I just saw Hayley's comet
Shooting
Said why you always running
In place?
Even the man in the
Moon disappeared
Somewhere in the
Stratosphere

And remember the truth that once was spoken
To love another person is to see the face of God.
~ "Finale", Les Miserables

Nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight
Gotta kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight
~ "Lovers in a Dangerous Time", Barenaked Ladies (seems to be a bunch of BNL fans on this thread)

I heard this on the radio this morning, s'matter of fact.

I'm standing at the crossroads in life, and I don't know where to go.
You know you've got my heart babe, but my music's got my soul.
Let me play it one more time, I'll tell the truth and make it rhyme,
And hope they understand me.

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I die before I wake, feed Jake, he's been a good dog,
My best friend right through it all, if I die before I wake,
Feed Jake

Now Broadway's like a sewer, bums and hookers everywhere.
Whino's passed out on the side walk, doesn't anybody care.
Some say he's worthless, just let him be.
But I for one would have to disagree.
And so would their mama.

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I die before I wake, feed Jake, he's been a good dog,
My best friend right through it all, if I die before I wake,
Feed Jake

If you get an ear pierced, some will call you gay.
But if you drive a pick-up, they'll say 'No, he must be straight.'
What we are and what we ain't, what we can and what we can't,
Does it really matter?

Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I die before I wake, feed Jake, he's been a good dog,
My best friend right through it all, if I die before I wake,
Feed Jake

I have WAY too many to post them all! I decided to do top five. :goodvibes

"Without love
Life is Doris Day at the Apollo"
-Hairspray

"If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me"
-Beach Boys- "God Only Knows"

"My grandmomma was a wise old soul
Took me by the hand not long ago
Said, "Son, what's your hurry, boy slow it down
Taste the wild honey, listen to the sound
Of the wind that's blowin' through the trees
Rivers flowin' to the sea
Yeah they're all headin' home just like you and me
Life's for livin' child, can't you see?"
These are the days we will remember
These are the times that won't come again
The highest of flames become an ember
And you gotta live 'em while you can."
-Keith Urban- "These Are The Days"

"Do you remember
The way it used to feel
When love was only make-believe
And fairy tales were real"
-Brian McKnight- "Remember The Magic" (It was the song Disney used for the Remember the Magic parade around 1996 and on the very first Disney cd I ever owned. I listen to it at least every other week. Brings back so many memories.)

And because it's short and I love the whole song-
"I don't believe in frettin' and grievin';
Why mess around with strife?
I never was cut out to step and strut out.
Give me the simple life.

Some find it pleasant dining on pheasant.
Those things roll off my knife;
Just serve me tomatoes; and mashed potatoes;
Give me the simple life.

A cottage small is all I'm after,
Not one that's spacious and wide.
A house that rings with joy and laughter
And the ones you love inside.

Some like the high road, I like the low road,
Free from the care and strife.
Sounds corny and seedy, but yes, indeed-y;
Give me the simple life."
-Give Me The Simple Life

Do you remember
The way it used to feel
When love was only make-believe
And fairy tales were real"

I LOVE that song..I remember on DH and I's honeymoon sitting outside the castle watching the fireworks and tears coming to my eyes when that song played. I'm trying to figure out a way to make a slideshow or movie of our recent trip to WDW with that song in the background. :)

Remember the times, remember the feeling.
Remember the magic in our eyes.
You opened up my eyes and you gave life new meaning.
So remember the magic, just remember the magic one more time...

BNL write great lyrics- love Break Your Heart too!!

There are so many, I can't post my favorite.

Here are some of my favorites:

Cinderella, she seems so easy
"It takes one to know one," she smiles
And puts her hands in her back pockets
Bette Davis style
And in comes Romeo, he's moaning
"You Belong to Me I Believe"
And someone says," You're in the wrong place, my friend
You better leave"
And the only sound that's left
After the ambulances go
Is Cinderella sweeping up
On Desolation Row

-Bob Dylan, from "Desolation Row"

Masters Of War

Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain

You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins

How much do I know
To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good
Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I will follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

-Bob Dylan

She's got the mind of a child
And a body peaking over the hill
Well, she would if she could
And she should but nobody will
With her nails painted red
And her hair so unnaturally curled
Well I think that she may be
The oldest baby in the world

-John Prine from "Oldest Baby in the World"

Ideology

When one voice rules the nation
Just because they're on top of the pile
Doesn't mean their vision is the clearest
The voices of the people
Are falling on deaf ears
Our politicians all become careerists
They must declare their interests
But not their company cars
Is there more to a seat in parliament
Then sitting on your ****
And the best of all this bad bunch
Are shouting to be heard
Above the sound of ideologies clashing

Outside the patient millions
Who put them into power
Expect a little more back for their taxes
Like school books, beds in hospitals
And peace in our bloody time
All they get is old men grinding axes
Who've built their private fortunes
On the things they can rely
The courts, the secret handshake
The Stock Exchange and the old school tie
For God and Queen and Country
All things they justify
Above the sound of ideologies clashing

God bless the civil service
The nations saving grace
While we expect democracy
They're laughing in our face
And although our cries get louder
Their laughter gets louder still
Above the sound of ideologies clashing

-Billy Bragg

Elvis Costello - She Lyrics

She
May be the face I can't forget
The trace of pleasure or regret
May be my treasure or the price I have to pay

I think Elvis in time will be viewed as one of the greatest songwriters of all time Love so many of his lyrics my fav is below though I think it is cowrote with Burt Bacharach.

My thief

When I go to sleep, you become my thief
Why don't you steal what you can keep?
But you won't let me be
You break into my dreams
And every day seems different
Sometimes I pretend you'll come back again
And you'll console the heart you stole
Have pity on the man
Who knows that you have gone
And has begun to break down

I feel almost possessed
So long as I don't lose this glorious distress then
You can take all I have left
I know it's over
If you can't be my lover
Be my thief

I'm so drowsy now, I'll unlock the door
What fades in time will hurt much more
So here's that happy scene
Where you come back to me
It's only found in fiction

I feel almost possessed
So long as I don't lose this glorious distress then
You can take all I have left
I know it's over
If you can't be my lover
Be my thief

(song by girl)
"I didn't lead you on,
But there will always be
A little larceny in everyone

So hush and don't you cry
I'm trying to be kind
Because I have a perfect alibi"

Garth Brooks- When You Come Back To Me Again

There's a moment
We all come to
In our own time and
Our own space
Where all that we've done
We can undo
If our heart's
In the right place

Collin Raye- I Think About You

it doesn't matter who she is
I think about you, eight years old
big blue eyes and a heart of gold
when I look at this world, I think about
you and I can't help but see
that every woman used to be
Somebody's little girl, I think about you

Michael Buble- Home

And I feel just like I’m living someone else's life
It’s like I just stepped outside
When everything was going right
And I know just why you could not
Come along with me
But this was not your dream
But you always believe in me

Tell my mother
Tell my father
I've done the best I can
To make them realize
This is my life
I hope they understand

I love this song too- the whole song is great. Esp for anyone who did not follow the path their parents had in mind for them (me:)

Pat Green - Who's to say

Yeah, who's to say and who are you to judge me anyway
This whole world spins, never gonna take that chance again
Yeah who's to say at how we got so lucky anyway
We have a home, neither one of us will ever be alone

It's a lesson of survival
To ride out every trial
It's the secret of forgiveness
Way down deep inside

Who's to say and who are you to judge me anyway
This is my road, I take the corner as fast as I can go
Yeah, who's to say at how I got so lucky anyway
I am my own at least until the angels come
Angels gonna come and take me home

MinnieMe--that's one of my FAVORITE songs.

There's a ship out on the ocean, at the mercy of the sea.
It's been tossed about, lost and broken, wandering aimlessly.
And god, you know that ship is me.
But there's a lighthouse in the harbor shining faithfully.
Pouring its light out across the waters for this sinking soul to see.
That someone out there still believes in me.
In a prayer, in a song I hear your voice and it keeps me hanging on.
Raining down, against the wind, I'm reaching out till we reach the circle's end and you come back to me again.

Every time I hear that song, I think of DMamaw who, especially as I got older and got married, really was my rock.

Fly me up to where you are
Beyond the distant star
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for awhile to know youre there
A breath aways not far
To where you are

Are you gently sleeping
Here inside my dream
And isnt faith believing
All power cant be seen

As my heart holds you
Just one beat away
I cherish all you gave me everyday
cause you are mine
Forever love
Watching me from up above

And I believe
That angels breathe
And that love will live on and never leave

That always reminds me of DH's DGrampa's funeral..it was playing on the radio as we left the service and were headed back to one of DH's aunt's for a post-funeral family reunion/4th of July party. DGrampa and DGramma were each other's true loves...you could see it in their eyes and the way they treated each other and the way she never gave up on him, even at the end when he no longer recognized anybody for very long.

Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call,
Wanted to sail upon your waters
since I was three feet tall.
You've seen it all, you've seen it all.

Watch the men who rode you,
Switch from sails to steam.
And in your belly you hold the treasure
that few have ever seen, most of them dreams,
Most of them dreams.

Yes, I am a pirate two hundred years too late.
The cannons don't thunder there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late.

Pirate looks at 40 - Jimmy Buffett

"..it's not having what you want , it's wanting what you got."
Sheryl Crowe
.

Such a good one!!!

Here's a few I love -

THE ROSE by BETTE MIDLER My fave verse is "It's the heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance."

a song by a friend of mine Mike Renna - MOMENT BY MOMENT - My fave verse is "moment by moment i feel the world rush in, slowly slipping away moment by moment time is a thief that makes off with today."

ANYWAY - By MARTINA MCBRIDE - My fave verse is "This world's gone crazy and it's hard to believe that tomorrow will be better than today Believe it anyway. You can love someone with all your heart, for all the right reasons, and in a moment they can choose to walk away Love em anyway"

another Martina song "In my daughters eyes" --- " I realize what life is all about. It's hangin' on when your heart has had enough; It's givin' more when you feel like givin' up. I've seen the light: it's in my daughter's eyes." AND "the truth is plain to see: She was sent to rescue me, I see who I wanna be, in my daughter's eyes."

Thats what I can think of for now.... I have kept a song blog for a few yrs now, and that's just a few from it :)

And leave tomorrow behind
(Gary Wright-Dream Weaver)

We were born before the wind
oh so younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won as we sail into the mystic
Hark now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic
(Van Morrison-Into the Mystic)

I don't mind spending everyday
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay a while
And she will be loved..
"She will be loved," Maroon 5

It just takes some time, little girl,
You're in the middle of the ride

And may your dreams be realized
If the thundercloud passes pain
So let it rain
Rain down on him
So let it be
"MLK," U2

These are the times to remember
Cuz they will not last forever
These are the days to hold onto
But we won't althought we'll want to
The exact name of the song escapes me, but it's by Billy Joel

Oh it's what you do to me,
Oh it's what you do to me,
Oh it's what you do to me,
Oh it's what you do to me,
What you do to me

Hey there Delilah,
I know times are getting hard
But just believe me girl,
Someday I'll pay the bills with this guitar
We'll have it good,
We'll have the life we knew we would
My word is good

Hey there Delilah,
I've got so much left to say,
If every simple song I wrote to you
Would take your breath away
I'd write it all,
Even more in love with me you'd fall
We'd have it all

I like to quote this one randomly -

'Just wait till tomorrow'
I guess that's what they all say
Just before they fall apart

From Regret by New Order

I think most everyone knows this one, it's one of my favorites:

WE GO ON

With the stillness of the night
there comes a time to understand
to reach out and touch tomorrow
take the future in our hand

We can see a new horizon
built on all that we have done
and our dreams begin another
thousand circles 'round the sun

We go on
to the joy and through the tears
We go on
to discover new frontiers
Moving on
with the current of the years

We go on
moving forward, now as one
Moving on
with a spirit born to run
Ever on
with each rising sun

To a new day
We go on

We go on
