I am considering going away with my hubby for a couple days, leaving my kids in Orlando with family in June. Any great romantic or highly active places to visit 3- 4 hours away from Orlando? Love the beach, kayaking, sailing, private islands.

Any ideas?

Come on down to Naples. Beautiful white beaches where you can rent water toys or just relax. World class dining and shopping.

We went to Anna Maria island last month. Its a little over 2 hours from Orlando. Seemed like a quiet little island compared to a lot of the beach areas and it was really pretty.

I've been to Siesta Key before and Marco Island, what is Anna Maria like compared to those?

Beach? crowds? traffic? resturants?

Quiet sounds nice.

Comparatively Siesta Key is VERY crowded. Plus quite honestly the 2 times we were at Siesta Key beach it smelled a little like sewage, which was probably decomposing seaweed or something but I didn't like the smell or the insane crowds. Anna Maria is just less touristy and not famous so less crowded. I have not been to Marco Island so can't compare. If I were looking for a romantic getaway Anna Maria is the type of place I would choose but I would not choose Siesta Key.

I've been to St Augustine and it is lovely so am leaning towards an island so will look into those.

I'm going to see about finding a nice hotel to stay at and see which one is the nicest resort for best price.

We love Anna Maria island. It has a relaxed beach vibe and the free trolley is neat. There is nothing like those Gulf coast sunsets. We have enjoyed the following restaurants: Sandbar (feet in the sand, expensive), Havana cabana, Ginny and Jane e's, Peaches, Tortilla Bay.

OMG we had cinnamon rolls at Ginny and Jane E's, they were sooooo good! Cutest little store/restaurant I have seen in a long time.
