Hello All! We just got back from our Father/Son 16th Birthday AKV Jambo House Trip! We had a good time and I have much to share but I just wanted to get started with a nice photo we took at DTD. Its a little fuzzy but it is just a point in shoot camera.

I will add to this report later but just wanted to get started. We are totally exhausted because our late flight was delayed because someone on the flight before us passed away during the flight. I guess it was a very dramatic flight and we all felt so badly. Needless to say we are tired as my son had to get off to school early this morning and I am back in the office with a full week ahead of me.

Our week together was mostly good and a little bad. AKV was nice.... I will add to that later.

See ya real soon!!!

Wow, I can't say I've ever had the experience of wating for a flight because someone passed away. How dreadful!

Looking forward to your trip report and pictures!

Beautiful pic. Can't wait to hear more!!

Sounds like a dramatic end! Can't wait to hear "the rest of the story".

Wow, what a sad way to end a trip. :sad1:

On a happier note, the sky is beautiful in that picture. Can't wait to hear the rest.

Wow...how sad someone passed away during a flight. But that's a very beautiful shot even being a little fuzzy. Looking forward to the rest of your story.

We landed in Orlando at about 10:30 on November 10th and the weather was beautiful. All week the weather was beautiful. It was in the high 70's and low 80's for our entire 5 night stay. The air was as dry as I have ever experienced in Florida. It was strange that even in the low 80's I felt cold at times. But it was nice to walk around and not get hot. It was a little cold for the pool but we spent most of or time in the hot tub anyways. All this is being written while I work at keeping warm west of Cleveland, OH next to my large space heater and crackling wood burning fireplace.

After our arrival we went down to catch the Magical Express and had to wait a little bit for our bus but it was not bad at all. From the Magical Express to all the bus transportation we were very pleased. I am amazed at how Disney orchestrates all their transportation. They really do an excellent job.

From the airport we were transported to AKV Jambo and although it is a beautiful resort it was not for me. I enjoyed my stay greatly but do not plan on returning. I guess the theming wasn't for me. The music especially was not my taste. When you walk in you hear drum music. When your in the lobby area you hear drum music. When you eat you hear drum music. I think they could soften then music a little. The worst music was in the downstairs quick service restaurant. I could not wait to fill my mug and get out of there.

Speaking of my mug... wow... I love being able to fill it to my hearts content with whatever I like. You do get spoiled after a while with those mugs. Thus my first picture showing my morning tradition for this trip which consisted of my mug of coffee/mocha, my donut, and newspaper. I would go to read it everyday while my teenage son slept in. That was a real treat.

Notice the clip on my mug. That is a great thing to have. Number one it helps you keep track of your own mug in the sea of identical mugs. Number two you can clip your mug on a belt loop or something when it is empty and carry it around. It is so lightweight that you don't even feel it when you carry it around.

Here is a strange photo of the savannah giving evidence of a shameful but funny act of pig vandalism. Sorry that I don't know the proper names for the pigs. Anyways whenever the pigs were around their was excitement. The other animal were smart enough to clear out when the pigs were around because they knew they were up to trouble and they did not want to get involved. My first picture will show you how shameful those little pigs were. If you will notice around the edge of the savannah you will find all these little dirt mounds. There is a lot of greenery in the savannah but not always on the edges. How did this happen...... answer...... the pigs. During my observations I noticed that in some areas along the border there were sort grassy plants but mostly mud and dirt mounds. Then I saw the pigs digging around the plants with their snouts and saw one of the pigs uproot a plant and roll it all over kingdom come in triumph. I quickly realized that the pigs made great sport of digging out the plant that the landscapers used to edge the savannah and left a trail of mounded dirt in their wake. What shameful little pigs.

Hey Neighbor!! Just a bit south of you in Cuyahoga Falls! Can't wait to read more! We were just there in Oct and had a great trip!

Will be staying at Jambo in January so cant wait to hear more!!

what a great trip report! love the pic of DTD. How funny about the pigs and their antics. So sorry to hear about the flight before yours with the passenger dying. so sad and traumatic for all involved. Can't wait to hear more.

Thanks for sharing, and I agree with your comments about AKL. I love visiting as it is such a fantastic themed resort, but I can only take it for short periods of time. Too dark for me.

Also sadly I feel that way about the BWV in that it is too frantic for me. I have tried both a couple of times and just can't seem to relax.

Glad Disney allows us to have choices. :thumbsup2

We will be staying at BWV in April so it will be interesting to see how like that resort. I think my wife and I will enjoy going out at night with the kids close by in the room. They are now teens so we can enjoy these things more often.

Thanks for writing! Aren't people different though? The music is one thing I love most about AKL!

I agree with you on the Music and also the Dark Theme. I too can only take small amounts of it at a time. My wife loves her clip on her mug as well. We try to take as little as possible when traveling around. I don't carry one. Looking forward to the rest of your TR :thumbsup2

Here are some pics of the Savannah from our room on the Zebra Trail and some from public viewing spots. We were by a watering hole which was a good place to be to see the animals. We didn't spend as much time as we thought looking at the animals. I thought I would spend more time sitting on the balcony watching the animals but it just didn't happen. Our balcony was mostly shaded and the weather was a little cool so that was a bit of a factor. If we had more sun we probably would have used the balcony more.

Check out the horns on the cattle. They were so big he couldn't pick up his head.
