I don't think we've covered this yet.

What is your favorite finale of a TV series? Mine had to be "Newhart". I still laugh over Bob waking up in his old Chicago apartment and saying to Emily "I just had the strangest dream."

I don't know but it sure wasn't Seinfeld.

Looking at just the subject line my first response was going to be Newhart.

"You know, you really oughta wear more sweaters."

Mine would have to be Cheers! The most disappointing one was Seinfeld

Definitely NEWHART! I just posted that on another board. LOL

Will & Grace, Friends and Seinfeld were VERY disappointing.

Your correct! I thought of Newhart as soon as I saw your tread. My favorite for sure. :)

Six Feet Under - Excellent finale! Cried my frigging eyes out but absolutely awesome!

I loved the finale of The Cosby Show, where the entire family left through the front door and Dr. and Mrs. Huxtable walked off the front of the set.

Mine was MASH. I just bawled when it was over!

I hated the finales of Roseanne and Mad About You. Just awful.

Seinfeld was a big disappointment! They rarely even show it in reruns.

M*A*S*H was very well done.

M*A*S*H, Mary Tyler Moore, and Cheers come to mind as good endings. Newhart has to be the best though. It was extremely clever. Seinfeld and Friends were great disappointments.

MASH was great. Newhart was too. I thought Six Feet Under's finale was a little ridiculous at the end. It just got a little too silly for me.

As bad as Happy Days was at the end (the shark had completely devoured the show by then), I loved the way Mr. C. toasted the audience at the end of that finale.

BTVS the finally was beautifully done. but I'm still sad about spike and anya! (even though spike did come back in angel)

MASH was a close second.

The Nanny is an honorable mention.

Definitely "The Wonder Years." I thought it was a great ending to a superb show. I also liked the "Frasier" series finale. "Living Single" was good but a little abrupt. It's like one week it's on, the next week the show's over! "The Fresh Prince of Bel-air" finale made me cry. It was really sad. Series finale I never saw but wished I had? "Oz."

I have to add what is really my favorite series finale: Magnum, PI. I'm not talking about the very last episode to air, which was cheesy and badly imagined. I'm talking about the finale they made one year before, before they decided to do one extra season. It was superbly done, and actually had Magnum passing away, then walking on clouds to heaven with a John Denver song playing. They nicely wrapped up the storyline with him saying goodbye to Michelle, as he sort of "haunted her" and helped her to let him go, without her knowing it.

For the following, added year, they had to clumsily find a way to bring Magnum back to life after the previous show had him going off to heaven. The storyline with Michelle was sort of re-ignited. It was interesting, but had a tragic outcome, although his daughter survived a car bombing in a very unrealistic way. To end the series with Magnum rejoining the Navy and then Rick stuck between saying "I do" or "I don't" was a disappointment. This is one show that needs a reunion movie. All the principals are still alive and it would be good to finish this series off better than it did.

Another vote for Newhart. I don't think I've ever been that surprised by a series finale - before or since.

"Life Goes On," followed by "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman." The latter did a two-hour MFTV movie about a year later. "Quantum Leap" was pretty good, too.

ETA: "Family Ties" was pretty good, too.

What was silly about it? It showed how all of the major characters lives ended. A perfect ending for a show that dealt with death in every episode...
