Favorite Children's Books?

When your baby gets a little older (like toddler/preschool age) my kids have loved Kevin Henkes books!

Also "Make Way for Ducklings" and "Blueberries for Sal" by Robert McCloskey
"The Little House" by Virginia Lee Burton
"Ox Cart Man" Donald Hall

The 20th Century Children's Book Treasury!

It's a huge collection of stories, with ones that will appeal to very young children and others for older children. There's short stories and longer ones, and even some for beginning readers.

And because it's all in one book, it's easy to pack and bring along.

This book followed us everywhere. When my son was two and had to go into the hospital to get his dental surgery, I brought this book. I read to him for hours from it! :lovestruc

Lots of good books mentioned in this thread.:)

My two-year old grandson loves Maurice Sendak books:

Chicken Soup With Rice (his favorite book!)
Pierre
Where the Wild Things Are
In the Night Kitchen
Little Bear

He also loves the "Carl" books by Alexandra Day;

Good Dog, Carl
Carl Goes Shopping
Carl's Birthday
Carl's Afternoon in the Park
Carl's Christmas

The "Carl" books have gorgeous pictures and very few words. The adventures of the dog and the baby absolutely delight my grandson!

When my own kids were younger, they loved the Berenstein Bears series and Little Critter series. My youngest was also a huge fan of the "Carl" books.

As a really young kids I loved Richard Scary's Oh What a Busy Day. I don't know why but I just liked it. Weird I know.:upsidedow

I loved this book too as a child.

I also love Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney. It has terrific pictures and a nice message about making the world a more beautiful place.

And to Think that it Happened on Mulberry Street.

Amazing that 29 publisher passed on it.

The books I rember liking the most when I was young was Harold and the Purple Crayon.

The Monster At The End Of This Book
Because A Little Bug Went Ka-Choo

A lot of the obvious ones have been mentioned, but how about Night of the Moonjellies. Very nice story.

How cool! We received a gift set of Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Stories!! I had forgotten that I read those to the kids. They got packed when we moved and I don't know that I've unpacked them yet!

I'm also a huge Trixie Belden fan - I'm working on getting my 10 year old hooked, and her sister will be right behind her!

Great books, aren't they? :goodvibes

Several people have mentioned "The Velveteen Rabbit".. While I personally love that book, it made my youngest DD cry.. She's 38 yrs. old now and if she even sees the book, her eyes tear up..
