My daughter (7) and I stayed at the POP Century for the first time from 9/18 thru 9/24. We absolutely loved this resort!
I requested a room in the 80s building, not facing the pool. We ended up with room #9425, which is on the 4th floor and facing the parking lot. The building is so close to the bus stops that you can see them from the room. While not everyone would like a parking lot view, the proximity to the bus stops sure did come in handy after a long day in the parks.
We were right next to the laptop pool which we really enjoyed! We pool hopped one evening and thought that the laptop pool was a little warmer than the hippy dippy pool. Maybe because the laptop pool was less crowded?
The building we were in was decorated with Pac-Man on it, gobbling those yellow dots and chasing the ghosts. The staircases were enclosed by giant lighted Rubik's Cubes. A giant walkman was located beside the laptop pool.
You could see the Epcot fireworks from the end of our building at night.
The rooms themselves were small. We had two double beds, a table and chairs and a TV armoire (big TV though...27" I think). There was an additional sink/mirror outside of the bathroom and the bathroom itself contained a pretty nice shower with one of those shower heads that provide 6-7 different patterns. It was perfect for the two of us, but I could see where it would be a little cramped for four adults. One thing I did not like was how the door opened up right into the bed. You couldn't really enter the room until the door was shut, meaning the first person through has to almost crawl across the bed to get in.
The temperature stayed at a nice and chilly 68 degrees the entire time. While it looked like the thermostat had a motion sensor on it, we never heard the AC quit running.
The toilet flushes are a little loud, but we only heard the occassional flush from the room next to us. Other than that, the only sounds we heard were when kids would go running past the door outside. I had no complaints here.
The bus service was exceptional!! We never waited more than 10 min the whole trip, with most of our waits from 0-5 minutes. Two times at Epcot, we were loading two busses at once where some resorts were still waiting on their first bus to arrive.
Check in was very easy & we were very pleased with the gift shop and food court. They do need to improve their package pick up process, however. Each night there would be a small rush of people bombarding one of the desks to pick up their packages and there seemed to be no real system in place to handle the people. The CM would take the green pick up receipts, disappear for 5 min, reappear with a bunch of packages and then begin randomly calling out names. Just because you were first in line to show your receipt did not mean you were first to pick up your package, which I thought was a little unfair.
All in all, we will definitely be returning to this resort! I highly recommend it for the kids, as they will get a kick out of the larger than life yo-yo's & foosball men and other decorations around the buildings. Even thought the rooms are a little small, how long do you actually spend in them anyway? We were not in our room except to sleep at night.
We can't wait to go back!
