Favorite children's book?

Don't let the Pigeon drive the Bus! by Mo Willems. I read this book to each grade K-8 during a school book fair. It was popular with all grades. Many of the kids bought it for their parents to read for/to them, and I purchased 3 books per class for all the teachers. Yes, I love the book that much!

One fish two fish red fish blue fish
Any llama llama books
If you give a mouse a cookie
Winnie the pooh
The very hungry caterpillar

Anything Eric Carle or Leo Lionni

Make Way for Ducklings

Click Clack Moo, Cows That Type

Olivia

Little Miss Spider

The Fourteen Bears in Summer and Winter. I think it's out of print, but I know it's not hard to find used. I remember being mesmerized as a kid by the pictures and by the fact that it was one of those books where the first story read like a regular book and then to read the second story, you had to flip the book over and go the opposite direction.

Also, the the baby is a girl, any of the "Frances" books by Russel Hoban.

I have a 2 year old and an almost 4 year old.

The favorites were and still are:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar which is the favorite of my 2 year old. The one my DSiL got him has been well loved by both boys and for his birthday we got him the pop-up version and that is all he wants us to read to him every day (many many times). Even my 3 year old loves it.

Goodnight Moon

How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight (they love this at bedtime every knight)

Goodnight Moon, Runaway Bunny

Green Eggs and Ham, Cat in the Hat

Curious George series

The Little Engine that Could

Frog and Toad books (for school age kids)

Harry the Dirty Dog series

Madeline books

And so many more! I miss my kids being little.

My Friend Harry - my VERY favorite - the illustrations are just beautiful!

Dr. Seuss
If You Give A Mouse A Cookie (and all the others)
The Kissing Hand (before Kindergarten)
Patricia Polacco books
SO MANY BOOKS....SO LITTLE CHILDHOOD TIME!

The Panda Palace is a great counting book. My kids are older now, but we still recite the lines from the book.

Also, for early elementary kids, the entire Magic Treehouse series by Mary Pope Osbourne.

Right now my son(just turned 2)'s favorite book is "Heads" by Matthew Van Fleet. It's a pull tab book that's safe for toddlers.

He also loved "Goodnight Moon".

Ditto most of what other people have said, just wanted to add for preschool age kids:

Paper Bag Princess - Robert Munsch (esp for girls)
Tacky the Penguin - Helen Lester
Charlie the Caterpillar by Dom DeLuise

Very good messages in those three stories!

DD's favorites as a baby (and still now at 2.5) are the lift-the-flap Karen Katz books. They're all "Where is Baby's.....". Every new baby gift I get, we get one of her books for DD to give to the new baby.

She has some older, non-board books for the toddler/preschooler set that DD's really getting into now too. We checked out the Babies on the Bus from the library and have had to read it for every nap & bed time for the past two weeks (and are renewing it for another two).

Make Way for Ducklings - a wonderful classic

Anything by Doreen Cronin. We especially love "Click, Clack, Moo...Cows that Type". Farmer Brown's cows find a typewriter in the barn and use it to send messages to the farmer demanding electric blankets.SIZE]

Click, Clack MOO was always one of my kids' favorites too, - we love to give it as a present.

Also have to second the recommendations for Make Way for Ducklings and the Fourteen Bears (out of print, but available used - we are lucky enough to still have my copy from my childhood). All of Hoban's "Frances" books are lovely too.

A few others I have not seen listed yet:

Richard Scarry's Cars and Trucks and Things that Go

Richard Scarry's Best Storybook Ever!

Miss Jaster's Garden (Sadly, again, out of print, and hard to find, but oh so worth it...)

The House at Pooh Corner

Brown Bear was a huge hit with my daughter. She also really likes this book Tuck Me In!

Anything by Sandra Boynton - our favs by her are The Barnyard Dance and The Belly Button Book. We also like Llama Llama Red Pajama. Goodnight Moon, Guess How Much I Love You...

I could go on forever and ever. ;)
