After watching my son fall asleep during dinner I let him sleep until 8:15am. By 8:45 we were in the lobby and catching the taxi I reserved to SeaWorld. We arrived right at 9am, and found out that the park had been open since 8:30am. Not a problem as I knew to make a beeline for Atlantis and Kraken. We got online for Atlantis first...beacuse frankly... looking at Kraken was truly scaring me to death.
The Atlantis ride is awesome. The theming and animitronics inside has to be seen to be believed. By far the best log flume ever. The change into the roller coaster was really cool. I think it was one of my favorite rides in Orlando.
Next was Kraken. OMG!!! Makes the hulk look like a kiddie ride. How tall is that thing anyway. I almost chickened out, but my son would not ride alone so I sucked it up. After waiting about 20 minutes I was on Kraken. The climb to the first drop goes on forever!!! I have a horrible fear of heights, so i shut my eyes about 3/4 of the way up. As a matter of fact I am embarrased to say that I kept my eyes closed for the entire ride. It did some pretty funky twists and turns, other than that I don't remember much. I do remember not wanting to ride it again.
With the two biggest attractions out of the way we set off for Shark Encounter. A great display of sharks, but you move on a moving conveyor which I wished had gone a bit slower. Made reservations to eat at Shark's Underwater Grill (see my dining reviews). Checked out almost all of the exhibits. We went to see the Shamu show. Not to be missed. It was hysterical watching people get drencehed in the soak zone seats. Being an Anheuser Busch Park they started the show with that commercial with the soldiers coming thru the airport and evryone clapping for them. I had not seen it before so there I am with tears streaming down my face and my son wondering what is wrong with me. I looked around and there were very few dry eyes. The announcer had all military personell stand up to a much deserved round of applause. Bravo SeaWorld!!! It is because of these brave people that I even get to enjoy a vacation. A very classy touch.
The skys started to thicken up after lunch. Looked like major thunderstorms heading in. Shows started to get cancelled out of safety for performers and animals so at 3pm we decided to head back to the hotel.
Overall I enjoyed Seaworld though son reported it was alot of walkking. It didn't help that his only pair of sneakers (why did i only pack one pair?) were still saturated from Jurrasic Park and he was wearing sandals, which had started to reek havoc on his feet. The landscaping at the park is a sight to behold. Most of my pictures are of various locations lush with foliage. We just don't have stuff like that in NJ!!! definitely worth a visit. Go early if you want to do the rides. Not sure you would need the whole day, but then again we might have stayed longer if the shows were not cancelled. Also as you exit they will give you a free ticket to come back the next day. We deabated, but we still have unfinished business at Universal/IOA.

Enjoyed your report. Very interested in the Kraken because it was just being built when we last visited Orlando. I am going to be brave enough to try it, I think. :)

I enjoyed reading all your reports. Too bad the shows at Sea World were cancelled. They're pretty good! I LOVE Kraken. Unlike you, I ran right back to ride it again!

Great trip report Mark! I read your dining reviews as well. Thanks!
We are going to Seaworld for the first time on our next trip. Can't wait for the big roller coaster! That is great you sucked it up and went on the big coasters with your son :cool1:

I read all your reports (one more to come?) and your dining review. I very much enjoyed reading them! It sounds like you and your son shared some wonderful times together. :goodvibes I like all the details you included.

You stated room service is expensive at the RPR. If in the future you do decide to go for it they have a burger that is only on the room service menu (or used to be anyway) it is smothered in beef short ribs and is the best burger i have ever had. I know your son is the burger connoisseur! He would love it! They also had a very cool kids (or adult) dessert but for the life of me I cant remember exactly what it was. It had cookies and a chocolate card and ice cream with sprinkles...what I do remember was the presentation was FUN! My kids loved it.

So...when is the next trip? :cool1:

Thanks again for the great read!

Hi Jessica.

DS is already asking when we are going back. We normally do a winter trip every other year, but we had such a great time we are thinking maybe we could do a short trip next February. DS has been bragging to DD how much fun we had. DD16 was unable to go on this trip, as my spring break ( i am a teacher) was different from hers and she didn't want to be out of school for that long. My wife has an income tax business, so she was out also. The trip ended up being very special as I have never done anything alone with just my son.
I did miss having the whole family there and even DS said he missed having his big sister there( that would be a first) but was sure he could get over it. We also feel we could do a short trip now that DS and I have scouted things out..and after our great experience with FOTL, you really can do alot of stuff in a short amount of time.
I am also still coming down from vacation...was depressed for a few days, but we got our pictures back a few days ago and are having fun showing them off.
UNIVERSAL ROCKS!!

I get the same depression after returning. It is short lived though since shortly after that I start my planning for the next one!

I think a family February trip sounds great, I bet the rest of the family would love it as much as your son and you did. Your son will have fun showing his sister the ropes! LOL

Kraken was my first rollercoaster and I rode it as a Christmas present to my kids. The only way I could do it was the 1st thing after they opened we sprinted to the ride and up all the stairs and into the front seat. It was so cold that day that the park was covering that lush landscaping you spoke of because they thought it would freeze. I managed to keep my eyes open but felt the whole ride like I was going to be drilled into the ground. The ride photo shows how I had my legs extended straight out to cushion the blow!
Did you get to see Clyde and Seymore? Wild Artic? DS16 won a stuffed animal, shooting hoops, that was so big we had trouble fitting it in the van.
Your kids are the same ages but opposite from mine in that my daughter is youngest. The missing the sister thing is only momentary. If they were together, like mine, they would be fighting. Its good to do the Father/Son and the Father/ Daughter trips. I think its cool that you let him call the shots.
Where we at Day 4?...
