Father/Son AKV DVC Trip Report 11/10 - 11/15 with Photos

Well this trip we tried something different and it worked out fine. We bought a one day pass with the water park and more option. The great thing about this is that with a one day pass we got 2 days off additional options. We were only there 5 nights so it gave us some downtime which was nice.

For our one day at the park we when to HS which was ok. To me it does not have the endearing and enduring charm of MK and not nearly as many attractions. We picked up out FP for TSM of course and those went really fast. We had a great time on the ride and I got the high score for the hour which was no big deal because we were only about 10 minutes into the hour... lol. That is just a great ride and I never get tired of that. We also went on TT twice which is always so much fun. This time I did it without hanging on for dear life and enjoyed feeling my body float of the seat. My son enjoyed looking up during the fall to see the mechanics of the ride and wanted me to do the same but I declined. I didn't want a stiff neck for the rest of the trip. We also went on RRC which was ok. It used to seem better to us but we now live 30 minutes from Cedar Point and their roller coasters blow the Disney coaster away. There are a couple coasters at Cedar Point where the people actually cheer loudly after the ride is over. I know thats not Disney's forte but it still took the edge of RRC for us.

Afterwards we when to the Indiana Jones show which is fun. We tried to guess who the stunt man plant was and I got it right. Just look for the fit dude. Then we went home to hit the hot tub after lunch at the ABC Comm which was fine.

We returned at night at rode the Great Movie Ride and then off to the Grand Finale at American Idol. I am not an Idol fan but I really liked the show. They do a great job with that. After we had dinner at the Sci-Fi. My son got a burger which was good and I got some Macaroni and Ground Turkey slop which stunk to high heaven. I can't eat much so I order off the kids menu sometimes and I was not impressed. The last time we went there we ate at Prime Time Cafe and we were not impressed either. The prices are high the food is bad. I have decided that I will not spend money on sit down anymore but just get fast service. Maybe in the future that will change.

We have gotten very good at packing our own easy food that tastes way better than what we have experienced at the parks. I made BBQ Beef and Butternut Squash and some other things and froze them. I packed them in our luggage and when we arrived that were still cold. With stuff like that and some ingenuity you can eat better and save money. I love having kitchen facilities.

After dinner we caught the tale end of the Osborne Lights and loved it. They are amazing.

I will talk about more later.

See Ya Real Soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:goodvibesEnjoying your TR!

:rotfl:At the music!! I love it, it is really immersive but my friend did not!! You hear it at the bus stop also!

By the end of the trip I was teasing her that I was going to buy the soundtrack for her as a Christmas gift!:lmao:

Really enjoying your photos:wizard:

The natives are restless!

For one of our park pass option we went to Disney Quest which in my opinion needs some help. I still like the pirate game a lot and the make your own roller coster game but for the most part my son has more advanced games in his bedroom. It must have been 5 years since our last visit and they still had many of the same games. It was a real disappointment. If they could take some the current hot games out there like Call of Duty or Madden Football and make some experiences based on those the kids would like it better and so would the adults. Disney Quest has so much potential but in its current state has very little magic. Disney needs to step up their game here especially since the ticket price is so high for this attraction. It is just not worth the cost, not even close.

Thanks for the TR update. That cow? have huge horns. Keep it coming!! Thanks

Love the pic of you two. Where is this at? Would like to do a similar photo.

On Sunday of our trip we went to Blizzard Beach. We arrived shortly after 10:00 am and went right to the chair lift to ride Summit Plummet. My son didn't think his 44 year old dad would go on the slide but I went straight up and slide right down. The wild thing about this slide is that it is so steep that you can't see where you are going. You just lay down, fold your arms and legs, and pray real hard. My son like the ride that so much that he rode it 40 times that day. He said that it is a park record. I am not sure about that but I just smiled and congratulated him. I was satisfied after 1 ride so I sadly spent the rest of the day exploring the rest of the park by myself. I don't think he understood that his goal separated us for the whole day. I didn't want to burst his bubble so I didn't say anything even though I didn't enjoy not having anyone to share my day.

I am worried about this same thing... we are doing an adults only trip at BCV in April. DW is talking about sleeping in and relaxing and I really want to explore Epcot for F&G. Not wanting to be seperated that much, but I also don't want to sleep til 9am, then get ready for an hour and a half and hit the parks at noon...

Glad you tried Summit, I haven't had the courage to yet!

I love to see a teenage son happily take a trip to WDW with his Dad for his 16th birthday! So awesome, great pics.

I have always stayed the distance even though it was not my thing but teenagers love these challenges.
I remember going to a theme park at Lake George In New York state and my son a similar age at that time rode the one rollercoaster all day.
He did not even have to get off after the first six rides .
Stayed with him to the finish,me being a big kid and all:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

We did have one bad day but I hope it taught him a lesson. On one of our free days I planned on taking him to the Contemporary Resort to rent a Sea Racer. Even on the bus ride over to MK I had a gut feeling that we were going to have a problem. As a parent you just know when your kids are up to something. When we got to the marina and my son saw the boats he refused to go along and rent one. He thought they were for small children but I knew it was a ploy for me to rent jet skis. I told him that the rental cost for jet skis was more than I was willing to pay but he wouldn't listen. I really bothered me that other families were out on the lake having fun but somehow my son was not willing to cooperate, especially since this trip was for him and I to spend time together and this would have been so much fun. So at that point, with much restrained steam under my collar, I told him that the best thing for us was to go our separate ways and that I would see him tonight. We separated and shortly after that he texted me with the word, "huh?". I think he thought I was bluffing but I was not. I texted him back that I would see him tonight. I don't think that kids think we can have fun without them and that somehow our worlds revolve around them. I believe that is why they think they can get away with things with their family that they could never get away with elsewhere.

So after a bit of time to unwind, think, and vent I took a boat over to Wilderness Lodge to check things out. I had always wanted to see the resort and really enjoyed myself. The gift shop was really nice and I even got to see the gyser erupt. I also hung out in the lobby and just soaked everything in. I have to admit that I liked is so much more than Jambo House.

Then I rented a bike and rode over to the Stables and Fort Wilderness. I saw some deer an other wildlife up close on the bike path. They were so close you could almost touch them. The bike ride was a great way to enjoy myself and get over my troubles.

After that was all over I really felt good and headed for home where I was greeted by my son with an apology. I am not one of those persons who always has to be right but I had to teach my son that selfishness does not work with me and that he must not take his family for granted.

So true! Some friends were going to WDW with us and without our children. Their son, who was about 19 and living on his own at college, asked incredulously how it was that we could go to WDW by ourselves? He couldn't believe that we could have any fun without him or our daughters. We had a great time.

I think you're a great dad to take your son on this trip. He's going to remember the time you spent together and that you were willing to take him on this trip for the rest of his life. It's all about the time.
