Favorite Flower Show

When I did the thread about "this or that," I was stumped in one place. I just realized that I'm neither a catalog or garden center groupie, but I love FLOWER SHOWS!

My favorite is the Philadelphia Flower Show, with Cincinnati coming in a very close second.

Are there others who enjoy Flower Shows?

I do!!

The largest flower show we go to is held in Toronto each year. It's a very big deal, and they always have the most fabulous displays, and lots of contests to enter. They also have a huge marketplace area.

I put up some pics from last year's show, and when search is working, I'll add the link to this thread. It would be nice (and uplifting) to see some of the presentations again!

Actually, it was at the Philadelphia Flower Show that I first saw a clivia, and "knew" I had to have one. My blooms haven't been up to par, but I think that the new orchid mix for the roots is helping.

The show is in very early March, Bobbi. I would need a greenhouse or something, to be able to enter anything. Perhaps if they had a "Hostess of Death" for houseplants category, I could win something!

They had some beautiful orchid displays at the show!

We enjoy going to the flow show and competition at the New York State Fair. Roses, Galdiolus, Dahlias and all manner of cut flowers are exhibited and judged.

Perhaps our favorite part of the show is the Design Division. Contestants are given a theme and they submit arrangements against that theme. There is also a placesetting competition, with its own theme. Both are just fascinating. We like to go after the judges have made their awards and comments. It's really neat to come up with our own views of the arrangements and then read the judges comments to see if we noticed the same things they did.

The Fair also has quite a few gardens that are maintained by local gardening clubs. They are always a lovely place to escape the hustle and bustle of the Fair.

Great great pictures, Kim! I was in NJ over the holidays and heard ads for the Philadelphia Flower show, it's in March, and I'm trying to figure out if I can get there. Cincy's is later, April or May, because it's outdoors and under huge tents.

Oldkicker, I especially like a contest in which people create beatiful works of art, out of seeds, petals what-nots. I've not been to Ohio's state fair, but I have been to NJ's it used to be held in Hamilton Township, where I taught. In fact, they used to give the students 1/2 day free tickets and so schools were let out early. This was when I first began teaching, and it was in Sept., a good way to start the new year.

Every March Massachusetts host the Boston Flower Show.

It a great show, but over the years I've noticed there seem to be more and more natural landscaping displays. Beautiful ideas, but I love flowers, bulbs, annuals and perennials. There never seems to be enough annual displays.

RI also has a Flower Show in February, thought I may try this show for the first time also.

February 19-22 for the RI Show

March 15-23 for the New England Flower Show

The only F&G show I've been to is the NW Flower & Garden show in February. It's really beautiful and pretty incredible how they transform the convention center into a beautiful oasis.

Will anyone be going to Epcot's Flower and Garden Show? We're going for a weekend, May 1 and 2.

Bernie, are your observations usually in sync with the judges?

You'll be back from your trip just in time for the RI show, right Mamu?

I could be a judge!

I'm usually spot on with their descriptions! I notice when part of the arrangement isn't to scale with the rest of it (too big or too small), or when the color just isn't right, or when the materials used just don;t work well together.

It's a gift!

I'll have to remember your "gift" if we do another container challenge this summer!
