back.:santa:

We brought soap that smells like bacon to our last Yankee Swap. This year it is soap in the shape of a hand. Get it? Hand soap? :) Both bought on Amazon

This was mentioned on another thread here, You May Have Touched Your Genitals Hand Sanitizer. There is also a hand soap :rotfl2:
