Favorite Crew Member?

We too had Gregor as our Asst server back in March, nicest guy on the ship. I know he was engaged And was getting marriewd soon. He also was preparing to be a lifeboat captain, he would tellus stories at dinner about how his training for the day went. ONe day he confessed that he ran his lifeboat into the side of the MAgic! We also loved our head server, who was from Jamaica, Liam, who professed to be a party animal on his off hours, with a taste for Jack Daniels. We bought him a small bottle in St. Thomas and gave it to him as a present to remember us by!

On occasions more rare than finding embroidered napkins at a vegetarian cannibal dinner buffet along the south coast of Botswana, we are blessed to meet someone (or, in our case, sometwo) who "raise the standard" of humanity and human kindness. Yes, it is none other than Rishi and Zama!

I will always appreciate the kindness:

of their smiles as we entered one of three remarkable restaurants for an even more remarkable dining experience (Yes, my dear Rishi, better than "excellent");

of Rishi's dinner recommendations so incredibly sincere that one can only wonder if he even knows how to "push the less desirable stuff;"

of Zama's knowledge of my beverage preferences better than my ex before I had an ex;

of recommending the next day's ship events and shore insights for no other reason than our own enjoyment.

Rishi and Zama made our Disney vacation a truly magical escapade! How? By being themselves.

Honorable mention must be given, however, to Irvin - our stateroom maven - and Jeanette from South Africa - the best masseuse I've had the pleasure to meet.

There have been way too many wonderful crew members to count, but a few that stand out in my mind:

Zita from Hungary in Palo, she is absolutely top-notch. Maurizio in Palo as well, the kindest gentleman you'd ever want to meet.

The crew in Sessions, although they change often, has always gone WAY above and beyond with us. Since this lounge is less crowded we get to know the staff well and they greet us by name, as we like to hang out there.

Claude was the BEST stateroom host I've ever had, and they ALL have been excellent. He was like a GHOST, he'd be in and out of the room in a heartbeat and left it in perfect condition.

Many of the other wonderful crew members that I remember are now gone. Honestly, the outstanding crew members WAY WAY outnumber the few that are just average. That's the DCL difference. :)

John, Ian, April - all of the cruise staff! I swear they must have come on board at least 20 pounds heavier than they are now. They are constantly on the move dancing, running, dancing, singing, joking!

They really made the trip enjoyable. It was wonderful running into them everywhere, it was like we were seeing friends!

I didn't meet April but John, Ian and Sean were great. We also had Ellen, Jessica and Mariska (spelled wrong). They are the reason we rebooked for next summer. Do the crew members generally return or is there alot of turnover on the ship?

I would say there is a fairly good amount of turnover...in our 6 DCL cruises we have seen the cruise staff change many times. Ellen was new to the cruise staff on our 8/3 cruise. She worked in another department and moved to cruise staff.

Kylie from the cruise staff left
Robin from the cruise staff left (8/3 was his last cruise but not sure if it was for good or just vacation)
Powell from the cruise staff left
Mary Jo from the cruise staff left

There were a few more that left but I can't remember their names.

remember Alistair from Trinidad. His station was the Promenade Lounge. This goes back to The Magic in 2001. He sure could make an outrageous Mississippi Mudslide and had wonderful artistic talents decorating each one for me!I haven't had one since that has met his standards.!:( He also had some great fishing stories to tell.;)

We've done 4 cruises with another scheduled for November. Here are our favorites:

Dining Room:

David (England)
Marika

Programming:

Natalie - she's great; hosted Art of Entertaining
Richie - he's just wild

Captain:

Captain Hans

We know Capt. Hans is gone, but we hope to see some of our favorites in Nov.

We've had so many magical experiences with CM's on our two (so far) Disney cruises. Many of them have been named in other posts here on this thread, but the most special experience for us was when we cruised this past January and Oceanear's Lab CM Vivi remembered our daughter from a cruise that we had taken nearly 2 years earlier. Here is a link to my thank you thread:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=155113

We have been blessed with wonderful cabin stewards and servers and are looking forward to cruising on the Disney Wonder in the next couple of months where we expect to meet a whole new batch of WONDERful CM's.

From my Aug 2000 cruise I remember Vlado from Croatia. He was adorable and at the time was a assistant server with a gentleman named Chedomir from Croatia as well. I would have liked to wrap him up and take him home. I hope he is the one that is working in Palos now. I have about six pictures of him in my album from that cruise.

Don't you just hope some of the people we are mentioning get to read these threads. I second the comment of Claude being the best stateroom attendant - he was amazing. David (from England)was our server for our second cruise with Anita and they were both superb. Our head server, Christofe, had been in charge of Palos the year before and remembered us!
Don't think Mary Jo (from Canada) has left. I think she is now high up in merchandising - she was such a honey and tried hard to keep my secret of rebooking a cruise from my mum. Unfortunately Christofe let the cat out of the bag!

Carita from Palo's was wonderful we went and requested her three times on our last cruise. Loved Robin, the bingo king. I'm sorry to hear he's left. Hopefully it is just for a short vacation!

Jean from France! what a sense of humor.
Vlado at Palos was recomended by Jean and he was great!
My wife took a shine to Ian so I'm not going to coment.:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Sasha Sasic from Croatia! Hands down!

(there is more than one Sasha from Croatia; as I learned from Inkognito)

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

We had EXCELLENT service onboard the Magic on 9/7 Eastern Cruise.

Our favorites were our Dining Room Servers Ronald (from India) and Milan (from Serbia) and our Stateroom Host Luis.

Of course Ian and John were adorable and seemed to be having the time of their life!

Martina and Tina at Shutters were super sweet too.

:D :Pinkbounc :jester:

I second everything in Buckaroo's Dad's post!! Rishi and Zama were the greatest. Our cabin steward Anastasia was fantastic, too. They all added a little bit of magic to our cruise.

I just wanted to make a few comments. So, it sounds like Sean was new to calling bingo on my cruise if Robin (who was great at this) had just left. In addition, it sounds like Ellen had just arrived as well. I am putting different responses together here.....I think that Disney Cruise line should be reading these responses so that the crew members who have made our trip special will get recognition. What do you think?????:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Robin was the king of bingo, but that's not say he was the only one hosting it. Even when Robin was onboard somethimes other people hosted bingo. All the cruise staff rotates and hosts different shows at different times.

For example: On our 2/23/02 cruise John hosted Match your Mate and on our 8/3/02 cruise Sean did. It all depends if they have that show scheduled or not. They do get a few hours off each week!!!!

I think I read someone's post that now April is part of the cruise staff. Always changing.

After every cruise I send a letter to DCL mentioning specific CM's who made our trip great. That's why the comments cards are so important to fill out as well. DCL really does read them.
