Any recomendations out there for Father's Day? Our first day at Disney will be on Father's Day. I want to make an ADR for somewhere. DH will have just come home from Iraq, and we (me & DS8) want something special for him. However, we are not the real formal type. So someplace fun & lively would be great.

:thanks: Please give your husband a big THANKS from the Poohbeck family. I hope you enjoy your time at WDW with your family.

How about Whispering Canyon at the WL? It sounds like a lot of fun; we will be going for the 1st time in November.

If you would like characters, Chef Mickey's is fun too!

Will you be staying at the Shades? If so, both of these restaurants are easy to go to from there.

If he's a Star Wars fan, go to Disney Hollywood Studios for Star Wars weekend! We were there for our first day ever at WDW on Father's Day last year, and my DH was SO happy! We ate at the Sci Fi for dinner. He said it was the best Father's Day ever!!

No we are staying at Pop Century. My son loves the oversized theming. (sp?)
Have you tried Chef Mickey before? If so, how was it? This will be our fourth trip to Disney, but our first ADR. We've never even had a TS meal at Disney. Always CS. What is special about Whispering Canyons? Is it a themed restaurant?

We've been to Chef Mickey's for breakfast and it was a lot of fun! Great character interaction and the buffet was awesome! I would expect only the same at dinner.

As for Whisperng Canyon, from what I've read the waitstaff are hilarious. If you ask for ketchup, they'll bring you ten, and other silly antics...I've read more but just can't remember.

Check a look on the boards for both.

You should check out the Shades for one of your stays. My husband is in the airforce and we love the Shades. The rooms are big and the price is right!

Enjoy!

DizneeMom,

Does the Sci-Fi have any Star Wars events or characters? How is the seating. I read something about dining in cars. How many does a car fit? We're a family of only three. Do they put more than one family in a car?

Poohbeck,
I hope to stay at SoG one of these days. My DS8 just loves Pop. Maybe when he gets older we'll go to SoG. How do your children like it? SoG looks absolutely beautiful in the pictures.

Chipmunk89,
My boys who are now 9 and 11 have been to the Shades twice and they like it. It's the only resort they have stayed at in Disney, so they know no different. The price is right for us. I've priced out the POP for some of our trips and I always seem to pick popular times so th ePOP is more expensive than the Shades. We like SOG too because they are tax free, the restaurants are cheaper, they have an AAFES, the room is bigger, and the pool is shaped like Mickey's head. It's also nice that all families staying there have a direct connection to the military!

Anyway, I don't mean for this to go too far OT. Have fun picking a restaurant for your husband. We don't usually do alot of TS either, usually just for breakfast.

Have you ever done the HDDR? That is a blast!!!!! We have never laughed soooo hard!!!!!!!!!!

No we haven't tried HDDR. But I hear it's a real hoot!

Thanks for all the help!

:thanks:

The Sci Fi is set up like an old "outdoor" drive-in--huge screen with old "monster" movie clips, ads, etc. (Not scary--my 5 year old daughter loved them) There are even stars on the ceiling! Our car held 4-2 in the front and 2 in back. There might be some that would seat 3 across--not sure. Some cars had 3 seats--but there are also tables in the back. No Star Wars characters in the restaurant, but in the park that day there will be all kinds of characters, a special Star Wars parade--lots of great stuff! (You can see a menu for any of the restaurants here on the DIS or on allears dot net.

We went to Whispering Canyon Cafe, too--hilarious! If you're a fun-loving family, it's great! My son asked for a refill of water and got a HUGE jug! He "lost" his fork (we think the waitress swiped it), asked for another, and she brought in a 4 foot long one!! There were stick horse "races" for the kids, then all the husbands had to do a hilarious version of "I'm a little Teapot". . .I could go on, but let's just say that the food was terrific, and we laughed all through dinner! If you're at MK that day, ride the launch over to the Wilderness Lodge and back--nice relaxing ride!

So, I take it there can't be alot of interaction between the two rows.

It seems Whispering Canyons has the votes!:thumbsup2 I can't wait for DH or DS to ask for ketchup!:lmao:

Thanks again! :wave2:

By the way,

We LOVE the WCC in WL! It has a great atmosphere, as long as you go along with the antics. Most of the waiters that play the part, try to be as funny and sarcastic as possible. Some people do not like that too much, but we go along with the banter and have a great time. The food is pretty good as well.
Two years ago we did Fathers Day there with DH and FIL, and had a great time. The kids got to color paper "ties" that they Dad's had to wear! It was great!
Hope you guys enjoy it as much as we do!!

:goodvibes Thanks!

By the way, the funniest thing that happened at WCC was when my DH got a phone call (he's a pastor) from the youth pastor. Our server grabbed the phone and started saying "Don't you know it's rude to call during dinner? Well, since you're on the phone, you might as well tell everybody hello. Everybody, say hello!!" ---which was followed by the entire place shouting "Hello!" Needless to say, he said he'd call back!!!:lmao: :lmao:

My DH loves the Biergarten! Great entertainment and huge beers. It's a fun place for kids too!
