Favorite DL Store?

Le Bat en Rouge!!!! Cause I am a nightmare freak, though I miss when it use to be up front :(

Disneyana is a given with all the collectables!

Jewel of Orleans this is reminiscent of the old shops that use to fill MS and NOS, it is a privately owned (non-Disney) jewelry shop that specializes in Antique pieces. I could spend all day there trying on the shiny pieces!!!

I also really want to go and get a grown up silouette piece they are so cool! My mom still has ours from when we were kids. One of the ladies was at the Renaissance Faire and she was soooooo nice!

And am I the only one who misses the old stuff the shop in Adventureland use to sell right in front of JC? I loved the old shrunken heads, creepy snakes and other funky creatures that were great to scare your little sister with!!!! :rotfl:

Absolutely! I loved doing that! It never had anything to do with DL but I loved it! :rotfl:

Didn't have anything to do with DL???

I thought it was all about the stuff you saw on JC and now could take home. Like "Arts and Crafts" :rotfl:

Candy Palace is one of the last places I visit on every trip. (Depending on what they are making each day, I often visit more than once a trip! ;) ;) )
Pieces of Eight is a must every trip! And the shop with all of the home items, mugs and foods, they also have coffee...can't remember the name. I love collecting mugs and Disney-shaped pasta is always a treat once we are back home!

I like the sword/heraldry shop in Fantasyland. Some of the stuff is really cool to look at and the suit of armor in front is a great photo op.

Oh ya, I love this shop too!! It's so cool to walk thru. DBF always looks in the book to find his name. LOL

I love browsing around Off the Page. I haven't been there in a while though... Do artists still draw there?

And in DL, I like the Emporium because, well, it's got mostly everything you want there :)

Off the Page, yes they do! :) When we were there in Jan. (when we said HI!) they had artist drawing a couple of the times we walked thru. It was cool, and much less crowded than watching in the watch shop on MS.

Yeah, we've seen the artists several times in the last few months. But what is the deal with the artists? Can you buy one of their drawings? One time when we were there someone standing next to the artist looking through a book and I got the impression that maybe he was picking out what picture he wanted drawn? :confused3

Yep, you get to pick what character(s) you want them to draw from the big binder that they have on the podium behind their desk. What the artists basically do is trace the character. The CMs do have to be VERY artistic and I believe have to submit a portfolio when they apply, they just trace so it can be an exact replica of the Disney character.

I actually want to get DBF a Stitch drawing from there for our anniversary.

How much is it?

You know what? I'm not quite sure. I want to say $30something for one character. It's extra if you want a second character. But I'm not positive if that's right.

Thanks PPB for the info! I've always been curious about it but have never asked the artists when I see them because I wasn't sure how to ask without sounding stupid. "so, what are you doing here?" or "are you selling those drawings?" just doesn't sound right, so thanks for finally giving me my explaination. :goodvibes

Yes, thank you for that info! I had no idea what they were doing either and felt the same way as LP about asking! :upsidedow

She's right...I think it was 30 for one and it gets higher the more you add. I didn't know they trace...we watched her draw and it certainly didn't look like it was just her tracing it so if that is the case they hide it well! They also have some that have been predrawn for sale if you dont/cant wait for yours to be done but we didn't find any hugely popular characters ready to go. :)

You're very welcome guys!!! :goodvibes Next time you go, check it out! They have a sign right by where they are drawing that has the prices. Look through the binder too! They have pretty much every Disney character. It's really neat to watch the CMs draw because they're very talented! :thumbsup2

What medium do they use? Regular pencils? Colored?:confused3

Yeah! We were watching a CM draw an Alice and she had like a light underneath at her table (if that makes sense?) and she was tracing the Alice. She had her outline done and I could see through the paper to the Alice she was tracing. I think they just trace the outlight of the character though, then add the detail and shading on their own.

I want to say colored pencils?

SleeplessKnight here on the Dis had a really awesome picture of Sleeping Beauty he got at Off the Page. I think he posted it on one of his TRs.

My favorite shops at DL are Disneyana and after our trip last month, the China Closet. The manager of the China Closet was so kind to my DD and her DF when they became engaged at DL. She arranged for a photographer and gave them a beautiful Cinderella coach from the shop. :goodvibes

At DCA, I like Off the Page.

How sweet! I love Disney engagement stories. princess:
