...Does anyone else sleep this much? I have always needed a lot of sleep but I would say I'm sleeping about 10 hours per night. I go to bed at about 8 and get up at 5:30 or 6:00. After dinner is cleaned up, dishes done, 7 year old ready for bed- I'm done!! My dh can literally get by with 4 hours per night.... I think he thinks I'm lazy. I just had a ton of blood work done, I'm not anemic, my thyroid is fine, the only thing is I have a lot of congestion in my nose and my doc is doing a complete CT study of my sinuses next week... maybe I'm not falling into a deep sleep or something. I just had to post because before he left for work he made a snide comment about my dd going to bed at 9 pm..."2 hours after YOU did.":(

Ten hours is awful lot of sleep for me. I'm not sure I've slept that long in my entire adulthood, unless I was sick.

Glad to hear you're getting it checked out. Maybe it's just the amount of sleep you need, but it's good to make sure.

When I have a bout of depression, I feel extremely fatigued and can barely keep my eyes open. Also, I've heard sleep apnea can cause a lot of fatigue.

I hope you can figure it out - it's no fun feeling like you're "running on empty".

I got about 3 hours sleep night before last and about 5 hours sleep last night. I wish I could be a 10 hour sleeper.:teeth:

What is it that he wants you to do instead of sleep. If you didn't need it, you wouldn't be so tired. How long have you been sleeping this much?

Maybe it's just the amount of sleep you need, everyone is different.

I need a ton of sleep too - usually at least 10 hours a night. Has this been a new thing for you in the past few months or so - or always? I tend to need more sleep in the winter and less in the summer. I really don't think there is any medical reason for needing lots of sleep, it's just the way I am.::yes::

Thats a lot of sleep for an adult. I don't think I have slept 10 hours a night since I was a teen and had Mono. My neighbor suffers from depression and sleeps long hours and is very tired. I usually get 6 hours a night and that is good. I could never go to bed that early, by the time I get home from work, get dinner ready, take my 4 year old daughter out to whatever activity is going on that day, come home and play with her, get her bathed and ready for bed its almost 10. Hope they can find an answer for you!

Are you pregnant?

Wishing everyone a "magical" day!

Well, you are smart to rule out potential physical causes(and preganacy is one of them), and your instinct about the sinus thing may be right. Do you snore? Because sometimes peole who snore have sleep apnea which means you are not getting a deep enough sleep.

If physical causes are eliminated, then perhaps there is an emotional cause? I know when I was unhappy with my job, I slept more and couldn't get out of bed for love or money!!! Once I changed that situation, the sleeping issue disappeared.

I would have to agree with DoeWDW...you may want to get checked out for depression...Take care!

I've always required tons of sleep. I don't think it's abnormal. Actually, I'm the type that could probably sleep even longer, but life doesn't let me.;)

I also enjoy sleeping. Everything about it. The nice warm blankets, the soft pillow, the wacky dreams.

If you've ruled out illness and depression, then just lay back and enjoy. You aren't the only one.:D

The kids are on vacation and I slept 10 hours last night too. I have always needed 8 to function 9 to be happy. People need different amounts, as someone mentioned, is this new for you?

I agree, have yourself checked for depression. I was the same way. Had all those same tests done and all came back fine. My doc asked me a few questions and I said...but I'm not sad. He said depression doesn;t mean you are neccessarily sad. He put me on meds....and I felt like a totally different person.

I need a lot of sleep, just the way that I am. I swear that a key to succes is being able to sleep less. Even as a teenager I went to bed by 9 or 10pm most weeknights. I really need 8 hrs a night and do best if I can get closer to 9. I now go to bed around 9 most nights and will sometimes but not always watch an hour of TV. Wake up around 5:30-6:00. I do the same on most weekends. if i am up later on a weekend I will sleep in but am almost always up by 7.

I'd also like to know if this is a new thing, or has been happening for a long time (like most of your life).

I agree with getting checked for depression or having a sleep study done. Also, are you taking any medications? Some of those could make you sleepy, even if it's one for which drowsiness isn't a common side effect. What about diet?

I'm another one who is sleepy all the time, but in my case we determined it was one part depression and one part medication. I've learned to just be sleepy and not get as much sleep as I would like. :(

Most adults don't get enough sleep and are sleep deprived. I need 8 hours, but don't always get it. When I don't, I'm usually dragging in the afternoon (I hate that feeling) and get really cranky.

It very well could be the WEATHER
I know Ive been tired alot, sleeping more
My usual is 9hrs - in at 9pm, up at 6am
but there have been nights Im in bed before that

I've always needed quite a bit of sleep... before I started working in December (I was a SAHM- and able to sleep until 7 or 7:30 when my kids got up)... I would go to bed later and get up later. Now I get up earlier and I need (or feel like I need) to go to bed earlier.

I take Allegra daily, as well as Advair, Singulair, Atrovent and Nasonex.

I do snore- very loudly I have been told.

Depression- maybe. Since someone said "being sad" isn't a requirement. Thanks for the feedback!
