Favorite place to watch sail away?

We'll be on the Dream for the first time in October. My husband and I are doing a 4 night Canada cruise out of NYC. We've been on the Magic and Fantasy before. We don't enjoy the sail away parties in general. We usually like to get a drink and find someplace relaxing to watch it from. Any recommendations? We don't care if it's outside or inside with a nice view.

I can't speak where to watch in particular but I can comment on which side of the ship to be on, depending what view you would like at sailaway. For the Manhattan skyline, stay on the port side of the ship. For the Statue of Liberty, stay starboard.

Meridian. The bar may not yet be open (i.e., staffed - the door should be open) when you sail away, but there is outside areas on the left and right of the bar which get great views. You can just hear the party music faintly. There have been a couple of times when the bar was staffed and we were able to get a drink (this was on the Fantasy but it's the same layout) but I can't recall what time that was. I think it was after the party but just before pulling away from the dock. Both external areas of Meridian are smoking areas but there's almost never anyone there. Sometimes we just get a drink from the top deck bar and go to our balcony or we have a bottle of champagne waiting for us when we board, but Meridan - if we're on the right ship - is our favourite.
