The wife asked what’s another good choice not in a park. (Arrival day) (besides ohana as I’m struggling to get one there)

Wife and I (34), 5yr old boy, 1yr old girl , in laws 62.

Boatrights at POR is good, Sanna at AKL Kindani and Boma I have heard are good (going to Sanna this trip for the first time so no first hand knowledge) there are a ton in DS. What kind of food are you looking for?

I was just going to say, Boatwrights. We ate there last trip when we were staying at POR, and we loved it. We also then stayed and watched a movie on the lawn, where Disney provided free popcorn and the girls got to watch Frozen. It was honestly one of the best nights we had on that trip. The food at Boatwrights was delicious, kid friendly and served in a reasonable time. We will definitely be back, both to POR and the restaurant.

Have you tried the Touring Plans ADR finder tool? I just got my preferred ‘Ohana about 37 days out that way.

Either Boma or Jiko. Boma if we are looking for something casual. Jiko is typically where we go if we have something we are celebrating. With the ages of your ids I would probably recommend Boma - they have a wide variety of unique dishes but also have the typical WDW buffet foods for kids or adults who aren't as adventurous. We always have a great meal and excellent service at Boma, plus it's fun to then walk around the resort and see all the animals on the savanna.

With a 5 year old boy's first night at Disney I'd go for something fun:
Hoop de Doo (Ft Wilderness)
Whispering Canyon (Wilderness Lodge)
Chef Mickey's (Contemporary)

Raglan Road, Disney Springs, good food, music & dancing

Olivia’s at Old Key West, relaxing casual atmosphere, good steak and some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had.

Turf Club at Saratoga, awesome prime rib & lamb, nicer but still casual.

T-Rex at Disney Springs, huge portions, decent food, a bit dark but my son loved it, maybe yours would too

Id also suggest the Whispering Canyon Cafe with your 5yo. He will probably enjoy the antics.

We also like Cape May Cafe if you are seafood lovers.

Ohana with Boma running a close 2nd. Boma is nice because you can eat then take the 5 year old outside to look at the animals.

I agree, something fun on your first night would be awesome for your 5 year old. All of the above are good choices. Mind you, Chef Mickeys is a lot of fun, but dont expect gourmet food there and you'll be fine.
In Disney Springs Raglan Road has irish step/celic dancers. So fun to watch, and I like the food. TREX also has a great atmosphere. But to get a reservation you'll have to call them directly as they dont release that many to the disney reservation system (MDE). So you wont have any luck with MDE.

Anything at AKV...

Boma is a great buffet and the price is reasonable (no characters)...
Sanaa is delicious and if you get a table by the window, you have a ground-level view of the savanna...
Jiko is more adult-oriented, but the food is exceptional....

...and the resort itself has plenty to do and explore for both kids and adults so there will be plenty to do both before and after dinner.

I'd say keep trying for Ohana dinner as that would be great for all members of your family.

If not, then your child would love chef mickeys at CR (characters/buffet). We adults always enjoyed it too because it was so much fun for our kids.

BOMA at AKL is a great meal too. Somewhat adventurous food. Fun to walk around the resort afterward too.

If sports is your thing, then ESPN club on boardwalk is fun.

If you just want diner-type food with ice cream after, then beaches and cream is good at the BC.

If you're looking for a more signature type meal, there are lots. At CR we like California grill, Jiko at AKL, artist point at WL, yachtsman steakhouse at YC, narcoossees at GF, flying fish on boardwalk.

California Grill
Jiko
il Mulino
If money is no object, Victoria and Alberts
