Father claims he threw baby from bridge

What is wrong with people?? :sad1: That poor baby. I hope that man gets the book thrown at him.

I'm sure they run 24/7 but they are most likely not recorded 24/7, if at all.

Some places record only when there is movement. That sounds like a resource that shouldn't be passed up to me.

OMG!!! :sad1:

I was hoping that he stashed the baby with some other people and was just saying he did it. The nightmare was real and it looks like he really did it. Someone needs to tie him to a cinder block and throw him off a bridge.

That poor baby and her grandma that fought to try to keep her safe.

Just to update the story. They think they found the baby's body.

Body Near NJ River May Be Baby Thrown from Bridge

A body found Saturday near the Raritan River may be that of a 3-month-old girl whose father confessed to throwing her off a highway bridge earlier this year, state police said.

Clothing and wrappings in which the child were found are consistent with the descriptions of 3-month-old Zara Malani-Lin Abdur-Raheem, state police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Jones said. But he said the infant is considered unidentified until DNA testing or other means can prove her identity.

Prosecutors say the infant's father, Shamsid-Din Abdur-Raheem of Galloway Township, killed her several hours after abducting her from her grandmother's apartment in East Orange. He has pleaded not guilty to murder charges filed in Middlesex County, where the bridge is located, and several related charges in Essex County, where police say the kidnapping occurred.

Abdur-Raheem is being represented by the state public defender's office. Tom Rosenthal, an office spokesman, declined to comment Saturday afternoon on the discovery of a body.

The baby's mother, Venetta Benjamin, had been seeking a restraining order against Abdur-Raheem on the day the abduction occurred, he lawyer said. Jones said she has been notified of the discovery, but he declined to comment further.

A phone message left Saturday afternoon for Benjamin was not immediately returned.

Authorities have said Abdur-Raheem abducted the baby from her grandmother's apartment around 4 p.m. on Feb. 16, choking and assaulting the woman and then striking her with his van as she attempted to block his escape.

Abdur-Raheem later parked his vehicle on the southbound shoulder of the highway over the Driscoll Bridge -- which spans the Raritan River between Sayreville and Woodbridge -- and threw or dropped the baby from the front passenger window, authorities said.

Jones said the body was found just after 8:30 a.m. Saturday by people who were walking along the southern bank of the Raritan River in Sayreville. The baby was found just east of the Route 35 bridge, which is also known as the Victory Bridge, not far from where the baby is said to have been thrown.

An autopsy will be performed at the North Regional Office in Newark, Jones said, adding that DNA samples will be processed at the state police lab as soon as possible.

Did they get the DNA back? Does anyone know?

The monster will get his comeuppance...first at the hands of the inmates in prison and then when he finally dies and goes straight to hell.

A couple of years ago there was a sicko who threw his 4 children off a bridge in Alabama. As much as I want to have faith in a higher power I just don't understand when tragic things happen to children.

I live about 20 miles form that bridge. The whole situation was horrific. It shook all of us. It took weeks to find those babies. Truly awful. I pray that this guy hasn't done the same thing, but it looks like he has.

Why would anyone do that to a 3 month old! :confused3
Hope he rots in jail!

I heard this update on the news yesderday. :sad1: that poor baby's body was found 2 MONTHS later. :sad1: :sad2: How sad for the family to have been wondering that long.

I hope Bubba meets this guy in jail and makes him a special "friend."

"battered the baby’s grandmother, punching her in the face and putting her in a chokehold. In a desperate attempt to stop Abdur-Raheem, police said, she chased him as he fled the apartment with Zara and blocked his car, described as a dark-colored minivan, with her body. She was then struck and knocked to the ground, suffering minor injuries."

Any updates. What kind of person would do this to a baby. I feel so sorry for the grandmother trying to stop him. This is horrible.

That made me cry. That poor woman. My heart goes out to her. What a monster he is! :sad1: :sad1: If only the grandmother had help that day.

I can't believe he "may" only get 30 years to life. 30 years...he's what...early 20s? He'd only be in his 50s if he got out then!!! He needs to sit there and ROT in solitary confinement. I think a proper punishment would be tying a rope onto his ankle and tossing him off the bridge. He can swim, or hold onto the rope...but there he should stay until he drowns.

You guys are waay nicer than me. Why waste my money freakin feeding this cretin. Is this a pretty big bridge? Tie his butt up (so he can't swim) and throw his sorry carcass over.

This is a picture of the Driscoll Bridge when they were doing construction the last few years. That's the new section of Route 9 on the right. Forget throwing him over, that would be too nice. I think he needs to meet some of the nice inmates at one of our state prisons. I hear Rahway is nice ;)

Rahway is quite nice for these type of individuals and he will probably end up there if convicted. That's where they tend to put the worst offenders. I know someone that I went to high school with that ended up there. Let's just say that last I heard he needed numerous surgeries to reconstruct certain areas. I'll leave it at that and hope I don't get points.
