Hi! :goodvibes

We are thinking of staying at a Moderate hotel and I was just wondering what your favourite is?

We've only stayed at Pop, the kids want to stay there again, but I would like a change!

Thanks!

Same situation here... I've heard Port Orleans Riverside is nice - and clean.

But I am leaning towards Coronado Springs, as it was recently refurbished and all beds are now Queen Size.

I like Port Orleans French Quarter. I like the charm and the easy access to Riverside. I also liked the boat to downtown Disney.

We like CBR, we've stayed at PO (it was called Dixie Landings then so going back a few years) & still prefer CBR.

I like both CBR and POR. CBR has recently gotten a refirb with rooms and main pool which looks quite nice. We stayed there pre refirbs.
Had a great location in Jamaica.

We just stayed at POR-Riverside in Aug and loved it. Another great location in Magnolia Terrace. I love the theming of the mansion section.
POR has a boat to DTD, Carriage Rides, and evening entertainment in River Roost Lounge. Bob Jackson puts on a great show for children and adults both.

I'd check out the resort pics and just pick the theming that appeals to you.
Allears.net has loads of pics.

We stayed in CBR last year (was just renovated) and LOVED IT! The kids loved the pirate pool and the casual theme. We stayed in a standard room with some minor Nemo theme to it, but there are also pirate-themed rooms that look really fun!

We were leaning toward CSR this year, but needed a 1/2 marathon hotel so it was out. THe new renovations, queen beds, and central air (v/s the wall units which can be loud) were big appeals. I believe I read that the pool is having some work done right now, so you might want to check and see when it will be done based on your trip.

I looked into POR for the marathon, but it has been a while since it was renovated. Some ppl have said the rooms are really showing their age while others say they are in good shape. Guess it depends on the room/building and how often it has been used over the years. The food options and boat to DTD looked great as did the possibility of a trundle bed since our kids do not sleep in the same bed well, lots of kicking, falling out, and screaming in the night.

Really, I think any choice you make you cannot go wrong. Have fun planing and a great time on the trip.

And you can always modify/change your resort. I have changed mine 8 times. :rotfl2:

Picking a resort can be harder than it looks... think it might have been better before I found the DIS board and kept reading and reading and looking at pictures and second guessing myself. :rotfl:

Port Orleans Riverside. Even when we were DVC members I still preferred this resort. I would rather stay there than a deluxe I like it that much:goodvibes

I have only stayed at POR and CSR but loved them both. They are all so different in their themes you should probably just view some pictures and see what appeals most. POR has a really good food court and the boat to DTD is really nice. CSR has a really big pool and hot tub as well as queen beds but I found that their food court has gone way downhill from our last visit. CBR has a new pool area but it looks like it's geared more for smaller kids. We really liked POP also but my kids prefer the moderates because they offer pool slides and hot tubs and we spend a fair amount of time at the resort.

I'll second that! (though we've never been DVC members.....but we did visit the Contemporary, the GF and the Poly on our Jan. 2009 visit, and we ALL agreed that the only one we'd ever consider staying at over POR would be the Poly).

We love, love, LOVE  Port Orleans Riverside!!! :thumbsup2

So I have stayed at POFQ & POP and I have to say I didn't see too much of a difference between the 2. The room was not that much bigger and was still of the same quality.
We are looking at trying the CSR for our upcoming trip. We are currently booked at POP again, but I really want to try a different resort on every trip. However, my kids are little, which make me think we should just stay at POP for another year or two before they start having more wants.

My DD and I have stayed at CB and POR. Of the two we much preferred POR, but Pop remains our number one choice and are booked there again twice this year. When we go to WDW we like to be totally immersed in all things Disney and we found the 2 mods. to be lacking in this, actually a little boring, not to mention the extra $$.

We have stayed at the values and the mods. I realized last year that the mods are more to my liking. I really prefer that slightly better room decor. My fav mod is POFQ. I really like how small the resort is and the theme feels a little more luxurious. After seeing pics of the rehab at CSR I'm rather tempted to stay there again though.

A good compromise to please both kids and adults might be the pirate rooms at CBR.

The pool area at cbr is awesome in my opinion. My son is 3 & loved the gated in toddler area. My DH & I could sit & relax while he ran around in the pool & we could always see him. There are water slides at the big pool too & my son loved them as well but we always had to stay with him so no relaxing for us which was fine but being able to relax while your child runs around is a bonus to us. We'd stay at CBR just for the pool alone.

As for not being totally submerged in Disney stuff, I think that's the point of the mods. My parents have no interest in staying at the values because of the amount of theming geared to kids. My parents are 65 so I don't blame them & I also don't like to be sensory overloaded by Disney at Disney 24/7 so the mods take that out of it somewhat which is perfect for us. Sometimes it's good to get away from all that for us. But that is our personal preference.

Thanks for the advice!

We have booked the Carribean Beach Resort, I wanted to stay at POR, but I was out numbered!!! ;) Looks like a great resort!

I have stayed at the Port Orleans and my girls loved the pool, but honestly besides the slide in the pools I did not find much of a difference between the value and moderates.

One thing to keep in mind though is sometimes with the discounts that are out there is not much difference between the moderates and a standard room at the Animal Kingdom Lodge or Wilderness Lodge, and to me there is a big difference between them.

(My favorite WDW resort is Animal Kindgom Lodge,)

I agree with you. We had always been moderates guests with previous stays at POFQ and POR. We stayed at POR in the AB section in March 2005 the week after it reopened after a refurb. Really nice.

However, last August we took advantage of the free dining and stayed at AKL for a bit more than the price of a moderate, but AKL was SO much more than the moderates - the pool, the indoor corridors, the restaurants, the ambiance, just everything. Absolutely stunning place and a fabulous stay.

We stayed at Coronado Springs last year and fell in love with it. The pool at CSR is amazing! The newly reno'd rooms were very nice too!
