I just got my first smart phone and am interested in app recommendations. What are your favorites?

Well, I can't wait for my Droid Incredible to die so I can get an iPhone...I hate the Android marketplace (called Google Play now or something)...

Shazaam is good, it will listen and identify songs.
Flixster is also nice, for looking up movie theatre times, movie reviews, etc.

That is about all I use now! I got tired of how practically anyone could put out an app for something so I hardly download anything anymore. 99% of the apps out there are crappy. Apple's apps are much more controlled and polished. I do have a few others like Redbox, Starbucks, Safeway, etc.

-Shazam
-Slacker Radio
-Pandora
-Angry Birds
-Front Flip
-Words with Friends

I have a droid, and have had one since August 2011.

Some of my favs are:

Amazon MP3
Draw Free
Facebook for Android
Fooducate
Fruit Ninja
Gas Buddy
Songza
Pandora (I like Sonza better, less ads)
GPS Tracker (good for tracking your teenager and DH ;-)
Merriam-Webtser Dictionary Free
MyWeather
SongPop
Words With Friends
Hanging With Friends
Bejewled
Fit Wiz
Calorie Counter

I'm happy with the " Google Play Store" of apps and do not compare it to Apple's apps - just like I don't compare apples to oranges. ;) I do use ITunes on our home computer and laptops so I am familiar with what they offer, and like them also.

One thing I do find helpful with the Amazon MP3 app is you can purchase a song using the app, or on Amazon.com on your computer, save it to a "cloud drive", download it to your computer, and import it into ITunes in less time than it takes to blink your eye (well not really, but pretty quick). Then you can play your purchased-from-Amazon song in ITunes software, transfer to your Apple products and so on. I don't believe it is as easy to purchase from Apple and use the songs everywhere else. Just a thought ...and many of the songs are pennies cheaper from Amazon.

Enjoy your new phone - mine (HTC Glacier) is akin to having a mini-computer in my hand that I can also make calls on

I just got my first smart phone and am interested in app recommendations. What are your favorites?

You will love the Android platform. One of the things I love is all the power cords are the same. They don't try to rip you off like Apple does - every time something is upgraded you need to buy all new accessories. My power cord works for my GPS, Kindle, the phone, my camera. When you leave on vacation you just need one power cord for everything.

My favorite apps are

Cozi - calendar that is shared by the family - you can set it up to send text messages to remind each family member of an appointment. Helps that the kids can look and see if they are available without checking with Mom.
