DW and I are going to OKW in May for 12 days for our first DVVC trip.

I would like to know what everyone's favorite thing about OKW....Thanks everyone

I have lots, but the first one that came to my mind was sitting on the porch/balcony in the evening after a long day in the parks and enjoying the views and quiet. I just love it!

Going "home" soon!!!!!!!!!!!

We like the large units...but the laid-back, quiet atmosphere, insulated from the rest of WDW is what we really love.

Danny & Erica: Great post! I just made reservations yesterday for July 12-19th at OKW and came here to ask the exact same question:p . I have my family in a 2-bedroom and my parents in a studio, on me of course. :)

I have stayed in Beach Club Villas, which are spectacular. I am looking forward to Old Key West because I understand the rooms are so big.

Like you, I can not wait to read the answers from others who have stayed at OKW. Thanks for doing all the hard work for me. :smooth:

I hope you are staying in at least a 1 BR. The 1 BR is very spacious, parking right outside(if you have a car), beautiful landscaped grounds and a large patio(balcony) that has a large table and four chairs.
You will enjoy the pontoon boat to DD to do some shopping or vist some of the restaurants.
If you stay in the Turtle Pond area, they have excellent facilities for grills and picnic tables. Other neiborhood pools also have grills.

We actually own at the BWV, but could not get a ressie for our first stay in 2000 as they were booked so we stayed in a 2 bdr at OKW. We loved it and have gone back. Don't get me wrong I love the BWV also but for different reasons. OKW is so quiet and peaceful. On our first stay we were in building 64 on the 3rd floor. It overlooked one of the greens from the Lake Buena Vista golf course and it is also surrounded by water. It was an incredible view every night when we returned, the sun setting with the shadows on the still water. The golfers were done and it was absolutely peaceful. The rooms are huge and the hot tub is also bigger than those at the other resorts with the exception of VB. I will never forget the day we walked into that 2 bdr for the first time. We had bought sight unseen and so had never seen any of the units. Both my DH and I were thrilled and actually almost hated leaving that great room with such a wonderful view. The resort is nicely laid out for such a big resort. You can be close to the Hospitality House or the pool in the Turtle Crawl area if you like a little more activity or there are many areas that feel almost secluded. Last year we returned to a 1 bdr in building 24 which was very quiet. The beauty of DVC is the options you have and I think you will love it.

Having a cup of coffee on the balcony first thing in the morning while everyone is still sleeping. So nice and quiet and peaceful. Can't wait till May 5th!!!!!!

Agree with the above but like to add the "Boat Ride" from OKW to DD.

We loved the large kitchen and large dining table for our family of 6. We actually fixed quite a few meals in the room to save money. It worked great with the small grandkids who don't like to sit still very long in restaurants.

Why do I love OKW? Let me count the ways!
-large units (1,2, and 3 bedrooms, 'cuz we don't DO studios)
-parking outside the door
-early morning breakfast on the balcony watching the sun rise.
-late night on the balcony relaxing.
-the 3 quiet pools and hot tubs.
-the boat ride and walkway to DTD.
-the sidewalks for early morning or late evening walks.
-Peace and quiet!
-the wildlife.
-the huge kitchen/living room.
-the friendly staff.
-the lowest possible points for accommodations in DVC!

Is it only the 1-BR that has parking right outside?

Just wondering about some of the details of my 'hopefully' soon-to-be home resort! :p

OKW is our first home (we also own at HH). I love OKW's lower pts. structure because I think you get alot more per pt. AND I love the parking. While we have enjoyed our stays at BWV & BCV, it was a different type of trip. We always have a car at OKW & love to park in front of our unit as we make several car trips per stay. Your car is actually closer at OKW than it is at HH. But I think the parking is indicative of the total laid back feel of OKW. Our family stayed in BCV for 5 days in March & we loved our 2BD unit. But at the end of the trip, we knew we would be returning next March to OKW.

Almost of the rooms having parking right outside. I think one of the new buildings doesn't have it's own lot (64?).

I love the laid-back atmosphere, the lush tropical landscaping and the nature (ducks, rabbits, turtles). Even though I own at BWV, I love OKW for our May trip, which is more laid back. BWV is great for early December when you want to be in the middle of the Christmas activities.

You are at WDW but you don't feel like you are at WDW - you feel like you are at HOME!!!

It is a wonderful feeling - love OKW.

Yes I also love the wildlife - OKW has alot of it.

I like to walk around the resort while the sun is rising - beautiful!

The whirlpool tub after a hard day on my feet in the parks.

the extra room of OKW - you can spread out - you have space!

the patio - oh this is so nice for breakfast or the evening meal.

OKW has enough pools - that you can generally find one that is not busy - yes even the pool next to your villa.

I am sorry but I like to relax when I am swimming - I love children - but not when I just want to be lazy - you can do this at OKW. You can generally do laps at the OKW pools.

I Agree!

I will also add the size of the rooms and not having to walk 5 miles to your car doesn't stink either!

You'll love it!
