Favorite Playgrounds

One of the changes to WDW since my last visit has been the additions of playground areas in (I think) all the theme parks. Designed for the little tykes, these attractions include the likes of Pooh's Playful Spot, Donald's Boat, The Bone Yard, Honey I Shrunk the Playground and the Viking ship in Norway.

Which are your favorites?
Which should be avoided?
Which ones did I neglect to mention?

DS really enjoyed The Boneyard at AK and Honey I Shrunk the Kids at MGM. My only complaint is I thought in both places it was hard to keep a close eye on your kids.

My daughter, at the time she was 3, really enjoyed the play area in ToonTown. We could take her there and then either the wife or I could take my son on a bigger ride.

I noticed the viking ship this past June. Is it new? I never noticed it before and I thought it was pretty cool!

The boneyard is fun, but unless they changed it, you need to be careful around the dig site. The sand at the edge of the concrete areas is very slippery. I've seen kids and adults fall hard at this area. Also the play areas that squirt water are fun.

Honey I Shrunk the Playground and the Boneyard are so unique that you should definitely try to include them if time permits. We've got great pictures of DD riding the ant at Honey I Shrunk..., which is her favorite. But other posters are right -- it's sooooo hard to keep track of them in those two playgrounds!

I think I read somewhere -- maybe on these boards -- that they've redone the Viking ship and it's not a play area anymore, but I could be wrong.

The previous poster is correct. The viking ship is no longer a playground. My dd8 really enjoyed the Honey I shrunk the kids playground. I wandered through it for a bit but once i had had it scoped out , i waited for her by the entrance/exit and gave her some free time for herself. Also though its not technically a playground, My daughter enjoyed building stuff at the LEGO store in DTD

Great thread. I'm taking notes for when my 2 year old needs a break. She loved the little playground in the DTD Lego Store last year - it was perfect for us because the boys (8 and 11 at the time) were able to build lego and right next to that was the playground for the smallies so it suited everyone.

The Honey I Shrunk the Kids playset is hard to keep track of your kids. For my older children (7 & 6), I just tell them that no one is to leave the attraction and they have to come find me to check in.

Another play area is the toy store in England. There is a Thomas train table set up there. My ds usually likes to spend ALOT of time playing with it while we are there.

Really?? What is it now?? I remember the ship, but obviously don't remember enough to know what it was used for.

Donad's boat is really cute for a hot day because of the water jets. I also liked the slide area that is fenced in right in front of Donald's boat. It was very easy to keep an eye on them.

Pooh's Playful Spot and Ariels Grotto.

There's a nice playstructure in the Mission Space building. Makes a good spot for a kid to play while adults go on Mission Space.

The Honey I Shrunk the Kids playset is hard to keep track of your kids. For my older children (7 & 6), I just tell them that no one is to leave the attraction and they have to come find me to check in.

Not sure about some of the other playgrounds, but HISK has only one entrance and one exit (and you can't go out the entrance - a CM is there to make sure) so if your kids are old enough to run around the playground by themselves you can post yourself at the exit to make sure they don't leave without you.
