I don't know if this has been done as I am pretty new here, but maybe we could give it a go. I think there is a lot I can learn from everyone, so if you have a tip or idea, I'd love to hear it. :listen:

Idea - When I scrap my Disney vacation, I always punch a mickey head and hide it somewhere on each page. My kids and family always love looking for the hidden Mickeys!

Hey! I think that's a great idea! :cool1: I'm going to have to steal that idea for my disney trip pages!

i've been racking my brain for a good tip/idea to share, but so far any inspiration has evaded me. surely someone else out there might have some other clever tips?

:flower:

I've been trying to do the same - except I don't always use a punched Mickey. So far I've done some Quilled Mickeys & used them and on a pool page I punched some circles to use as "bubbles" and I arranged a couple of them as a Mickey.

I keep hoping others start posting ideas here since I don't really have any of my own as I'm a newbie.

Heres a pretty dumb one - that I never thought of myself -
someone told me when they saw me trying to put a protector on my page and pushing and prodding at the lumpys -
when you have a bumpy and lump page instead of fighting to get it in the page protector or the page protector over all the stuff - put another piece of cardstock over the page - put it all in the protector then slide out the piece of cardstock that covered - VOILA - super quick and easy
:rolleyes1

I'm not sure how much of a tip this is, but I think one very important basic tool is a good pair of scissors. I recently purchased a pair of Cutterbee scissors, and I cannot belive how much better they work than my old pair. Ribbon cutting is a cinch, and the real point on these make it easier to cut letters and shapes.

Just my 2 cents!

I too am going to borrow that hidden mickey idea!! That is great, especially since I hope to have a picture of an actual hidden mickey on each page. Some mentioned a mickey punch..where would one find something like that????

So simple, but so smart...I use a lot of bumpy stuff and this will definitely help! :cool1:

I write the date(or time of year...fall, winter) and year in the bottom corner of all my pages. Being obsessive/compusive I need my pages in order. This helps me, plus then I know when things took place if it is not in my journaling.

Oh my gosh this is a way super cute Idea and I think I am definatly going to have to do that.

I really don't have any tips to share.

Well maybe here is one but you all have probably heard of it. You know how you border the pictures with paper, I take mine and punch out shapes with my punches towards the middle of that paper I am going to border with. Since you don't see the back of the paper, no one will be the wiser and that way you get more use out of it and some extra shapes from your punches.

I got my Mickey icon & walking Mickey at Michaels. They were the only 2 mine carries. You can also get them directly from All Night Media/Plaid On-line. http://www.plaidonline.com/productSearchResults.asp?cat1ID=11&cat2ID=33&cat3ID=113
I've ordered from them & been pleased with both product & service.

I bought the swirl Mickey head from them and it did not work correctly. And they immediately replaced it without seeing the defective part first. I would definitely buy from them again. :earsboy:

I second the cutterbees... DH bought them for me when they first came out (after a long waitlist at the LSS..) and I loooove them.. just have a second pair for sticky/gluey cutting.

Get organized! would be a good tip.. If you know where everything is, you'll spend a lot less time looking for stuff and more time working.. I wish I could be a scrapper that organized layouts ahead of time and then just stuck everything down in a seperate session.

Journaling:
Starting on new year's I started "pre-journaling" on 3x5 cards. Whenever there is an event and we take pictures, I take a few minutes to write about it on the 3x5 cards, usually at night before bed. I bought an index card holder and 3x5 tabbed dividers. When I go to scrap, I can just grab the corresponding 3x5 cards. It makes journaling soooo much easier! I even took a handful of cards on a trip with me, labeled them with the date and put them on the nightstand in the hotel so I wouldn't forget to keep up with it.

Heather, that's a great tip! I need to do that! I've got the stuff for a number of LOs cropped & matted, embellishments laid out with them, etc. All that's missing is the journaling. I need to find a way to limit my time at the computer when I'm supposed to be scrapping! (I keep getting sidetracked when I'm supposed to be typing up my journaling.) This should help.

Now if only I could find a way to streamline the selection of fonts!

Thanks!

Oh my goodness that is a GREAT idea. I have the hardest time with Journaling and this might help me get my thought in order.

I have lots of old photos to scrap. One thing I do is email family & freinds involved in the event & ask what they remember. I rewrite it in my handwriting, but I use their words. It has been fun to remember the past.

I'd never thought of this one -- what a concept. I'll definitely be using this one from now on. TFS!!!

With 4 kids' schedules to keep track of, my wall calendar is my daily bible... I keep track of everything on it, from when a kid lost a tooth, to playdates, kids' heights and weights, etc. Anything funny that happens (I might just jot down a few words to remember: Crazy Trip to i.e., Toys-R-Us) At the end of each month, I look at the calendar and compose an email to faraway family and friends that I don't get a chance to talk to on a daily basis. I have a lot of friends who have never met my kids but feel like they really "know" them and our family dynamic b/c of this. I like having that closeness. Plus a lot of them email me back about their lives. I save the emails and include them at the end of each year's scrapbook. There are so many memories in which only my heart can take a picture, because my camera's not there. (For example the Toys-R-Us refers to a hilarious sequence of events that happened one day when I took 4 kids under the age of 4 to that store!)....

This isn't my idea, but I thought I'd share. I've been reading people comment on some of the problems with temporary adhesives, and thought this might help.

"If your adhesive has you stuck in knots, never fear. Some refillable adhesive holders can become gummed up with time and use, but it's easy to get you rolling again. Wipe the gears with some Goo Gone or UnDu. Some holders - hermafix, for example - will even let you pull the gears out so they can be soaked in some of the solvent (a baby
food jar works well for this). Wipe clean, reassemble, and you're good to go again."

This is common sense and kinda basic, but thought I'd add, especially for those thinking about starting.... Organize your photos and find a system to keep them in order for an easier time scrapping. Some ideas on this topic:

Some folks make double prints of everything (so family and friends can enjoy and the pics are organized quicker) and then place one set in an album and then scrap the other set.

I read an article in a magazine or maybe it was in a tip column where some people place the negatives in an envelope in the back and that envelope is glued on the back cover.

I've also read about prejournaling with index cards, too. That really saves time.

Also, I've read how some scrappers make a special collection of supplies for their kids with extras, leftovers, and basic supplies (ie Costco-brand cardstock or WM items rather than pricier stuff like Bazzill papers). That keeps the craft alive and as a fun family activity.

:)
