Cooking fav cake recipe

I have recently started decorating cakes, Just for fun. Well that means lots of cake to eat! Truthfully I am tired of the yellow box cake. LOL So what is your favorite cake recipe. (preferrably one that bakes so it is decorateable but if you have a fab recipe for any other cake that is great too! I love cakes of all kinds LMAO)

Basic pound cake - weigh the eggs and have equal quantities butter, sugar and flour, possibly a dash of milk to get the right dropping consistency. The WI has a good madeira cake recipe - not sure if its on their website but its in their "Secrets of the Women's Institute - cakes and biscuits" book, with quantities for different size and shaped tins.
